• bagman

what a fucking load of shit, this doesnt rip anything off, get over it!!

  • Cody

They sound similar, yeah, but it’s not ripped off. If you wanna hear a song that was ripped off, listen to Queen’s/David Bowie’s Under Pressure, and then listen to Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby……..

  • Jeremy

It does sound a bit like the Foo Fighers song, but not a total rip off.

  • Mills

I don’t think it’s a rip off. Foo is better though. One of their best songs and videos.

  • John

This is clearly not a rip off … I hate the offspring but I have to say that this isn’t even close to times like these

  • peter

i read these comments and figured to side with the masses. now that ive heard it, i gotta say its just as different as it is the same. but as a musician, i have to admit it is very similar

  • peter

either way, times like these is better πŸ™‚

  • johnatan

ok it’s not a direct rip off.. but i hear a lot of similarities in the song structure.. its kinda foo fighterish.

  • lou

    not to bad lol

  • wes.c.adle

    i’ve heard worse,

there is some bullshit nickelback song, that i hear on the radio, (i couldn’t tell you the name of it) that makes me sick my stomach (something about a bad GF?) i don’t know.

BUt they totally rip off the beginning guitar solo of The Cult’s “Fire Woman”.

fucking assholes, someone should burn nickelbacks tour bus with them in it.

  • Doug

^^That was actually Theory of a Deadman. But its all the same really.

But yeah, this is really a nonissue.

  • Max

Yeah.. Not a rip off at all..

  • Gravedancer

Give me a break. It’s really not ripped off at all. Glad everyone else feels the same way.

  • Barewire

wes.c.adle, the riff after the chorus in Times Like These is pretty much the main riff for
the Cult’s She Sells Sanctuary. Same band, different song.
Related note: Check out the Cult’s new record, it’s pretty good.

  • Junior

    ?_? Anything for news.

  • Evan

Cody – There’s an itty bitty “ting.” It’s not the same.

  • Chris J.

Rock fucking sucks in 2012, kinda like this site… Kill me if I ever write music or news like this, PLEASE

This sounds like shit, the new garbage sounds like kelly clarkson mixed with the fucking chiquita banana lady, bush is playing some hold me hold me bullshit, and I could go on and on – and what’s so fucking horrible about it? The press and obviously the majority of fans out there are eating it up saying its the best shit they’ve ever done. OUTRAGEOUS!

Offspring you don’t sound at all like Foo Fighters, you sound like every other piece of crap on rock radio. Pop culture and music in 2012 makes me sick.

  • Cody

motherfucker stole my name!! im the cody and i have been posting here for like two years. go with cody 2 bastard

  • Allura Music

After a couple of minutes, I just had to turn this Offspring stuff off. It just sounds too bad, my ears just couldn’t take it anymore. LOL.

  • http://recycledfilm.net Charlie

Totally not a ripoff at all. Also, Offspring used to be so awesome but now they SUCK! What happened to stuff like Killboy Powerhead and Self Esteem? Seriously though these 2 songs sound almost nothing alike to me.

  • Del

I’d say the bridge part in the war on wisdom by the Melvins rips off times like these.

  • http://www.lastfm.es/user/Sugar-Coma Medea

    I don’t think so

  • Cody

times like these isnt even good enough to rip off.

  • The Incredible Mr. Mark Arm

not a rip off, please grow up brett
and this new offspring song sucks bad compared to their earlier work

  • Patrick

At least its not another Courtney Love tabloid’esque “news story”.

  • 2012 MAYAN CALENDAR

IS THE OFFSPRINGS CONSIDERED A GRUNGE BAND FROM THE 1990S? OR JUST POP PUNK?

  • Jon

Offspring is one of the worst bands of the last 15 years and not because they rip off songs but because they SUCK!I I’m baffled as to how they, A. Made complete albums, B. Are signed to a major label, and C. How they have managed to sell millions and millions of records. Oh wait, it’s because the world is filled with stupid people, many of whom are between the ages of 14 and 25.

  • Jon

Definitely not a note-for-note rip-off but absolutely a derivative opening riff.

  • no

“IS THE OFFSPRINGS CONSIDERED A GRUNGE BAND FROM THE 1990S? OR JUST POP PUNK?”

I always thought they were considered “alterna-punk”

  • Cathy

Offspring is still a band?? Hmmph…I had no idea..

