STONE GOSSARD SAYS NEW PEARL JAM ALBUM IS “ALMOST DONE”

Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard discussed Pearl Jam’s upcoming new album in a new interview with GuerrillaCandy.com:

“It’s almost done and as far as what it sounds like, it sounds like Pearl Jam. You’re going to hear some rock songs and you’re going to hear some quiet songs and you’ll hear some songs in between. That’s all I can really say about it because we aren’t talking about it yet so it doesn’t make much sense for me to say anything.”

  • Ben

Really uninformative! I guess the chances of getting the album this year sounds more likely now. However I guess I will just wait until a release date is set or we get to hear some new music before I get too excited.
I’m happy to wait for them to make an interesting album but I really hope they don’t take this long next time round. And it better be a longer album and hopefully more Stone, Mike & Jeff!

  • juca

awesome, hopefully this time it is true even if the new album is coming out, I look forward! go go go PJ!!! 😉

  • Iowa Mike

    Announce the tour!!!!

  • melonhead4

Theyve been saying that for months…Im hoping it comes out this year, i also hope its kind of a dark record ala Binaural…Backspacer was just awful a part from a few songs…They need to redeem themselves

  • Shoegazer

I thought Backspacer, though flawed, was easily their best album since Yield. Of course that’s just my opinion, but I was never able to connect to Avocado. I am definitely interested in where the band goes with this album, especially since the band members have been doing so much work outside of PJ lately.

  • Freb Bob

Its hard to compare backspacer to anything else they have done. Does it have the depth of something like Vitalogy? Nope, but then again does Vitalogy have the insightful lyrics of realising you are part of a bigger world like Amongst the Waves or Unthought Known… Apples and Oranges… I loved Binaural and Riot Act for what they were… Appreciation for Riot Act grows by the year… and Backspacer has its place in their catalogue… Some developments have made me a bit iffy about the new album… especially that its more of a part time band now, just getting together is down the list of priorities… but fingers crossed… they have already given us more momumental albums and gigs than most other bands…

  • Brain of K

I can’t get my head around the love people now have for Binaural. It’s the worst record Pearl Jam have ever made. Riot Act was way better. Avocado was better as well.

Backspacer was decent, no more no less. I’m confident that they’ll be back with a tremendous record though. Mon the Pearl Jam!!!

  • drew

vitalogy, while heavy, did have bugs, satan’s bed, spin the black and the trippy outro tune……….

regardless, i love stone and lookin forward to the new record and tour!

on a separate note, saw/heard built to spill for the first time in 5 years last saturday; while they were always great live, last saturday was absolutely fuckin’ amazing!

go see them if you dare!

  • Jack Irons

    Zzzzzzz

  • Craigory52

I mentioned it before but Binaural is the only PJ album I do not like (exception of “Grievance” and maybe “Light Years”). The songs just weren’t good and production was awful. If this album was more in the of Yield or Vitalogy I’d be really happy. But I enjoyed Backspacer as a whole and the production was so crisp and clear so I wouldn’t mind a little touch of that album as well.

  • Raj

Faster than expected, I’m interested to see if they are going to keep the same formula or change it up. Ten and Vs. are awesome albums. Vitalogy and No Code also have a lot of great songs. Even the newer albums still have a lot of good songs.

  • Scrappy-Doo

Hopefully its a lot better than Backspacer.

My thoughts exactly. It’s almost like the way AIC did it, real silent – then all of the sudden: Oh, we’re done recording the new record guys!

And from listening to Hollow, Phantom Limb, Stone and the 1st 30 seconds of Voices I know without doubt that this new AIC record is completely different and I can’t wait to listen to it in it’s entirety. Hopefully PJ will sneak-release and give us a taste of the new music as well.

Anyway, really happy, can’t wait until this drops. PJ never tours near where I live but I love them nonetheless.

    Peace

  • Is he one?

