    yeah its obviously soundgarden

  • sierena

Tie between the new AIC and the new Soundgarden. I’m a bit more anxious for the new AIC, though.

  • Superunknown

Who the fuck is anxious for PJ!?

  • Superunknown

SP and Lanegan are tied for second for me. AIC third.

  • http://kaboitanduk.blogspot.com/ Kaboi Tanduk

seems the winner is Soundgarden but I choose AIC since this would be their “second” album..

  • Kevin

@Superunknown, I am – do you have a problem with that? PJ hater

  • be

pearl jam go go go! let’s win this damn poll πŸ™‚
    hahahahahaha

  • be

PEARL JAM IS FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ™‚
    FACT

  • greek jammer

Of course Pearl Jam!let’s win this poll like the previous!!!

  • Grungy

Soundgarden is the winner since they haven’t had an album since 96. With that many years how can it not be the most anticipated. AIC is #2. Lol not that kind. Regardless 2012 will either be the start of grunges return or its last breath for some of the legends that started it all.

  • be

Pearl Jam my life and you! πŸ™‚

  • cosmicatomic

Let me guess. If I know anything about the users of this site….the winner is PEARL JAM! Pearl Jam’s 10th album which sounds exactly like all the others is more heavily anticipated than Soundgarden’s first album in 15+ years.

  • Dennis

Since Tool wasn’t on the list, AIC is the choice. πŸ™‚

  • Aaron

PJ gets more hate than any band on this site. It could be an article about Smashing Pumpkins or even Mudhoney and someone will chime in with a shot at PJ. The fact that they’re winning a lot of these polls must show people do like them.

  • Josh

I would say of course Pearl Jam. This year should mark their first new studio album in 3 years, after which the last one was too short. I would also say that I do not think any two of their albums sound alike at all. Additionally, it is much anticipated as it comes off the heels of all this PJ20 stuff from the past year (LO10L, Vs./Vitalogy Reissue, PJ20 book/movie/destination weekend/soundtrack). Or as Vedder seemed to state at the Toronto show they offered as a free download through Google+, the opening salvo of the second half of their careers.

Soundgarden will be much anticipated, but the reality we may end up seeing is that bands break up for a reason, and until they prove themselves, they are still a band that exists more in the past tense. I enjoy Soundgarden as much as the next guy, but given the track record of other bands that chose to wait this long to release an album (STP, GNR, Jane’s Addiction, etc.), my expectations are rather moderate.

  • Me

Oh come on, the most anticipated album is definitely Soundgarden!!!

  • Mia

My most anticipated is definitely Mark Lanegan’s Blue Funeral, his first solo since 2004, since I preordered it like a month ago! But I am also really excited about Soundgarden’s new one, since that is also a long time coming, and I read Kim Thayil was inspired by some psychedelic music for the record which could only mean awesomeness.

  • Andrei

    SOUNDGARDEN

  • RΓΆdeOrm

I would vote for Soundgardens rarities and B-sides wich is yet to be released…
    second choice Pearl Jam!

  • Drg

    @Josh
How about an album that people have been waiting for atleast 15 years?
I get it that a lot of people are PJ fans, but god dayum, a band’s first album in 15 years >>> a band’s first album in 3 years imo

  • bnz

    hey Brett
this should be in your news
    http://icepicksandnukes.com/2011/12/16/setting-the-alice-in-chains-record-straight/

During the past decade, two of the founding members of Alice in Chains – singer Layne Staley and bassist Mike Starr – have died from drug-related causes. In 2001 and 2003, books about Starr and Staley were published. Both books were poorly written, not vetted, and have not undergone any critical review until now….. etc etc
simply sayin: this is the critical review of these books

  • be

    :)PEARL JAM πŸ™‚

  • Dennis

    @bnz
He already posted that awhile back. Check the chains archives.

