F’ing great song here. This man just doesn’t stop. Music is life.

    • Billy

ahhhhh i’m at work and can’t listen to it. Is it Higher-truthish or more rockish?

      • Junior Moore

More higher truth…but different. Darker maybe? I can’t explain it lol

        • Billy

awesome! cant wait to hear it later no matter what it is lol

        • Felonious Punk

I wouldn’t say it’s darker, but definitely more produced than the HT stuff.

It’s okay. It sounds like a song written for a movie. Not my favourite thing he’s done, but definitely not the worst.

          • Junior Moore

I wish this has made it on to higher truth to be honest. The more I listen, the more moving the song is for me.

          • Felonious Punk

I gotta ask: Is there any Cornell song(s) you don’t like?

And if you could only pick one Cornell song — solo, SG, AS, TOTD, etc. — as your absolute favourite, which one would it be?

          • name

I know this wasn’t for me but a good question. If you don’t mind me stepping in I would go with ‘When I’m Down’. Top 6 probably:

            1. When I’m Down (solo)
            2. Call Me a Dog (TotD)
            3. Roads We Choose (solo)
            4. 4th of July (SG)
            5. Tighter & Tighter (SG)
            6. I Am the Highway (AS)

          • jcal7

Tighter & Tighter is so fucking awesome

          • Billy

            Shadow on the Sun
            Misery Chain
            Wooden Jesus
            Dead Wishes
            Tighter and Tighter

omg this was too hard. if i think about this for a another second i’m gonna change the whole thing lol
except for Shadow, that is my fave song of all time

          • Felonious Punk

Seriously? Never heard someone call it their favourite ever before

But it’s a great song, no question. That’s one of the reasons I love Audioslave’s first album so much: it’s got so many great songs on it — hell, pretty much all of them, really — that I can look at a song as good as SOTS and say “that’s a great song, and it’s not even my favourite on the album”. I’ve always kind of felt that SOTS, I Am The Highway and Getaway Car form a sort of narrative trilogy on that album.

And then, of course, there’s that righteous scene from ‘Collateral’…

          • Billy

Ya, Shadow just hits everything for me. From just a simple guitar line at the beginning to what i consider are some of his most devestating screams ever at the end. i can just imagine him in the studio, dropping to his knees and just breaking the mic and the amps with that fury.
I`ve been told by numerous friends that i would send multiple wasted voicemails telling them to listen to that song lol
The song just haunts me, it really digs around in the soul. I do prefer Tom`s solo for it on the Civilian demo or live vs. the studio version but it is also a fitting solo because it sounds like a bong rip and that song certainly is elevated in different mental states lol

That first AS album was so good. I remember that it took forever for them to do Getaway car live tho.

          • Felonious Punk

I think most AS fans prefer the Civilian project demos to the album proper. Less embellishment on Chris’s voice from a production standpoint, and on a lot of the instrumentation as well.

That’s one of the reasons I didn’t really care for OOE: it sounded way too produced. Revelations got them back on good course though; that album still knocks.

          • Billy

Turn to Gold/Golden Visions or whatever u want to call it was a crime to leave off the 1st album.
I remember downloading Civilian at an internet cafe because i was going to University full time and living on my own and so i couldn’t afford my own computer. I don’t think that burned cd left my discman for months lol I even burned an extra in case i wore it out.

#1 Zero off of OOE is a killer song. Funny story: When i saw AS in’05 they played #1 Zero and i freaked out and starting jumping around. To my misfortune, there was a super tall guy beside me on the floor and i guess i kinda jumped into him and my glasses got knocked off and broke and it was only halfway thru the set and i missed half of the song trying to find one of my lenses. I can laugh about it now, but i remember panicking because that was the song i wanted to hear most but i was crawling on the ground while ppl were trying to help look or try not to step on me.

          • Felonious Punk

Haha yea, that sucks, dude. Did you ever find your missing lense? I think my favourite track off OOE would be that Dandelion one towards the end. LAte album highlight, and not something I’d expect CC and the dudes from RATM to come up with.

