Guitarist Says Guns N’ Roses Have 2016 Plans: ‘We Get Along Really Well’

Guns N’ Roses guitarist Richard Fortus was interviewed a few days ago by Social Magazine, and Alternative Nation has transcribed some quotes from the interview.

“Guns N’ Roses will probably be doing something next year.” He added, “Hopefully you’ll be able to see both bands [Guns N’ Roses and Dead Daisies].”

Fortus said he has a great relationship with Axl Rose. “We get along really well. We come from a very similar place as far as our influences. We definitely relate on that level, and I think essentially with Axl, ultimately that’s all that really matters, the music. If we relate on that point, then everything else sort of falls into place.”

Fortus has been rumored to be part of a ‘hybrid’ Guns N’ Roses reunion lineup with Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, and Frank Ferrer. He said he was surprised when he was asked to join Guns N’ Roses in 2001.

“To be honest with you, it sort of wasn’t my thing. I wasn’t into metal as a kid, I was sort of a punk rock kid, and all of the bands I was in were all very different, they weren’t metal. So when I first got that call, I thought it was unusual, but it sort of made sense because of the people who were in that band at the time. Robin from Nine Inch Nails, Tommy from The Replacements, Brain from Primus, those were all guys that I knew, the same type of genre I was in, so it sort of made sense. Axl really wanted that, a diverse type of thing, he didn’t just want guys who were LA metal guys. GNR always had roots in punk rock as well.”

He also revealed that he heard that Axl Rose sang his vocals on Chinese Democracy in less than a week, and that surrounding issues were what were blocking the release of the album. He also discussed his longevity in GNR.

“I never really thought about it, and I’ve always done other things as well. I have to work, I have to do stuff, otherwise I get really depressed, if I’m not working, so I’ve always done other things, and it always keeps it sort of fresh, when you can step outside something and then come back to it. You have a new sense of appreciation for it, and a new perspective to add to it.”

Guitarist Hints At Involvement In Guns N’ Roses Reunion

Richard Fortus, who has been a guitarist for Guns N’ Roses since 2001, is claiming that he is still in Guns N’ Roses, which indicates that he will be involved in the rumored Guns N’ Roses 2016 reunion tour. The rumored lineup would see the core members including Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, Richard Fortus, and Frank Ferrer. Fortus and Ferrer would be kept on from the Chinese Democracy era lineup, with Slash and McKagan returning to the fold, so it would be a partial reunion of the classic Guns N’ Roses lineup.

Fortus told Casopis.Headliner.cz that while his band Dead Daisies are currently his top priority, he is still in Guns N’ Roses and that it is ‘definitely something.’

He mentioned that he works quickly with Dead Daisies, and that with Guns N’ Roses “everything takes years.”

Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx recently spilled the beans on a Guns N’ Roses reunion. Sixx is the second prominent musician to reveal the band is reuniting, after former Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland told Alternative Nation last week. A fan asked Sixx on Twitter last night if Guns N’ Roses were reuniting, and Sixx had a definitive response: ‘THEY ARE. EVERYBODY KNOWS.’ Sixx plays with former Guns N’ Roses guitarist DJ Ashba in Sixx:A.M., who he has a clear source in the Guns N’ Roses family.

Former Guns N’ Roses guitarist DJ Ashba discussed the rumored reunion of GNR’s original lineup on Facebook a few days ago. Ashba said, “Rumors, rumors, read all about it! Personally, I would love to see the original members of Guns N’ Roses reunite. Let’s hope it happens for the fans!!”

He also told a fan, “The fans deserve it. Never forget I am a fan myself.”

