Justin Bieber Meets Courtney Love & Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic

Courtney Love attended the debut of Saint Laurent’s men’s fall fashion line at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles last night with Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. The pair met Justin Bieber, as seen below. Love described Bieber as ‘such a gentleman.’ Novoselic also praised the young pop stars, tweeting: ‘Everybody loves Justin.’ Love also hung out with Lady Gaga backstage.

Justin Bieber’s stylist Karla Welch spoke to Esquire in November about Justin Bieber wearing a Nirvana t-shirt to the American Music Awards.

“It’s not the first time he’s worn a Nirvana tee. We just have a nice collection of vintage tees, and then the tee he wore yesterday was actually Jerry Lorenzo’s from Fear of God. Jerry takes vintage tees and re-cuts them.”

Welch continued: “Of course he’s a fan of Nirvana. I think it’s so funny that all these people are up in arms. I’m sure Kurt Cobain would be like – I mean I can’t speak for him, obviously – but I don’t think he was so snotty or that he would diss anyone who appreciated his music. I think he understood that that is like the antithesis of music appreciation.

“It’s so funny. But you know, fans are fans!” she added. “Whatever you want to say about being pop, but I don’t think Kurt Cobain gave two fucks, and I don’t think Justin Bieber does either. You know what I mean?”

Kurt Cobain’s widow Courtney Love had a surprising reaction to Bieber’s shirt: she loved it. Love tweeted, “You’re cool in my book Justin Bieber.”

Nirvana Bassist Talks ‘Beautiful’ Kurt Cobain Dreams, Grunge Being Feminine

Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic appeared on Fox Business’ Kennedy on Wednesday. Kennedy, who hosted MTV’s Alternative Nation in the 90’s, asked Novoselic about Grunge’s impact on the music industry and how it killed hair metal. Alternative Nation transcribed Novoselic’s comments.

“Things flipped like day and night. You had the hair metal bands, they had these really soft features and fluffy hair.”

Kennedy added, “Like Chris Cornell, great metal voice.”

Novoselic responded, “I love Chris, but Soundgarden wasn’t like a hair metal band. They had these soft physical features, but this macho bravado. Then Grunge rock came out, and we had facial hair and flannel shirts, but feminine sensibilities.”

Kennedy also asked Novoselic if he still dreams about Kurt Cobain. Novoselic described the dreams, “I do. It’s beautiful, it’s just loving. You know when you lose somebody, and you see them in a dream, and you just feel all this love, it’s nice.”

He also discussed Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

“I think if Bernie Sanders gets elected, we might have Sanka, but that’s his charm, he’s like the uncle who drank Sanka. Bernie Sanders is cool, I’m concerned about the position he takes on Citizens United vs. FEC.”

“First of all, it’s a very cynical title. You have someone like Bernie Sanders, standing in front of a crowd of 14,000 people, and he’s disparaging the term ‘citizens united.’ The last I checked citizens united, coming together, is a good thing.”

Ex-REM Guitarist Peter Buck to Release Solo Album Featuring Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic

R.E.M.’s former members have retained a relatively low profile since the band’s amicable break-up in 2011 and have no intentions of reuniting. However, Peter Buck has remained fairly active in his solo work, and even conducted a partial REM reunion sans Stipe at a solo show in Athens, Georgia.  He has released two solo albums since the break up, Peter Buck and I Am Here to Blow Your Mind Once Again  on Mississippi Records.  These releases are only available on vinyl, perhaps due to the fact Buck is a huge vinyl collector, which at last estimates included over 25,000 vinyl releases.

His latest album, set for release on October 16th, is Warzone Earth, from Mississippi/Little Axe Records. Buck has talked the album up highly as his “magnus opus” and it includes his backing band Super Earth, as well as Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. More details are included in Buck’s official statement from the R.E.M. website:

“I’ve just had an exciting couple of weeks working with Tucker Martine on the new record by The Jayhawks which is a stunning tour de force. I think it will blow a lot of minds. I spent yesterday with my good friend Mike, who came to town to add some Millsian glamour to the proceedings. And I am pleased to announce this morning my new magnum opus Warzone Earth is now available. The record features two alternate covers by the folk art legend Mingering Mike. I never thought I’d look so good in tights!
All kidding aside, it’s the best solo record I have made, and I’m excited for it to be out in the world. It’s available through littleaxerecords.com who distributes the record. It should also be available in all the cool independent record stores in your neighborhood, once again, vinyl only, but feel free to make a cassette for your friends.

Despite the claim, it seems to not be possible to purchase the record from Little Axe at this time. Stay tuned, folks.

Krist Novoselic Talks Kurt Cobain’s Rome Suicide Attempt: ‘He Was Loaded On Heroin’

Krist Novoselic recently discussed Kurt Cobain’s suicide and Nirvana with SPIN.

“He should have never done that, he should have never done that, what he did. I don’t know, I mean it happens all the time, it happens every day. I think he was out of his mind on heroin, I remember seeing him on those last days, and he was loaded, so he wasn’t thinking clearly when he did that. And after Rome, he tried to kill himself in Rome, and he was really weird after that. He was quiet, he should have never done that, but he did it, and it’s terrible, people do it, I was heartbroken when he did that.”

He also discussed where Nirvana would be today if Kurt Cobain was alive. “You never know, maybe we would suck. Look at Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters are on top of the world. So he kept the flag going for rock and roll, he’s just like the leading act in the world. It’s just hard to speculate. I wish Kurt had lived, and was a monk somewhere, he would have been a great monk, he could have been a great painter, he could have been a great sculptor. He was such a talented artist, that he could have done whatever he wanted to do, and he didn’t have to do what he did.”

Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic, Flea & Paul McCartney Top ‘Richest Bassists’ List

In a new article published by ‘TheRichest,’ the world’s top 10 wealthiest bassists were ranked. It comes as no surprise that legendary artist Paul McCartney tops the list with an estimated net worth of $1.2 billion.

Influential alt-rock bassists also ranked among the richest bassists. Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers took the no. 6 spot with an estimated net worth of $115 million, while Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic finished off the list at no. 10 with an estimated net worth of $40 million. Also making the list were Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones and Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler.

Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic Jams With Former R.E.M. Members

Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic tweeted a photo of himself with R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck as well as R.E.M. touring drummer Bill Rieflin. Buck and Rieflin were featured on Sweet 75’s self-titled album, a project formed by Novoselic after the death of Kurt Cobain. Nirvana were fans and friends of R.E.M. during the 1990s, with a strong friendship between singers Michael Stipe and Kurt Cobain.