          • Billy

i did find the lens, but was blind for the rest of the show lol

With TTG, the first album would have been the only one it fit on. It is too heavy for the other 2. TTG fits better with sledgehammer songs like gasoline, light my way, bring em back alive. If they re-worked it to match the verses style more, it could haven been on OOE. We got the whip however could have been put on Revelations

          • Felonious Punk

I think it would have been fine on Revelations, but I admit I never really put much thought into it until now, lol

          • Junior Moore

Never cared for Bleed Together, and I don’t really care much for Audioslave. If I had to choose a song as my favorite, it would probably be An Unkind. It changes though.

          • kfahymusic

Ben Shepherd wrote the music and the lyrics to An Unkind.

          • Junior Moore

Yes he did, but it’s still Soundgarden and Chris’s song too. Without Chris’s vocal ability and melodic prowess, this song wouldn’t be nearly what it is.

Matt penned the music and lyrics to Fresh Tendrils, but if you compare his demo to what it became after Chris got a hold of it, it’s just as much Chris’s song too, imo.

If I have to go off strictly credited Cornell written songs…I’ll say Overfloater, but again, it constantly changes for me.

          • Felonious Punk

I’ll never pass up the opportunity to stress how DOTU is my absolute favourite SG album, and how Overfloater is (probably) my favourite song on that album. Switch Opens, Zero Chance and BUTOW come very close too though

Agree with you 100% about Fresh Tendrils, also. That’s one of my faves on Superunknown, and Chris definitely took it to a new level with his input

          • Felonious Punk

LoL we really are two very different Cornell fans, but nothing wrong with that at all. You cherish his solo stuff whereas I think his Audioslave stuff blows his solo stuff out of the water. Bleed Together is probably one of my favourite SG b-sides, too.

And while it;s definitely not my favourite SG song or even close to being my favourite on DOTU, we can both agree that An Unkind absolutely rips!

          • Billy

agree it is not best song ever but a very good song.

i think Chris really wants an oscar lol

          • Felonious Punk

LoL he’s certainly not embarrassing himself anymore with his solo output these days, I’ll say that much. I don’t go into his solo music expecting another Sunshower or Arms Around Your Love. To me, his solo stuff is strictly hit or miss with the occasional bullseye. It’s his stuff with Soundgarden and Audioslave I crave consistency across the board with

          • Billy

            r u saying u don`t like Sunshower

          • Felonious Punk

No no no…Sunshower is one of my favourite songs he’s ever done. I’m saying that songs like Sunshower and AAYL are easily two of his best songs, solo-wise to me.

          • Billy

no love for pillow of your bones, steel rain, silence the voices or disappearing act?
Did u like the song he did with Slash (promise)?

          • Felonious Punk

All those songs you listed are just okay to me, tbh. Disappearing Act is better than his average solo song, I’ll say that. I do like Cleaning My Gun a lot. That one sounds like it could have been an 80’s SG track.

          • Billy

what say u about songs like heaven’s dead, the curse, and there’s nothing left to say but goodbye? Those are songs chris easily could have put on a solo record

          • Felonious Punk

NLTSBG is a good one. Not my favourite on Revelations (that goes to Moth and Until We Fall), but good song on an album full of good songs.

Not real fond of the OOE stuff as a whole, tbh. I’ve talked before about how Be Yourself and Doesn’t Remind Me sound like formulated radio hits that kind of turn me off to that whole album. Dandelion and Heaven’s Dead are my faves on that one, but the rest are just kind of meh to me.

          • Billy

i just referenced those songs because they would have fit on euhporia or carry on. Just trying to understand what the difference is when it comes to the clear Chris songs on AS vs his solo albums.

Chris did Moth with is solo band. im pretty sure there’s crappy youtube footage of it. I am choked they never toured Revelations before disbanding.

        • Billy

          another strong, quality song

    • Ben

The video above is not working but I found a live premiere of the song. Was this a live video or studio take? If it was studio take please hook me up!

      Thanks

  • nomad

It’s ok, but not anything interesting. I just expect better from CC. I keep hoping he’ll write something that has sharp teeth again.

    • Junior Moore

I’m ready for Soundgarden to randomly drop a new song ???? then we’ll have our fix lol

  • John Smith

More new music? Is Chris Cornell trying to catch up with Mark Lanegan’s level of music output? .

  • God

    ehh… Better than Smashing Pumpkins
