Tommy Black Responds To Reports Of Controversial Quote On Scott Weiland’s Death

Wildabouts bassist Tommy Black has contacted Alternative Nation to deny that he was ‘not surprised’ by Scott Weiland’s death. Black told us, “That was not my quote about Scott. He was my closest friend and I would never ever say anything like that.”

The quote came from a Bloomington police report given to FOX 9. According to FOX 9, on Scott Weiland’s tour bus where his body was found, investigators found marijuana, prescription drugs, and cocaine. Band and crew told police Weiland had been drinking vodka and tequila quite heavily, was taking the heroin-blocker Suboxone, and prescriptions. They also said he used cocaine as recently as a week before his death, and took the drug, molly, a day or two before his death.

In a statement, an investigator wrote to FOX 9, “All of the band members and its entourage were visibly upset” but longtime Weiland friend and band member Thomas Black, said he was also “not surprised that Weiland had died.”

Black was arrested for suspected cocaine possession, but police couldn’t prove the drugs were his due to the amount of people on the bus, so charges were dropped against him.

BRET. It’s all bullshit. Seriously Bret, no jokes or sarcasm. Honest appeal time. It’s time to stop reporting on Scott. He’s gone and everything in the aftermath of his passing is a circus and it’s out of control. It does not matter what Tommy said to anyone about anything. In fact if you’re not a part of the solution, you’re a part of the problem. It’s over. OVER. Time to focus on Scott’s life, his music and what music could be available to us in the future to remember him and cherish his legacy. What matters is the music. The ‘he said, she said’ and the drama and the gossip and all that is not what your site should be about. Leave all this gossip shit to TMZ. Let Scott rest. Time to let it go.

    • Joe Howard

      amazing! perfect! thank you!!!

    • Alternative Nation

It’s my job to report about Scott Weiland, and has been since 2009. We focus on 90’s style alternative rock here, and Scott is one of the legends. The ‘circus’ around Scott’s death is sadly part of the story, and for me to ignore it would be dishonest to my readers and painting a picture of Scott that is not true. I post more tributes than anyone focusing on the music, and will continue to for years to come after the ugliness dies down, but this stuff is news unfortunately.

      • Chris Cornell’s Mustache

bret, the problem is that you are not reporting on content. you reported on his death and now what you are reporting on is not his death. it’s gossip, and alleged stories and unimportant crap that gets online. you stopped reporting on his death on december 4. he died once. The circus may have been there before you came along but you are fostering the lunacy of it and inspiring hatred from the commenters. read the comments in the other thread, it’s fucking bloody embarrassing to see the level of hatred from my peers who like the same music I do. Gossip and assumptions have led people to say horrible things about tommy black when nobody even knows the guy, and has nothing to prove. scott took drugs, scott died. scott’s bloody fault. in the process, the legitimacy of this site is tarnished you’re tmz-nation.net.

Scott was my idol. With that being said, I don’t know if I necessarily believe all of the negativity around Tommy Black. Take this for what it is, but if you were at Bottlerock 2015, you experienced this:
Scott walked up to the “celebrity culinary stage,” with Tommy Black. The guy looked so frail and was so quiet. Tommy Black seemed COMPLETELY NORMAL. My stepdad who hasn’t seen scott since he was fronting STP in the 90s was stunned and thought the guy was on hard drugs, which I guess had become common. I had previously seen Scott in March in Boston, the infamous “let’s suck a dick!” concert that got him negative publicity, I’m actually friends with the guy Scott said that to. He didn’t talk much then either, but Tommy was active and talked with EVERYBODY even those who didn’t pay for VIP passes and seemed like a legit good dude. This seems to be common with all of the shows the Wildabouts had been playing.
Anyways, during the culinary event with Scott and Tommy, Tommy was the same guy who I had previously seen. Was very talkative, laughed, smiled, and seemed did most of the talking, such as mentioning they booked a European tour (that was later cancelled) that Scott could not.
Scott couldn’t even cut the pig that they were making. he was frail, and his hand was LITERALLY shaking using a sharp chef’s knife which you or I could slice right through with ease. He was so weak it was sad… truly sad.. A guy from the side grabbed Tommy a beer and offered one to Scott. He insisted, and in front of the ENTIRE crowd, Tommy was the one to say “no, no, he’s fine, he doesn’t need one.” People gasped, it seemed like a legit embarrassing moment. I wouldn’t lie about this, and anybody who was at Bottlerock can second this.
What I’m getting at is that I study abuse and abnormality, and based on personal experience of individuals I’ve worked with Tommy was not an addict. Things could have changed, yes, but to call him the enabler is harsh in my opinion. He wasn’t enabling Scott all those years with STP was he? Scott was is own enabler and those who believe they don’t have a problem will never see the problem we all saw. He claimed he hadn’t touched hard drugs in some 13 years, yet he died in part from them.. yet Tommy Black is the enabler? I don’t know, maybe he is.
Scott is gone, it’s horrible.. I won’t lie I shed tears. BUT it seems all too easy to blame Tommy based on hearsay. We don’t know the truth. If Tommy black tried to come forward, EVERYBODY would bash him NO MATTER what he said, so why should he anyways? I would assume that’s his mindset. It’s common for somebody grieving to not want to do anything or to be silent on the matter.
I’m not siding with anybody, but I just think everybody should look at both sides.
There is too much drama going on right now, and it’s truly sad. It should be left alone.
I hope this is the last Scott Weiland’s Death article on this site..