  • BlownUpWorld

Soundgarden (by far) with a write-in vote for Mudhoney, altho i will be anxious for new AiC and PJ releases too. Not at all Grunge, but i’m also anxious for new Black Sabbath! And would love to hear new Tool & NIN, but not holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

  • Jim2

If you are a grunge fan you got to admit it’s Soundgarden!!!

  • Josh

I can’t argue much with Soundgarden. I am highly anticipating it myself, even if my expectations are moderate as detailed above. But I am looking forward to the Pearl Jam album a little more.

  • windowpane

how can PJ get so many votes. these fanboys will never learn

  • Robert

Soundgarden should be #1 since they haven’t put out an album since 96. AIC could come 2nd and Pearl Jam comes 3rd where they have been releasing album every 2-4 years.

  • just mike

Soundgarden, definitely! How about letting them win just this once, okay?

  • Bama_Grunge

Alice in Chains…. all the way. The most recent album was awesome, so I expect the next one to be outstanding as well.

I voted soundgarden its been 15 yrs. Alice second becuase theyre my favorite band but this aic isnt better than the original soundgarden. So yeah soundgarden and aic a close second cuz this aic is better than most bands with original lineups.

  • tuanonna

    tuanonna votes for mudhoney

  • Paul K

Fuck you all, Mark Lanegan is the best.

  • dennis

Love Pearl Jam but my vote is Soundgarden. Its been 15 years since their last album, never thought this day would come.

Knights of the Sound Table ride again!

  • Elle

Soundgarden and Lanegan tied for me!!

  • Craigory52

Definitely not Stone Temple Pilots. I anticipated their last album so much and it ended being very disappointing. Alice In Chains Black Give Ways To Blue has become one of my favorite albums from them so I am definitely anticipating that one. Of course Soundgarden’s and Pearl Jam album as well….tough one to choose but probably Soundgarden’s. It will be interesting to hear a Soundgarden record that’s new and fresh!

  • drew

    ((((((((((S-O-U-N-D-G-A-R-D-E-N))))))))))))

  • MindRiot132

Agree with Elle, either Lanegan or Soundgarden. I doubt PJ will put something new out next year (I hope I’m wrong). And if someone put a gun to my head, I’d say Lanegan–the man’s never made a bad album. I’m not saying Soundgarden has, but these days I definitely have more faith in Lanegan than I do Cornell. I’m hoping both will be classics, though.

  • Todd

    not even close, SOUNDGARDEN!!!!

  • joe

How can Pearl Jam get any negative comments at all? Their the most consistent rock band of the last 20 years.. the Seattle music scene at this point would be a joke if not for pearl jam. The worst pearl jam concert possible is a better show than 95% of any current rock bands best show. They are the most unpredictable band in the world right now on stage ( ill put PHISH right there with them) They treat and put more effort into their fans 1 trillion times better than any other famous band has ever even attempted too

I never thought I could respect and be affected by a group of musicians like I have… Thank you Stone, Mike, Jeff, Ed and Matt

  • Ben

Definitely Soundgarden. My hope and guess is that it will be my favourite album of 2012.
I probably listen to more PJ then Soundgarden… however I am very very eager to hear new SG album!
    Bring it on!!!!

    1. SG
    2. PJ
    3. Mark Lanegan
    4. AIC (If production isn’t screwed)

  • matt

None of these. Queens of the stone age.

Pearl Jam has been lame and boring since 1994..

  • TastesGrungey

^ Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

  • bnz

    PJ- 1st…. ??????! PLEASE, BITCHES….

  • ed

Voted Pearl Jam to piss you off.

In general, Soundgarden is the most anticipated but it’s Alice for me. I’ve always liked AIC much more than SG.

  • greek jammer

21 years of unstoppable music without Timbaland…one of the best bands in the world with love to their fans and not only for the money…PEARL JAM for ever and ever!!!

