LISTEN TO SONGS FROM NEW GRUNGE INFLUENCED ARTISTS

Kristin sent me this:

Hi, I was just wondering if you would consider covering my facebook page “Spread the word of good newer grunge bands” http://www.facebook.com/pages/Spread-the-word-of-good-newer-grunge-bands/192998060774625 on your site, so that people can start to realize grunge never died, as so far there are over 290 bands, it’s just that people have to start realizing that and looking for the bands, and it would help a ton of really great bands get more support, so people can stop worrying about the mainstream music of today and start to focus on the really great underground, and maybe make that the mainstream one day. I’ve noticed you had a few stories about Noiseheads, which I actually found out about from someone posting them on my page. Thanks.

Kristin also sent me some links to some new bands, here are a few songs.

Dinosaur Pile Up- Mona Lisa

Treetones- Hell-O

Cable35- Saturated

Here’s a rough little demo I myself (Brett) recorded on my iPhone called “Great Escape.” I’m a singer first, still working on getting better on guitar! Then I can work out the music to all my heavy melodies…

Lyrics:

Lord oh could I have a reason
Why she never really cared
Why you ever ask a meaning
Are you ever really scared
Desire fills the lonely cravings
Garden’s full of bitter blood
Feign a smile to hide what’s real now
Hard to pretend there’s something there
Oh now can you change the season
This winter’s lasted everlong
Blissful times they are fleeting
Every day it feels the same
You aren’t a man, you are the man I used to be (x2)
I don’t need friends until the end (x5)
Chase the bottle have no reason
We always seek the great escape
Scared to feel what are you thinking
You always say it’s for the pain
A thousand lies control the sickness
Just convey what’s in your soul
Feign a smile to hide what’s real now
Hard to pretend there’s something there
Lord oh could I have a reason
Why she never really cared
Why you ever ask a meaning
Are you ever really scared?
You aren’t a man, you are the man I used to be (x2)
I don’t need friends until the end (x5)

    Oh god.

I saw Dinosaur Pile-Up live early last year, the put on a good show and I certainly dig their music.

I totally liked the idea of this thread Brett but i’ll be honest, the Treetones and Dinosaur pile up songs are just rehashes of nirvana and silverchair.
That cable35 song was very blah. I think i was expecting a little more diversity since grunge was very diverse with garden,pj,nirvana having entirely diff sounds as an example.

Your song was the best of the bunch and i’m not just blowing smoke up your ass, it for sure needs some finetuning, but it was waaaay better than the other songs. Just be careful the deleo bros don’t come after you for those Creepish lyrics in your chorus lol

bnz you ruined my day… that link leads to some real bad shit

All these groups that are talked about on this website (Soundgarden, Nirvana, PJ, etc.) are all completely influenced by bands from their generation and have at one time or another been compared to them (SG to Led Zep for example).
I think there needs to be some sort of site that caters to promising new and underground rock bands, whether it’s this one or another one. I think more and more young people are looking for newer bands to get into that might be somewhat inspired by these groups, and the word grunge seems to be the most common denominator between these bands we all seem to collectively like.

  • GrungeAttack

    I agree with NickG completely.

I don’t agree 100% as I am on my new meds. And am seeing double and hearing voices that sound like Kurt and Layne singing.

O h OK back to the bands Ah wwwwhhat good bands I guess if you like cover bands. 😉

You guys gotta remember that most 90’s bands drew HEAVY influence from 70’s rock bands. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains sounded like Black Sabbath, STP drew from Aerosmith and Zeppelin, Pearl Jam drew from The Who, etc….

  • Doug

And with that note, Dinosaur Pile Up sounds ****ing awesome, will be buying their album if I ever find it.

    Thanks Brett!

Dude, that’s the whole point. Those were just a FEW of the many, great diverse bands on the page, remember there are over 290, so there’s bound to be several things for everyone. They’re all so diverse just like the old ones were, if you want more metal, more punk, more experimental, more polished and professional sounding, more catchy, or more trashy and raw and garage-like, you can find it on the page, or post other ones you know of. I have all the links in the info of this page. Here’s one from Snake Apartment that is really weird and creative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsKF__ZN2NY

The whole point of the page is for the whole community of grunge lovers to come together and post bands you think are good newer grunge bands, and find some that you don’t know about, so in other words, if you don’t like what’s been posted, put your money where our mouth is an post some yourself. It would be no fun if I was the only one posting anything. Though I’m assuming you thought those three bands were the main ones that were posted, there are TONS already so you are bound to love something.

I hate this new fucking sound that they have, it’s too clean. Where’s the feedback….where are the nuances? Steve Albini just needs to produce every grunge influenced band…Stop trying to sound like the Hives and Okgo….they blow,

Hey Brett where can we listen to your demo, would be sweet to give it a listen
