The Military Wives Choir and Gareth Malone have been crowned as this year’s Christmas number one with their song ‘Wherever You Are’.

The group triumphed over tracks such as Little Mix’s ‘Cannonball’, Lou Monte’s ‘Dominick the Donkey’, ‘Paradise’ by Coldplay and Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ in the race for the festive top spot.

Well, at least a good cause still won in the end. But something to be definitely kept in mind is that because of this campaign, Teen Spirit got higher in the UK charts than when Nevermind was first released!

Maybe if we picked a “good” nirvana song

  • CourtneyLover

Teen Spirit is a “good” Nirvana song, should’ve picked an “awesome” Nirvana song.

  • Maverick785

I’m totally ok with this. Good for them

  • Alec

where did teen spirit end up?

  • yumm

its still amazing that a 20yrd song charted at 11 i think.

  • Dennis

    Agree with yumm.

2011 was the year I was finally able to dust off Nevermind and actually enjoy it again. That is one of the issues with an epic album for me. I listen to it so many times, I reach the point where I need a decade away from it.
