Mars Volta, Red Hot Chili Peppers Supergroup Antemasque Announces Summer Tour Dates

Antemasque, the supergroup featuring former members of The Mars Volta and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, have announced their summer tour dates. Following the July 15 release of the band’s debut album, Antemasque will embark on a tour with dates in Texas, Arizona, California, and Japan.

The band’s personnel includes ex-Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López, vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, and drummer Dave Elitch, as well as Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.

Flea recently posted a video of the Chili Peppers’ return to the studio, so it’s currently unclear whether or not Flea will be joining Antemasque on tour or if the tour commitments will further delay the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ eleventh studio album and follow-up to 2011’s I’m With You.

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea Forms New Band Antemasque With Ex-Mars Volta Members

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has formed a new band, Antemasque, with former The Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López, vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, and drummer Dave Elitch. Antemasque has revealed the lead single to their upcoming album, a song entitled “4AM,” which can be listened to below. The song has an upbeat, punkish vibe.

The Mars Volta officially disbanded last year, with the possibility of a reunion between Rodríguez-López and Bixler-Zavala not completely ruled out despite some bad blood between the two. Flea collaborated with The Mars Volta with trumpet contributions on 2003’s debut album De-Loused in the Comatorium and 2005’s Frances the Mute, along with then-bandmate John Frusciante. Flea tweeted early Wednesday the following message:

Rolling Stone has reported that Antemasque will be a full-time project, and that Omar Rodríguez-López is still committed to his Bosnian Rainbows project as well as new album for that project. Listen to Antemasque’s lead single “4AM” below:

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ John Frusciante Forms New Band With Ex-Mars Volta Guitarist

John Frusciante has teamed up with his friend, collaborator, and former The Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López to form a new band called ‘Kimono Kult.’ The former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Frusciante will release an EP with the band entitled Hiding in the Light on March 4 through Neurotic Yell Records.

Also a member of the Kimono Kult lineup, Frusciante’s wife Nicole Turley contributed bass and synths for the four track EP and produced the new album. According to the band’s record label, the new EP is described of songs of “electro/dub/afro-beat/ avant-freak/jazz-like conversations of instrumental ecstasy.” You can pre-order Kimono Kult’s Hiding in the Light on Neurotic Yell Records.