    • Chris Cornell’s Mustache

At the end of the day, it’s not Tommy’s fault or his doing that Scott was an addict who struggled and couldn’t win. We’ve all seen that Scott’s use goes back to the beginning of his career and he went to rehab 13 or 20 times and it didn’t work. Worked with Duff and Duff’s Sensei in a house on top of a mountain and that didn’t work. And then VR didn’t want to work with him because he fell off. And STP didn’t want to work with him because Scott fell off. So how is it Tommy’s fault? Like, seriously. Every addict knows that drink or that drug could kill them. They know that it will be a mess. Scott was not helpless. He knew what he was doing. I mean, seriously!

      • Alternative Nation

It’s not Tommy’s fault. Regardless of what they were doing, Scott was a grown man and if he wanted to quit, he could have done it. I even said that in my e-mail to Tommy. I’m not trying to blame Scott’s death on Tommy with these articles. If you read the story, Tommy himself was responding to what a POLICE OFFICER said.

        • Chris Cornell’s Mustache

why did you feel the need to all caps ‘police officer’. think about this. who told you tommy said it? did tommy? no. did the police report? no. you are not showing a police report. what you are reporting is – according to fox 9 in indiiana. in this context – it is not what you believe – it’s what you can prove – do you have the police report? please show it to me.

          • Alternative Nation

The police officer told FOX 9. Go call up the FOX 9 reporter if you have a problem, or the Bloomington police department, not me. Also, if I got the exact police report and posted it (if I wanted to I could call the police department), you would say I was digging too deep and should leave it alone.

          • Chris Cornell’s Mustache

see? that’s it. you don’t have proof. you have third hand. how can you assume what i am going to say? presumptuous don’t you think? i am against the gossip. i am asking for facts. what is the police officer’s name? nobody knows. it’s all bullshit. come on bret, you went to college.

          • Alternative Nation

It isn’t bullshit. I’m actually going to acquire the full police report. It may take a week or two but the department said they’d mail it to me.

Also are you suggesting Fox 9 lied about the police report? Why would they do that?

    • Alternative Nation

Chris, you weren’t there behind the scenes, and neither was I. I met Tommy and Scott too, I spent 40 minutes with them. Tommy was nice to me, but I do not know the guy or his lifestyle, and neither do you. I reported what I was told by two very reliable sources who were there, worked within the Wildabouts organization, and even had photographic proof of some stories (that I will keep to myself). Whenever Tommy is ready, if he ever is, he can share his side of the story as well.

      • Chris Cornell’s Mustache

a man who does drugs is a recreational user before he is an addict. and it’s none of our business. tommy doing or not doing drugs has no bearing on anything at all.

        • Alternative Nation

It became our business when Scott died and Tommy was arrested for suspected coke possession. If you don’t want to read these articles, don’t read them, on this site or the many others that posted about the police report today. We do plenty of positive Scott tribute stories, and I’m posting plenty of vintage photos on his social media.

        • Martha Bartha

I abused drugs but was never addicted!

You need to control the drugs! Don’t let the drugs control you.

  • Anita Justus

He is in no way responsible for any of these horrible events. He lost two band mates and close friends this year. He deserves some peace and quiet and time to grieve out of the all seeing eyes of the media and some posters with no respect posting on your other articles. Peace be with you Tommy

    • Felonious Punk

“He lost two band mates and close friends this year.”

Both to drugs. Both of which he was around daily and could have helped. Both to drugs Tommy was arrested for the night Scott died, too. Some friend.