  • chicago_animal

Not a ripff BUT its still better then having “news” on what Billy Coragan thinks about something or how he thinks the new SP album is gonna be amazing.

  • Millz

Offspring used to write some really great heavy tunes and kick ass. Now they are just treading water and writing filler. I think they are trying to cross over like Green Day, who also used to kick ass but now just plain don’t. Offspring are still a pretty good live show. They have a ton of classic tunes.

  • Gsushc

Its not a lawsuit its a poor imitation.

  • Adam

What does it matter, the songs are both terrible and the foo fighters have been corporate sellouts for years.

  • Cody

@ adam, well said my friend

  • Craigory52

This new Offspring song isn’t a rip-off, but I will say that this isn’t that good for an Offspring song. I know bands evolve and grow but this sounds so poppy just like their last few albums. The good old days of Smash, Ixnay, Ignition, and even Americana seem to be far behind them.

  • Britto

Foo Fighters ripped off Times Like These from “The Heat is On” by Glenn Frey!!!! The sax riff is the same!

    • http://dgsprb.blogspot.com/ D. S. Schneider

Britto says: “Foo Fighters ripped off Times Like These from β€œThe Heat is On” by Glenn Frey!!!! The sax riff is the same!”

      Exactly! =)

  • 2012 MAYAN CALENDAR

I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE THAT THE WHOLE 1990S ALTERNATIVE ROCK MUSIC COMING BACK HASNT BEEN PERFECT IN RECENT YEARS

EVER SINCE AUDIOSLAVE AND VELVET REVOLVER: TWO GUYS IN ROCK MUSIC
CHRIS CORNELL AND SCOTT WEILAND HAVE PROVEN THAT EVEN WITH THE RETURN OF SOUNDGARDEN AND STONE TEMPLE PILOTS : THE MUSIC OF THE PAST ISNT THE SAME ANYMORE. ISNT IT ANY WONDER THAT SOME 90S BANDS HAVE GOTTEN WORST NOW THAN BEFORE?? PEARL JAM, GREEN DAY, SMASHING PUMPKINS AND EVEN THE FOO FIGHTERS HAVE ALL GONE IN STRANGE DIRECTIONS: NOT SOUNDING AS GRUNGE OR PUNK AS EVER, SO ITS NO SURPRISE THAT THE OFFSPRINGS WOULD TRY TO BRING BACK A LITTLE BIT OF THE FOO FIGHTERS TODAY IN 2012. I THINK GRUNGE IS REALLY OVER. IF THERES ANY TRUE PUNK ROCK SPIRIT IN TODAYS GRUNGE BANDS , I THINK ITS OK. THIS IS WHY BILLY CORGAN, SCOTT WEILAND AND CHRIS CORNELL HAVE DONE THEIR SOLO STUFF, TRIED TO BE IN OTHER SUPERGROUPS , BUT THAT DIDNT WORK OUT. PEARL JAM, GREEN DAY AND THE FOO FIGHTERS HAVE GOTTEN SO BIG IN THEIR SONGWRITING , THEY HAVE FORGETTEN THEIR TRUE IDENTITY OF ANGST RIDDEN 90S ALTERNATIVE ROCK BANDS WHO ONCE WROTE MUSIC , YOU CAN GET ANGRY TO AND VENT YOUR FRUSTRATIONS WITH . TODAYS GRUNGE ISNT THE SAME AS YESTURDAYS πŸ™ JUST MORE OF THE COMMERCIAL MEDIOCITY πŸ™‚

  • chicago_animal

I partly agree with 2012. I havent liked anything PJ has done since YIELD, I LOVE the direction the Foos have taken. Green Days American Idiot was amazing but the folow up was a dissapointment. Pumpkins are in the same boat as PJ as they havent put out anything good since the originals split and Billy has become an attention whore.

As for the Supergoups not working out, I totally disagree. Audioslave was huge! They put out great albums and I have a feeling that what they put out will be better with what Soundgarden will release this year.

  • PHATJ

Offspring suck huge dick and monkey balls. This song just emphasizes that.

  • 1990 Coast

Seriously? First of all, The Offspring are fucking unreal…so fuck you pricks who say otherwise. Dexter Holland has a goddammed masters degree writing great meaningful songs like “The kids aren’t alright”. Admitedly in the early stages of Days go by, the song was called “you will find a way and it sounded too much like the Foo’s.

Their new stuff is pretty good considering they are almost 50 years old.

