New Photo Of President Obama Meeting Eddie Vedder & His Wife

Pearl Jam Activism (@PJActivism on Twitter) released a new photo of President Barack Obama meeting Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and his wife Jill from back in January, taken by Pete Souza. Pearl Jam Activism tweeted the photo along with a happy birthday message to Obama on August 4th.

NBC News reported in January that President Obama’s visit with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder was shorter than Backspacer, lasting under 30 minutes. The White House described Vedder as a ‘friend of the Obama family.’ The visit capped off Obama’s two week vacation in Oahu. The Obamas are renting a vacation home not too far away from Vedder’s home in Kailua.

Vedder played a set at a Florida fundraiser in 2012 for Obama, and has been a longtime supporter of his. Vedder told Repubblica (via translation) in 2009, “The night he was elected, I wanted to go out and dance in the street. The next day, Seattle had a rare day without rain, the sky was clear.”

He added that the people who had not voted for Obama were recognizable at first glance as they were, “Sad, disappointed, pathetic.” He added that he was disgusted when President Bush was reelected in 2004, “When Bush was reelected, I could not help but think: ‘Fuck you Americans, because you are ill-informed and base your vote on values that I can not accept.’”

  • Carla Tenorio

How do you know that this is his wife? It is proper courtesy to identify people when you tweet to a high ranking official, especially the President of the United States. Vedder did not do this. He didn’t even memtion that this is his wife.A reply to @POTUS & @BarackObama tweet says that this is his cousin Kathy Davis, not his wife.It was not corrected. You just don’t give out false information about your President or who he meets with, even if you hate him. You can do this with fans, but not with @POTUS. Secret service googles your activities as well, so behave.

    • Chris

Erm, POTUS was there when they met, why would he need this woman identifying to him? It’s a photo of them standing together.

      • Carla Tenorio

It’s a public tweet to a government official, if not the highest ranking public official, not a private message, people should be identified properly. It’s proper courtesy and decorum because when you tweet it, it’s for public exposure and consumption.

        • Chris

Right, so you are just looking for excuses to whine. Gotcha.

          • Hendrix

No, I think that is the person who has a website devoted to trying to disprove that Eddie and Jill are married. That love song he wrote for her where he used their wedding footage in the video was enough to convince me, I don’t know why he would make gestures for her if their love wasn’t real.

          • Chris

Fuck me is that really a thing? Google gave me nothing, can you link?

          • Hendrix

For the record, I do not believe this and apologize in advance for including the link, but this is the back story why that person has a seizure anytime Jill is mentioned http://www.jam-river.com/pearl-jam/news/pearl-jam-rumors/1478-eddies-outed-as-a-fake-father.html

          • Chris

Ahh ok, so basically this guy is mentally ill.

            That is very sad.

          • glamrocks

oh wtf, I really can’t believe this! I thought all this stalker shit died out years ago! This is the kind of crap you read about with 1D fans, or even Benedict Cumberbatch. Eddie is 50 years old, surely he deserves a break from all this childish speculation about his marriage! People should learn to just get over it!

          • Hendrix

I am with you! Eddie has done a marvelous job of shielding his wife and kids from the spotlight to limit this sort of unwarranted microscope on their lives and keep the freaks at bay!!

    • Corndog

My god. You’d think that after you crashed your car into the guys house you’d just let it go….

    • Poltergeist

Was it your reply to the tweet? Lol Jill is a wonderful, sincere lady, so why does it matter what their relationship is? At least Eddie isn’t subjecting the masses to his loony toon embarrassment of a mother in law.

      • mypat623

Ha.. You don’t like YiaYia? Lol….

  • Mike

Obama ruined the country. I LOVE Vedder’s music but he should keep his political beliefs to himself. I pay to hear his music, not his political beliefs. Please Eddie, keep writing & playing music but keep your mouth shut otherwise

    • Chris

Jeez, you’re not much for freedom of speech then? He’s a citizen like anybody else, if he wants to project his political views through his work, as is a time honoured tradition for artists of all stripes, he is more than entitled to do so. The fact that you feel so threatened by it is all the more reason for him to do so, clearly you fear him speaking up for what he believes in.

If you don’t like it, you don’t buy his music. But telling him to shut up about things you no doubt run your own mouth on at every chance you get, is just utterly pathetic. The political elite don’t want anybody having influence except them, and you happily do their work of suppressing the American people for them with nonsense like this. You fucking sucker.

      • glamrocks

Exactly. And why should artists not be allowed to express their political beliefs but corporations and anyone else can? Corporations express their politics through funding and lobbying their favoured parties and politicians. Why don’t they just shut up and just deliver their services like they are supposed to?

    • God

put your dick by in you mouth mike

      • Mike

I can’t it’s too busy being in your mother’s mouth, then I’m gonna skull fuck your grandma

        • God

skull fuck? you must still be in middle school

    • glamrocks

I don’t know what you listen to but his political beliefs are a huge part of his music. Without them he wouldn’t be the man we know and love.

    • Annette

      Really!

    • — J —

      What did he ruin, exactly?

  • Mike

I’m all for freedom of speech but don’t force it down people’s throats, like ALL liberals do!!!