      • Chris Cornell’s Mustache

how is it tommy blacks fault that guys do drugs? could have helped? why is everyone an interventionist? people are recreational users before addicts. lots of musicians do drugs. this is interesting. would you say the same thing about mike starr and layne staley? the last day layne was alive, mike was in his condo and they were doing drugs together. next day layne died. fuck layne because he didnt help mike and fuck mike because he didnt help layne? people stop drugs and alcohol when they want to get clean. period. long list of those people. jerry cantrell – he’s another enabler because while he was snorting tons of coke he was enabling sean to be a drunk and sean was an enabler who could have helped jerry stop snorting tons of coke. some friends.

        • Felonious Punk

Agreed. This was yesterday’s news. Today is a new day. I doubt anyone even cares anymore.

          • Chris Cornell’s Mustache

yeah sure I get that. I was looking for your logic.

          • Felonious Punk

There’s no logic here today. Do as you got to; go your own way.

  • http://Boom.com Boom

You all be the childish fucks. The Weiland did the drugs. He be dead. Move the fuck along. Who gives fucks what no name Tommy Black say or no say. He be the famous now because the Weiland did the overdose and did the dying. Here’s tip from Boom. The Weiland did the drugs and always did the drugs and now he be dead. Move on to next story and latest music report to do botching about like the childish bitches. Listen to the music and shut traps.

    Boom out!!

Boom only make comment due to fact that the humans be the fucking useless cunts and bitch bitch bitch.

    • Chris Cornell’s Mustache

your mother’s cunt smells like my dog’s asshole. before my dog fucked her.

  • Felonious Punk

Hahaha I see the news article about that fake-ass James Treux guy who claimed to know Tommy got taken down completely. That was the one where we destroyed that creepy-ass pervert Joe Howard in the comments section. Then he whined like a little bitch for the comments to be deleted so his humiliation wouldn’t be available for the entire world to see.

    Fuck Joe Howard!

    • UnderOver

Thank god. That James Trux guy may literally be the worst person on Earth. Trump would have my vote if he threw that guy on the other side of a wall. Any wall.

    • Joe Howard

For the entire world to see, lol easy there bro? You have no idea who I am. You have no idea what you are talking about so your comments cheapen this site. I did a podcast responding to an article from Scott’s ex. Never thought it would make it on here. I discussed a talk we had at a lunch. that is all. You must be good friends with Brett because it is amazing to me and others that your comments stay up. A guy that hides behind a fake chat name saying fuck Joe Howard? You must be a real badass.

      • Felonious Punk

Well look who’s back! It’s the creepy pervert who likes to make questionable remarks about pre-teen girls.

For a guy who hates this place, you just can’t help coming back, can you? Just gotta know what a bunch of people you claim don’t matter have to say about you and your buddy Tommy Black, right? Oh the lolz

I’d say you’re more in the loop with Brett than I am at this point, Joe: I wasn’t the one who was crying to him like a bitch to have a bunch of posts deleted, now was I?

My comments cheapen the site? You think people come here to read the comments? I’ll admit that site traffic was inevitably bolstered when me and Jimmy and Billy were feeding you your own ass the other day — you know, before you begged Brett to delete a bunch of stuff — but any other day? People come here to read the articles, have their say and move on. Just like most internet sites out there.

For a guy who claims not to care what a bunch of people hiding behind fake chat names think, you sure seem to care what we think..

      • Felonious Punk

Also, in tandem with being a badass and not knowing who you are, I’d say any guy who needs to use the photo below as his Facebook picture to announce he’s a badass shouldn’t be accusing others on the internet of being a badass…

  • Shane99

When Jeremy died from a mixture of numerous drugs, did people blame Scott?

    No, because Scott’s our idol.

When Scott died, people blame Tommy…because Scott’s our idol.

  • Martha Bartha

I expected his death much sooner!

  • Ryan

It’s not Tommy’s fault. He did play a part in it. Let’s be honest he was a “yes” man just happy to have a job playing music. He would get the drugs for Scott and do them with him. Anybody who thinks differently is foolish. Why did Scott love being solo a huge part due to the fact he could get high and nobody would ask why.

  • Victor Charlie

Scott Weiland was a very talented, highly intelligent man.
Scott, very sadly, was also an addict.
Addicts, historically, do one of two things.
They either quit .. or they die.
Everything and everyone else around them is just window dressing

  • Alternative Nation

To Felonious Punk and Joe Howard,

I’d like it if you guys avoided each other. Joe, if you don’t want loyal commenters like Punk going after you, just avoid making comments that question this site’s credibility like you did recently. Also Punk, the insults don’t need to get that personal. So to Punk, if Joe makes a comment that insults the site/our reporting on Scott, let me know, and I’ll delete it. The same goes to you Joe, I don’t have time to read through all of the comments on every article, so I’d appreciate it if you guys could find a way to avoid each other on here. Thanks.
