STONE GOSSARD SAYS NEW SOUNDGARDEN SONGS ARE “SO FREAKIN GOOD YOU CAN’T EVEN BELIEVE IT”

Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard was interviewed over a week ago on WMMR. Somehow I missed it then, but here’s a quote:

“Soundgarden has just recorded a new record that I’ve had the honor of hearing a few tracks of that’s so freakin good you can’t even believe it. When people hear it they’re going to freak out, because it’s just a testament to how creative those guys are and how great Chris is as a singer and as a songwriter. That band is just going to blow people away.”

  • Vann

I’m so pumped but I wish they’d stop teasing and release a single or something! I’m starved for Soundgarden material!

  • Calvin McLain

Yeah no more teasing…Just a single will due for now..

  • Dreux

I don’t know why, but comments like this and McCready’s praise of the new album only lower my expectations, which I think is for the best. I think it’s because stuff like this would naturally heighten my expectations and makes me only imagine being underwhelmed.

  • YUMM

    Wow…

  • Di_McD

    Just release it……..

  • Gsushc

Well, even bad Soundgarden will demolish pearl jam baring pj’s first album which could hold it’s own next to superunknown!

  • mr. general

    nice!

    :) Stone is God 😀
    also…

  • Grungy

He could of said nothing. He likes what he heard. Will others feel the same?
Time will tell if what he said is true for me. I find it a + and think they should let us all hear at least one song ASAP.

  • Crazies

as much as i admire Stone Gossard as an musician, i’ll have to listen for myself and judge if it’s freakin good. no offense..

  • Markus

First Mike and now Stone – sounds good, but I never thought of not being something good 😀
But I like this kind of relationship between Pearl Jam and Soundgarden! They support each other, what is very cool!

  • limo wreck

    Did he like LTR?

  • Andrei

Of course he’s going to praise it, Jesus, what did you people expect?

  • thefreewheelinMarkArm

I really just want to know the album title at this point.

    Also Stone’s comment is irrelevant

  • xdcx

Andrei he could of said nothing like has been said with Mike McCready and now Stone. They both think it’s good stuff and wait until it comes out.

I know there friends but the praise seems genuine and they don’t talk like ass kissers ever before that I have read about Soundgarden or anyone else.

  • xdcx

thefreewheelinMarkArm if Stone’s opinion on some songs he heard is irrelevant then how about us who haven’t heard it.

  • MAYAN CALENDAR 2012

Pearl Jam have loved and supported Soundgarden for the past 20 years , because of their long time Seattle grunge rock connections, Stone Gossard and Jeff Amment were in Mother Love Bone, their lead singer Andrew Wood died of a drug overdose but he was good friends and roommates with Chris Cornell, so of course theres going to be a lifetime commitment of respect and overall musical appreciation of each others bands , however so far from listening to the new Soundgarden Avengers soundtrack, I really wonder if we will hear a modern day version of Audioslave?? Because it seems like Chris Cornell has been writing more and more pop style songs more than rock songs , so I dont know about all this praise coming from Stone Gossard. But only time will tell if Soundgarden will rock once again or just be a mediocre reunion for a while.

  • GrungeJunkie385

I cannot wait for them to release it. However, the albums that bands take their time on usually end up being the better albums.I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t getting completely impatient. They reunited over 2 years ago. I saw them at Lolla 2010 and it was amazing. I can’t wait for them to tour in support of this new album. I hope they do a PJ/Soundgarden double bill tour with Temple of the Dog sets in the middle. that would be worth whatever they decided to charge. In any event I can’t fucking wait. I’m also excited for AIC’s new album and tour. I really wish they would do a Grunge-a-palooza. Have PJ, SG, Jane’s, AIC, STP, TOTD, Mudhoney, Mark Lannegan, Brad, The Pumpkins, Mad Season, Sonic Youth, and many more. I would fly anywhere to see that shit. It would be un-fucking-believable. A guy can dream…

  • superSG

Mayan Calender, if I do recall correctly, I remember you saying how you were Chris Cornell’s cousin and how you used P2P to download Soundgarden’s new album “Sonic Heaven”, or atleast that is what you say it is…

so if we don’t believe it we won’t be let down….

Either way I know the album will be great and hope they hurry up and release a single.

  • Shadow on the sun

It seems like stone and mike have taken pages out of Morello’s book. He loved to hype the crap out of tje a-slave albums and that level of enthusiasm is infectious. It makes me more excited to hear it if that was even possible

  • SuperSG

    Its all good Mayan.

  • Bent

I will know whether this is credible or not when he expresses his opinion on “Live to Rise”

  • constantine

    yeaah interesting, RELEASE IT!

  • piscesiscariot

All of these motherfucking bands from the 90’s who had a huge impact in our teenage lives need to fucking BRING IT! I’m fucking sick of this pop/rap bullshit….that shit is more sinister than anything Marilyn Manson was back in the day. Alternative bands need to go back to being Alternative and make real fucking music like they used to. I know you’re pushing 50 but Neil Young was saying real shit in his 50’s why can’t you guys? We need you guys more than ever!! You guys still have all that equipment…use that shit!
