Eagles of Death Metal Release Statement: ‘Love Overshadows Evil’

Earlier today, Eagles of Death Metal released a statement regarding the Paris Attacks on their Facebook page, that they were caught in the middle of:

“While the band is now home safe, we are horrified and still trying to come to terms with what happened in France. Our thoughts and hearts are first and foremost with our brother Nick Alexander, our record company comrades Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser, and Manu Perez, and all the friends and fans whose lives were taken in Paris, as well as their friends, families, and loved ones.

Although bonded in grief with the victims, the fans, the families, the citizens of Paris, and all those affected by terrorism, we are proud to stand together, with our new family, now united by a common goal of love and compassion.

We would like to thank the French police, the FBI, the U.S. and French State Departments, and especially all those at ground zero with us who helped each other as best they could during this unimaginable ordeal, proving once again that love overshadows evil.

All EODM shows are on hold until further notice.

Vive la musique, vive la liberté, vive la France, and vive EODM.”

Eagles of Death Metal lost four people who worked with the band: their merchandise manager Nick Alexander (who has worked for Cat Stevens, Sum 41, Alice in Chains and more) and Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser and Manu Perez, who all worked for record companies. While the tour is on hiatus, the band says they will play a show in Alexander’s memory in Austria on Dec 17th.

There is a campaign to get EODM’s cover of “Save a Prayer” by Duran Duran to Number 1 in the United Kingdom. If you live in the United Kingdom, we urge you to support this campaign. AlternativeNation met EODM weeks before the attack at the show at LA’s Teragram Ballroom and the show’s review can be found here.

Survivor Talks Eagles of Death Metal Merch Manager’s Death: ‘I Told Him I Loved Him’

It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach writing about this.

Helen Wilson, 49, told London’s Daily Telegraph from her hospital bed that she performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on Eagles of Death Metal merchandise manager Nick Alexander, her ex-boyfriend, in an attempt to save him during Friday’s horrific terrorist attack.  She also revealed that ISIS terrorists targeted disabled concert-goers in wheelchairs.

“Nick was shot in front of me.  We heard a couple of noises outside and people started running into the club. We didn’t know what was going on. Then maybe five, six guys came in with machine guns and shotguns and just started shooting people. It was mayhem.”

Anybody who attempted to escape the venue was shot, so she and Alexander got down on the floor.

“We got down on the floor,” she said. “I was afraid whenever I heard a step behind me … they machine-gunned everybody.”

Wilson said that Alexander was lying on the ground near her when someone moved, attracting the attention of the gunmen, who immediately started shooting at them.

“His back was to me and I couldn’t see what happened and I tried to keep him talking and then I tried to give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and they [the gunmen] were just sort of in the shadows and they would shoot if anyone said anything,” she told the paper. “Then he couldn’t breathe any more and I held him in my arms and told him I loved him. He was the love of my life.”

Wilson has undergone surgery and received a blood transfusion since the attack.  A GoFundMe for Alexander’s memorial has raised $77,000 as of this writing. Alexander was a veteran when it came to handling merchandise for bands, having worked for Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, and Sum 41.

A campaign is also underway to get Eagles of Death Metal to number one. See the campaign’s statement from Facebook below:

For those unaware, EODM and their fans were the band caught up in the horrific atrocities in Paris this week. We thought it would be a nice gesture to put their brilliant version of “Save a Prayer” to the U.K. No 1 spot as a show of support to the band and all of those affected.

For the record no we aren’t associated with the band or their record company, we’re just fans of them that feel happy to be alive, as some of our fellow EODM fans are tragically not now.

Royalties we assume would go to Duran Duran as they wrote the song but that’s not the point of this campaign. This is not for profit or financial gain, just to make a strong statement.

Eagles of Death Metal Still Under Lockdown In Paris Hotel With Guards

The Eagles of Death Metal are still in a hotel in Paris with guards protecting them and also a reported FBI presence, following the terrorist attack on their concert on Friday that killed fans and the band’s merchandise vendor Nick Alexander (a GoFundMe has been set up in his name).

While the band are still under lockdown in their hotel waiting to return home to Los Angeles, frontman Jesse Hughes’ family spoke to FOX Carolina about the tragedy. Mark King said, “The tragedy is awful, the deaths are awful, the reason it happened is unexplainable, but if anybody takes anything good away from this, is that a good person survived, and will never ever forget it.”

Don King said, “From the King and Hughes family, what we would like to say to the people of the City of Lights, we’re heartbroken over it too, because these people were the people who loved our cousin. And the other people who were victims of the tragedy, our heart goes out to them. We can only imagine how they feel, we almost lost our cousin, and it almost killed us thinking that he might have passed away.”

If any Alternative Nation readers have links to charities or donations to help the families of the victims, let us know and we will try to spread them.