DJ Ashba was GNR’s guitarist from 2009 until earlier this year when he quit the band. You can read his letter to fans explaining why he quit below:

“Six years ago, I received a call that changed my life forever. The call was from a dear friend of mine (Katie McNeil-Diamond) who was working with Guns N’ Roses. It was an offer to audition for Axl Rose and earn a role in arguably the biggest rock band of my time. While I thought it was a complete long shot, I decided to go ahead and give it a try. Much to my shock and surprise, I got the gig. And so began the most incredible journey I could have possibly imagined. I was blessed with the opportunity to not only work with one of the most talented bands, but also to share the stage with a living legend and a truly gifted human being, Axl Rose. The amount of confidence and trust that Axl placed in me was genuinely heartwarming and truly career-defining. In the years that followed, I traveled the world many times over and played these incredible songs night after night to the most enthusiastic and loving crowds. As you can imagine, the friendships that were forged during that time were deep and long lasting. But the most beautiful surprise of all was YOU… the fans. You welcomed me into your lives with open arms and showed me love and support that I could only have dreamed of. From the very first time I stepped on stage and started playing ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ and felt the crowd erupt, I knew my life would never be the same. I’m not gonna lie…I was terrified!! But you were so accepting. You immediately turned my fear into pride. For that, I am truly grateful.

“So now it is with a very heavy heart and yet great pride that I announce that I’ve decided to close this chapter of my life and encapsulate the wonderful times that I’ve shared with Guns N’ Roses into fond memories. I have reached a point in my life where I feel its time to dedicate myself to my band Sixx A.M., my adoring wife and family, and to the many new adventures that the future holds for me.”

“I have always been driven by my passion for creating music and Sixx A.M. has always been a place where I can express myself honestly and share that passion with my two brothers and bandmates, Nikki Sixx and James Michael. As you know I have also been blessed with the love and support of my incredible wife, Naty, who has been at my side for much of this amazing journey.

“As I sit here writing this letter, I want to take a moment to thank Axl from the bottom of my heart for not only the most incredible experience of my life, but for truly believing in me. You are a true friend and a champion of mine and I am forever grateful. And even as I move on to pursue other endeavors, I will always remain one of your biggest fans. I also would like to thank each and every one of you fans for your love and support throughout the years. Without you, I am nothing. Please know that I do not take one minute of this amazing life for granted.

“I hope that you all join me as I forge ahead. Let’s conquer the world together!”

Guitarist Says 2016 Will Be ‘Big Year’ For Guns N’ Roses

Richard Fortus, the only guitarist who is officially still in Guns N’ Roses, discussed the status of the band during a recent interview with KSHE 95. He was not asked about Slash and Axl Rose reconciling, so the interview may have been conducted before the news came out. Alternative Nation has transcribed Fortus’ Guns N’ Roses discussion with the DJ.

DJ: Now, I would normally not ask you about Guns N’ Roses at all, because it is just old news, but man, are you the only guitar player left in the band now?

Richard Fortus: (Laughs) I’m the last man standing.

DJ: I’m telling you, you are! I know you are.

Richard: No, there’s a lot going on with that whole thing right now. It is looking like next year is going to be the big year for Guns N’ Roses.

DJ: Well, I’ve been hearing that, I’ve been hearing new record, but man, we hear that all the time about them. We hear that all the time about Van Halen, and it never happens.

Richard: I can’t really speak about Van Halen. (Laughs) But I think they should get Gary Cherone back.

DJ: Oh stop, stop, don’t get off the subject. Tell me now, you are the only Guns N’ Roses guitarist left right now.

Richard: (Stutters) Man, I can’t divulge information like that.

DJ: Alright, well let’s put it this way. To the mass audience out there, all we know of right now, is that you are the only guitar player left, because it’s been out.

Richard: As far as you know, that’s right (laughs).

Richard then sarcastically said that he wants to play in St. Louis next year with Guns N’ Roses, and hopes that all will be forgiven for the riot.

Slash stated in a recent interview with Aftonbladet that he and former Guns N’ Roses bandmate Axl Rose are friends again.

The reporter asked: “I heard you made friends with Axl Rose again, how was that possible after all those years?”

Slash responded: “It was probably way over due but it was very cool at this point. Let some of that…Dispell some of that negative stuff that was going on for so long.”

Slash refused to discuss a possible Guns N’ Roses reunion, asking to change the subject. The Guns N’ Roses News Twitter has a major update on this story, reporting that Axl Rose and Slash have been communicating for months, with a source informing them about their reconciliation months ago.
