Justin Bieber Is A ‘Fan’ Of Nirvana: ‘Kurt Wouldn’t Give Two F***s!’

Photoshop by Alternative Nation contributor Whip

Justin Bieber’s stylist Karla Welch recently spoke to Esquire about Justin Bieber wearing a Nirvana t-shirt to the American Music Awards.

“It’s not the first time he’s worn a Nirvana tee. We just have a nice collection of vintage tees, and then the tee he wore yesterday was actually Jerry Lorenzo’s from Fear of God. Jerry takes vintage tees and re-cuts them.”

Welch continued: “Of course he’s a fan of Nirvana. I think it’s so funny that all these people are up in arms. I’m sure Kurt Cobain would be like – I mean I can’t speak for him, obviously – but I don’t think he was so snotty or that he would diss anyone who appreciated his music. I think he understood that that is like the antithesis of music appreciation.

“It’s so funny. But you know, fans are fans!” she added. “Whatever you want to say about being pop, but I don’t think Kurt Cobain gave two fucks, and I don’t think Justin Bieber does either. You know what I mean?”

Kurt Cobain’s widow Courtney Love had a surprising reaction to Bieber’s shirt: she loved it. Love tweeted, “You’re cool in my book Justin Bieber.” What are your thoughts on Justin Bieber and Nirvana? Should he front a reunion tour? Leave your thoughts in the comments section.

    Dear Karla Welch,

The fact that you have to “style” a 21-year old boy is sad enough, but the fan community isn’t up in arms over the fact that he likes Nirvana. It’s the fact that the way you had him dressed at the AMAs was fucking ludicrous and by proxy made Nirvana look like a joke by having him wear one of their shirts that was cut to look like a fucking gown. On a 21-year old she-male.

Also, Kurt was incredibly outspoken about music he disliked. He trashed bands like Extreme in interviews routinely, and refused to open for Gn’R when Axl requested them because he hated their music.

If he hated Gn’R and Extreme then, I’m confident he wouldn’t think any higher of a 21-year old nancy boy who makes shit music for pre-pubescent boys and girls.

He absolutely fucking loved Pearl Jam though, and why wouldn’t he? 🙂

      • Felonious Punk

My reply was admittedly a little harsh. The Beebs has a right to rock out to whatever he wants just as well as anyone, I suppose. But the fact that he needs a stylist and she makes him look like a goof in those photos is inexcusable.

        • Corndog

Agreed. I thought he looks a bit odd too. They did somethings to the sleeves on that shirt that made it look odd. He kinda looks odd in general, like one of the surrogate bodies from that Bruce Willis movie.

That is the most sensible thing I have seen you write on this site! Very well put!

      • Felonious Punk

        Wrong.

The hatred of femininity is strong with this one.

      • Felonious Punk

It has nothing to do with femininity. I’d trash her even if she was a dude and she was dressing him this way.

        • Jamie Coughlan

You referred to Bieber as a ‘she-male’ and a ‘nancy boy’. One is a derogatory term for a transgender person, the other is a derogatory term for a gay man. Both have connotations of femininity, and suggest that there is something inherently wrong with a male who displays femininity. You use these terms as insults suggesting that you think there is something wrong with transgender people, gay men, and women.

          • Felonious Punk

How do you know I’m not a transgender bi-sexual gay man/woman? Or are you just assuming I’m not?

Do you play the moral conscience angle with blacks who walk around calling each other “nigga” or gays who call each other “fags” and “queens”? What about lesbians who call each other “dykes”?

I’m going to take a wild stab here and say that you don’t, which doesn’t give you much of a leg to stand on as far as criticizing me goes. But in the interest of fair play, I can definitely find many other things to refer to Justin Beebs as.

          • Jamie Coughlan

Can you entertain the thought that you use that language to assert your masculinity and to demean femininity?

I called people ‘fag’ and ‘gay’ when I was younger. I’m pretty embarrassed about that now.

Black and gay minorities use that language in certain contexts in an attempt to reclaim language that has been used to demean them. It is to do with empowerment.

Can you ask yourself why you use language that is derogatory to femininity to describe someone you disapprove of?

P.S. I have never heard a black person call another black person ‘nigga’ or a gay person call another gay person a ‘fag’ or a ‘dyke’ in anger. I have seen it on TV, which, as we all know, is a very accurate depiction of society and culture.

            Peace! 🙂

          • Felonious Punk

I’ll be happy to answer all of that for you. But first I want you to ask yourself how wasting your time preaching to some dude on the internet about picking on Justin Beiber is enhancing your life in any way, shape or form.

Unless making me laugh is your goal. In that case, mission accomplished.

          • Jamie Coughlan

I got bored setting up my Chromecast.

          • Felonious Punk

Ahaha yea, I’m sure that was totally it

“but I don’t think he was so snotty or that he would diss anyone who
    appreciated his music”

She clearly doesn’t know much about Kurt Cobain. He hated a lot of the people that were into his music (jocks, preppies, yuppies). He struggled with it for the rest of his life.

I KNEW that shirt was a stylist pick.

  • halcyon

Justin Bieber wearing a Nirvana t-shirt chosen by a stylist is the ultimate epitome of consumerist culture.

  • Bill Doe

“Should he front a reunion tour?”
    Infidel!!

  • Raj

No one cares that he wore a NIrvana t-shirt or is or isn’t a Nirvana fan. Whip should be fired for photoshopping Bieber’s face on Cobain’s body.

    • http://www.cuntcertfy.nut/ Whip

Fired? I should be HIRED… and paid. Besides the emotional distress that put me through to do that, it was really time consuming and difficult. Could’ve spent another 2 hours and made it perfect, but I also “dont give two f***s!”

  • Patrick Hughes

Justin Bieber sucks. Kurt Cobain was a genius in his own write, literally. Bieber can like whomever, but Bieber can’t hold a candle to Nirvana musically.

  • http://www.gofuckyourself.com/ BestxInTheWorld

I’m more pissed that anyone would sell a Nirvana tee for $1500. That corporate ass raping pricing is just vulgarity. Anyone can wear anyones t-shirt, but Kurt would’ve definitely protested selling merch that expensive being the minimalist he was.

  • Felonious Punk

I’ll bet $100 and one of my AUTHENTIC Nirvana shirts this was nothing more than a paid publicity stunt for that wretched Montage of Dreck Home Recordings bullshit that dropped out UMG’s rectum only days prior.