  • Janos

There are a huge number of similarities – not direct copies – between the two. Listen to the style of the guitar riff, the time signature, the vocals in ‘days go by’, listen to ‘times like these’, and then compare it to what earlier offspring music sounded like, I can’t believe the offspring simply pulled this song out of their creative genius without a kick in the brain from ‘times like these’.
First heard this song on the radio in Finland where I live, and I assumed it was some pathetic local band shooting for their 15 minutes at whatever cost. I was caught off-guard when I heard who it was actually by. I used to think the offspring were ok, but this song is not only fantastic in how utterly crap it is, but insulting to anyone who liked them before, anyone who likes the foos, and the foos themselves.
And rock, punk, music, babies, sub-atomic particles etc.

  • Ben

Hey Cody–you’re an idiot….Ice Ice Baby uses a sample of under pressure, very intentionally nnd widely known. You obviously know nothing about music….

  • tim

Yeah, I heard this on the radio and thought “wow, the offspring must be hurting and thought to themselves ‘we need to write a hit…well the foo fighters just won a bunch of grammy’s, let’s just copy their song format…hey, I like that riff to Times Like These, we can do something like that…right?”

The song sounds like when TV shows don’t want to pay the rights to a song so they create a song that sounds close enough to give the “James Bond” theme and feel.

  • tim

oh, and to 1990 Coast…you just admitted they started off with an almost rip off version of the Foo Fighters, then changed it to this just sort of rip off…thanks for the shinfo.

By the way, I don’t care for the Foo Fighters.

  • CJ

Though this isn’t a total rip off, I immediately though of Times Like These when I heard Days Go By for the first time.

  • Billy

I thought this after very first listen. It is still a good song, nonetheless. As cool as Dave Grohl is; I really doubt anything will be made of it.

  • http://youtube.com/spoceania lala

    i love times like these

  • Dave

I’m so glad this was posted, because I thought the same thing…It is without a doubt a rip off…I know people on here will say its not…if you don’t understand why this is a rip off, you dont understand how music and originality works…the structure of the opening riff, and how the first verse comes in, was stolen from Times Like These…and it’s not surprise since this isn’t the first time Offspring has done something like this…the fact that people cant identify how its a rip off is exactly why they will keep getting away with it…its sad

  • Greg Haas

    Whoa! It’s a total ripoff.

  • Kruton

You are exactly right Dave. Any musician should recognize that. It is like using the same chords from sweet child o mine and just jumbling up the lead riff. If it works, it work but its not original.

  • K1

Offspring rips off everyone from the Beatles, Green Day, even Panic at the Disco. What a joke they are. Someone even did a youtube post about it.

  • Herbert

Yep, the main riff(hook)of the offspring’s is exactly the same as the Foo Fighters riff. It is VERY noticeable. Not the whole song of course.

  • Jon

I heard Days Go By for the first time today, and when it came on I thought it was a remix of Times Like These. Was curious if anyone else heard it, but of course, it’s a pretty blatant ripoff.

  • Jon

That said, I used to think Offspring was total bs, and as far as their music goes, that’s true, but there is some originality in their lyrics.

  • Bob

Nobody agrees with me when I say this but the beginning is TOTALLY ripping off it! Pfft.

  • Mark

Main riff, bassline and overall structure is very similar to She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult. Still a good song, I like Dexter’s melody.

  • Todd

Try listening to this offspring song and then listen to the Cult’s “she sells sanctuary http://youtu.be/8I8mWG6HlmU

then the chorus of the Offsprings “get a job” http://youtu.be/sxSEW3sUitA
conpared to the Beatles Chorus of “obla di obla da” http://youtu.be/HPoNH4gidLg

    they are rip offs!

  • John

Structure is a total rip off – first thing I thought when I heard it. But who cares, Offspring aren’t a band to be taken seriously.

  • that guy

the catchy riff is a rip off of the b52’s Roam. just played at a slightly accelerated pace..

  • Dave Brookes

DEXTER FROM THE OFFSPRING HAS A D IN HIS FIRST NAME
DAVE FROM THE FOO FIGHTERS ALSO HAS A D IN HIS FIRST NAME πŸ™‚
    IMAGINE THAT
THEY BOTH RIPPED EACH OTHER AND THEIR BANDS MUSIC AT THE SAME TIME

  • Dave Brookes

    THE FOOFFSPRING

  • Lust

Why is the title of this post in capitals? It looks like local retard Dave Brookes wrote it.
