Former Winemaking Partner ‘Doesn’t Need’ Maynard James Keenan

Eric Glomski, Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan’s former winemaking partner, told the AZCentral that he didn’t need the iconic singer’s opinion when it came to wine.

“I don’t need Maynard Keenan or Kent Callaghan to tell me whether my wine is quality or not,” he said. “The person buying and drinking that bottle is the one who needs to decide.”

The article also states, “A newly formed Arizona wine group that aims to help consumers by touting quality wines will also have to sell itself to Arizona’s winemakers, as one of the leading makers on Tuesday called the Arizona Vignerons Alliance ‘divisive.’

The group, made public Monday, asks winemakers to voluntarily submit their bottles for tastings and lab analysis. If the wines meet certain standards and are proven, through an audit, to come exclusively from Arizona vineyards, the wines can display the Arizona Vignerons Alliance logo on the label.

But Eric Glomski, owner of Page Springs Cellars, one of the state’s largest and most decorated wineries, said he did not plan to submit his bottles to the group.”

“It doesn’t sound like a leadership role,” Glomski said. “It does seem like it’s divisive.”

Maynard James Keenan Tells Snowstorm To ‘Suck A Bag Of D**ks,’ Chewbacca Attends Tool Show

Tool toughed out to the snowstorm over the weekend and carried on with their concerts. Fans had great reviews of the show on the band’s Reddit page.

Section 331, perfect angles for all of the visuals. That fucking star man. They knew exactly what they were doing, and this was by far the best I’ve ever seen them perform. They completely reworked all of those songs, it’s as if they were a cover band of themselves only better than the original. Danny was basking in his greatness with the most technical and clear solo I’ve ever seen. Maynard is correct in saying this snow can “suck suck a big bag of salty dicks”

Section 208. My first time seeing Tool. They were incredible. I knew No Quarter was going to be the opener and I wasn’t really too excited…that song is just too long and slow to be an opener, IMO. BUT, being there, in the moment, it totally fucking worked. I have a new respect for that song. I wish the setlist was maybe 3-4 songs longer but I’m not complaining. Some of the songs they DID play were among my very favorites of theirs.

The sound quality in the arena was really good for where we were sitting, I was surprised. My only complaint was this lady SCREAMING throughout Primus’ entire set, (drunk lady voice), “GET UP!! WHY ARE YOU SITTING! GET THE FUCK UP!” Overall, it was amazing. I can’t believe I never saw them live before.

I was in 205. Hands down the best show I’ve ever seen. I’m not a huge fan of arenas but Bridgestone was perfect last night. The sound was amazing! I’ve seen shows in Rupp Arena in Lexington and the YUM Center in Louisville. Neither compared to the show in Bridgestone. No Quarter was on point! I recorded several songs on my cell and they’re really good quality! These guys know how to put on a show.

Adam Jones discussed Tool’s new album in a recent Rolling Stone interview.

“I’ll tell you, it’s wonderful. Things are really flowing and going really well, and I’m just blown away at the stuff that’s coming together. I’m excited and can’t wait for it to be done. It’s something I’ve been missing for a long time [laughs], that beautiful collaboration that we have because we’re all so different and have different tastes. But again, when you are all meeting in the middle and that thing you do that meets in the middle is just beautiful, it’s very rewarding. So yes, I’m very happy.”

“We probably have 20 potential song ideas now. Of course, 20 won’t be on the record. We’re just jamming. But I’ll tell you, there’s nothing better than having too many good songs then not enough. It’s great. You pick your faves.”

He also discussed how Maynard James Keenan is working with the band.

“We have an FTP and a Dropbox and we’re in communication. He’s got other stuff he does, so we keep him in the loop, and he has written lyrics, but he’s still working on that and he’ll commit. The best thing for all of us is when the song is done. I don’t write leads until the song is done. You want to get a vibe. And Maynard can work on lyrics, but until the song’s done and he knows how the end is, he’s still figuring out the flow.

The thing with Tool is you have four critical thinkers who like different stuff, so our process is not an easy one but it’s a very rewarding one. So yes, he is exposed to new music. It’s always been this way and it probably will always be this way and it’s just how people work.”

Maynard James Keenan Reacts To Fans Being Offended By Rape Lyric At Tool Show

When Tool played in San Diego over the weekend, Maynard James Keenan took the chance to respond to fans being offended by the word ‘rape’ being in the lyrics to “Opiate.” Keenan of course was dryly sarcastic as always, discussing the San Francisco feminist vegans and others of “those” were offended by the phrase “rape you.” Quite thoughtfully, he replaced the phrasing with “metaphorically rape you [with a rhino horn].”

Maynard James Keenan Clarifies Tool Comments: ‘The Fanatics Are Insufferable’

Maynard James Keenan has taken to Twitter to clarify his comments about Tool’s fanbase. Keenan had kind words for the band’s fanbase, but was still critical of the Tool ‘fanatics’ who he called retards a couple of days ago. “Our core fanbase aren’t fanatics. They’re music lovers & artists & good people. Its the fanatics that are insufferable.” He also said it is untrue that he wants nothing to do with Tool or the band’s fanbase. Keenan also mentioned ‘context,’ implying that he was only talking about specific types of fans. Tool also posted a photo of Facebook with the caption: ‘4hrs a.m. w/ @puscifer 4hrs p.m. w/ @tool @barry_mccockener and I TOTALLY hating on each other. #donttaketheclickbait #context.’

Maynard James Keenan joked about his Tool bandmates and mocked fanatics of the band in a new Phoenix New Times interview.

Kennan acknowledges that there was indeed humor on Tool’s albums to the reporter. But as with any time he’s asked about Tool, his answers quickly become curt. A hint of exasperation creeps into his voice and he exhales heavily through his nose.

“Yeah, it’s there,” he says. “But people miss it because they’re so focused on the other bullshit.”

He shakes his head.

“It’s lost. Insufferable people . . . It’s just ridiculous, retards. I’m sorry. Can’t help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up.”

Did he have to corral the other band members to play this one show in 2015?

“No, they had to con me into it.”

Deftones is also playing the festival. Are we going to hear “Passenger,” the Deftones song featuring Keenan guesting on vocals? Keenan hasn’t performed it live in more than a decade.

He shakes his head vigorously.

Then the million-dollar question: When’s the next Tool album coming out?

“There’s nothing to say,” he says. “I can’t.”