    • Chris

This is just blatantly stupid, he’s a singer, he sings about things he wants to sing about. Just like singers of all politicfal leanings do. He’s not forcing it down your throat, you are going out and buying it, and listening to what he has to say. You only oppose him saying what he thinks because you don’t like what he has to say.

If that’s not acceptable to you, stop buying his music. So childish.

      • Marky Spoofy

Stop trying to censor others. Your flaming liberal proclivities are evident in your attempt to belittle and shut other people up. Take your nonsense elsewhere. While you’re at it, get off the dole that Mike’s taxes fund and get a real job. Talk about a self-righteous hypocrite.

        • glamrocks

How do you know he’s on the dole? How do you know mike isn’t? how do you know mike even pays his taxes? If he’s a conservative/republican type like he seems then more than likely he’s against taxes, and if he’s rich he’s probably got ways of getting round paying them! Don’t talk bollocks.

          • mypat623

Every wealthy person, Republican, Democrat or other, has a way around taxes. Although I don’t like Mr. Obama as a politician, I would love to sit down and drink a beer with him.

          • Donny

You telling me I no longer have to pay taxes? Gee, I WISH that were true. Thinking you’re a naive kid if you actually believe people easily find ways around taxes. I think the people to whom you’re referring already pay WAY more than their “fair share.” What about the 47% who pay NO taxes?

          • mypat623

Hardly a teenager, probably older than you. Everyone always assumes that it is just Rep. that love a good tax loophole. What I was suggesting is that anyone that can get around paying less taxes do. If I could buy a chicken and call myself a “farmer”, to pay less taxes, I would.

          • Donny

Quite frankly, I think taxes should be abolished.

          • mypat623

Agree. Especially property taxes. One never really owns ones home.

          • Chris

Thanks Glamrocks, but you really don’t need to take him seriously.

    • — J —

Doesn’t the republican party try and legislate women’s health and are attempting to force christianity on everyone? Talking isn’t forcing, but making laws that force your silly cult beliefs on others certainly is.

      • Marky Spoofy

Better than you freaks trying to cram Islam down everyone’s throats. Think I’ll stick with silly cult beliefs as opposed to people who wish to decapitate me. Is this guy for real??

        • — J —

Keep your cult out of my home. It belongs in your silly child-rape dens you call church.

          • Donny

I’m not particularly religious, but I sure don’t have the audacity you liberals have in claiming to know all regarding religion (or lack thereof). Let us all know when you get your doctorate in theology. Until then, you might want to quit embarrassing yourself.

  • Poltergeist

No offense to Eddie and Jill, they are both lovely people, but it seems many celebrities are “friends of the family” because Obama has spent much of his time using his position to brush elbows with the Hollywood crowd instead of helping or relieving the people who are being squashed and suppressed by some of them!

    • — J —

He’s in Hawaii. How is Hawaii, Hollywood, exactly?

  • Annette

    Well, Ed…whadda ya think now?

    • Chris

He probably think the USA is a shitload better off than it was 8 years ago.

  • Annette

Still feel like dancin in the streets? Oh, the look you saw on the faces of non-Obama supporters wasn’t “sad, disappointed and pathetic” …it was a look of FEAR!
You know the look…it’s the one you see staring back at you when you look in a mirror.
    Funny how times have changed!
    Who were the truly ill-informed?

    • — J —

What fear? The economy is awesome right now and the country is prospering.

      • Chris

Err yeah, what planet is she on?

The USA is still dealing with the Bush legacy though unfortunately, which is ISIS, and a truly fractured Middle East, but you can be pretty sure electing another Bush isn’t going to fix that.

        • Marky Spoofy

Bush legacy, my ass. CLINTON & the libs set up the economic downfall by pressuring banks into making all of those NINJA loans…for one…

You sound like a bunch of mindless parrots squawking and repeating 5-min evening news blurbs written by equally mindless types with degrees in journalism (is that REALLY a major?? unreal. “look ma, I got my degree in fluffology…I be really smart”

          • Chris

Do you not actually know what ISIS is? I’ll give you a clue, they exist because of an illegal war that Bush started, which destablised Iraq and a large part of the Middle East creating a perfect breeding ground for militant religious nutters to foster more extremists.

This has precisely nothing to do with the sub prime mortgage market you dumb fucking rube.

          • Donny

Deregulation of the markets was set in place by Bill Clinton just prior to him leaving office. For the record, NAFTA and GATT were also signed into law by Clinton. In addition, it was Clinton who signed the dismantling of Glass-Stegall into law.

          • Chris

And it has been supported by both the Bush & Obama administrations since, like I just said.

    • Mike

I totally agree agree. I’m 37 & Obama is the WORST president in my lifetime so far. He honestly won thanks to the race card. People are afraid to say how bad he’s done because he’s the black president. If he was white people would line up to bash him!!!!

  • Thelonious Funk

It looks like Eddie is toking on a doob right in front of the prez in that first picture

  • Go Hiomlán Mandelbrotmenge Imi

Americans, your country is doing better than in all the Bush years. Obama is a good president. I don’t get it how anyone can not see this.

  • Marky Spoofy

Obama just looks like he’s forcing politeness to Vedder. Guessing he doesn’t want to alienate political supporters.

  • dewi9065

whoo.. his wife needs someone to advice her what to wear. what a hideous dress.