    @Brain of K

I couldn’t agree more. Avocado is my fav since Yield. Binaural is PJ’s worst effort.

Great news about the next album to come, although definitely not expecting anything groundbreaking or amazing. But who knows… Avocado made me fall off my chair, I didn’t expect much at the time.

  • GwynnKatie

Hope you didn’t hurt yourself when you fell off that chair. heh

  • Is he one?

Luckily, no. Somebody must have lit candles and prayed for me. Pheeeeew!

  • Fred Bob

Hey Drew don’t get wrong, vitalogy/yield are my faves, each album has its charms but they are part of my personal development. I find the only album I couldn’t connect with is avocado… An album that doesn’t gel like the rest… Even no code while quite a patchwork has a vibe that its own. I think backspacer had the same template as avocado but they coloured it in with more flourishes

  • Deviate

    I want Ten 2.0

    And Vs 2.0

  • Is he one?

Vs., Vitalogy, Yield and the avocado are the standout PJ albums.

Ten, No Code, Riot act and Backspacer are excellent albums.

Binaural would be ok if it weren’t one of the best rock bands ever who made it. Only real disappointing album for PJ IMO. Backspacer is too short, but good.

  • Deviate

In other words, I miss Stone Jam.

  • Deviate

Eddie Jam just hasn’t been the same.

  • Is he one?

True Stone wrote the best riffs!

But I think the key for a powerful PJ album is that Eddie is into it good time! Like when it was time to record the avocado, Eddie admitted he was freaking mellow during the recording of the 2 previous albums. It showed with Avocado!

  • Scrappy-Doo

I don’t want another Ten. That is what the last two albums tried to be, but failed miserably. I hope they are going into a more experimental direction instead of trying to appease to Top 40 music fans with catchier songs. I also want a lot more solos by Mike, which is what the last two albums lacked.

  • GwynnKatie

Is he one? Good one! Actually, if you knew me well you would know if I believed you were hurt in any way that – that is exactly what I might have done… unless a person specifically says no pls don’t do that…

Of course I love Ten and Vs., No Code is a personal favorite, but —
    :::shoot me now:::
What is Avocado? I have no idea what that one is.
Yes I guess I am a shitty PJ fan.
I believe when all five of them work together is when the best stuff is produced, especially Stone, Mike & Ed.

BTW, I want to know what someone said to them before that photo was taken as they are all cracking up — with nothing at or around that table they are standing/sitting around. Curious.

    Peace

  • drew

    fred bob!

no, i hear ya; i love vitalogy and yield, i was just pointing out that vitalogy does have some not too serious tunes, as did backspacer-

personally, i dig all their albums just about equally, with backspacer being the weak-ish link.

unthought known, got some and the fixer i dig much though!

  • SmashIT

Is it Possible that Im going to finally Get
    MAN OF STEEL
    PEARL JAM
    IN ONE YEAR!!!!!

  • Chadimus

    Layne STALEY

  • Chadimus

iTS HARD TO START THINGS OVER.

  • Mark

whoever wants Ten 2.0 or Vs 2.0 get the fuck out of here, seriously. I don’t want anything 2.0. I want newly progressed fuckin pearl jam. I trust whatever they’ve been writing at the time. They always write what they feel and make the music THEY want to make at the time. I’ve loved every album. While, Backspacer is their weakest, it is still a very good album. I would love to see something really blow my mind though. Truly, I’m just hoping for longer songs, some more experimentation, some dark moments, and more songs.

  • Silver

I just want songs that last more than 3 minutes please…..
    Even more than 4 minutes
    Songs with intro….with bridge…with solos…etc….

  • GRUNGECASTER

Please give us better music this time Pearl Jam , we have all stood by your wonderful grunge rock band and still bought every album you have made :) thank you

and please give us something rough, tough, punk, fast , loud , like VITALOGY :) thanks

    go PJ in 2013 😉

  • Deviate

Ok, Mark, I’ll leave. Please don’t hurt me.