  • Josh

I would hardly call Pearl Jam boring since 1994…since that time they’ve done an album with Neil Young, released No Code (my favorite of theirs) which threw everyone for a loop – good or bad, released Yield – which included the Todd McFarlane video for Do the Evolution which was the first video since 1992, released the Last Kiss single (love it or hate it) with 100% of the proceeds going to Kosovo refugees that went to #2 on the singles chart, released Binaural with a new producer, released 72 live albums within 3 months of each other to big box retailers, released Riot Act with yet another new producer featuring the controversial Bushleaguer single (yes, it was a single) that got them booed in Colorado and Long Island, released Lost Dogs (b-sides) and Rearviewmirror (greatest hits), released a self-titled album primarily produced and released by themselves, released Backspacer as a Target AND indpendent retailer exclusive with Brendan O’Brien back at the production helm for the first time in 11 years, re-issued Ten, Vs., and Vitalogy – released nearly every show they’ve played since 2003 through their fan club for purchase at 1/5th of the price it costed fans to buy bootleg CDs, and did that whole PJ20 thing this year…oh, and they managed to tour the world something like 10 times over. Boring.

  • Josh

…they also arranged for 3 reunions of Temple of the Dog on their stage, played Madison Square Garden 8 times, closed out the Spectrum, played the LA Forum, played at the Gorge (released a Box Set about that), and played countless benefits from the Bridge School to Vote for Change and them some…should I keep going or is this boring?

  • Maurica

^^^LMAO at this guy actually thinking he’s proving some kind of a point. He didn’t say they weren’t active, he said they were BORING. Boring music comepletely overrides the 1,000 activities that they’ve done from 94′ until now. hahaha.

  • Brett

    Josh, I love you

  • Josh

I actually did prove some kind of point, unless it is you only read the last part. I focused on the music releases and the fact that they elicited reactions (either very positive or very negative) over the past 17 years. You can dislike the music all you want, but the point was it caused a lot of reactions, which by definition makes it not boring. So keep LMAO while you LOL and TTYL…my point is simple that neither they nor their music has been boring since 1994.

  • Maurica

The main point in which YOU being the only person who missed it was that HE finds this band and their music boring. Saying why YOU think they aren’t and naming 20 different (boring)albums that they’ve released isn’t really making a point, now is it. You’re still not proving why the music isn’t boring. Thus, no RELEVANT point has been made on your part. LOL!

  • Josh

    nevernamed said:
Pearl Jam has been lame and boring since 1994..

That is not the same as “I personally think Pearl Jam’s music has been lame and boring since 1994.”

So the items I have pointed out, which have mostly generated a range of reactions from a wider audience, point to the fact that you can have any opinion you want, but boring would not really be an appropriate adjective to use when describing Pearl Jam’s career post 1994. LMAOLNMOP.

  • Maurica

Lol ok. Regardless of your excuses, the band has been considered boring by more than just nevernamed. So, obviously you’re missing something. Maybe your love for this band is blinding you? Whatever the case may be, again, simply listing every activity of the band from 94′ until present time doesn’t change the fact that people still consider them boring. It shouldn’t have to be specifically pointed out to you or any other fan that when someone refers to a band as “boring,” it’s probably referring mostly to their music. Common sense Josh, common sense. smh. πŸ™‚

  • Aaron

What is your problem Maurica, this a grunge site, remember! This isn’t a Soundgarden site or an Alice in Chains site or what not – it is a grunge site so the hate and contempt for Pearl Jam is ridiculous. Kudos to you and nevernamed that you don’t care for PJ but a lot of people do. They were voted the best band of the 1990s (that means the whole decade) in a USA Today poll. If you can’t find something good off Yield, No Code or Lost Dogs then is something wrong with you.

You don’t like the change in their musical direction/style…fine but don’t classify it as boring. Boring represents sameness or stagnation to me…something PJ isn’t!

  • Maurica

^^Such anger over one persons opinion of a band? Lol. It’ll be ok dude, you love Pearl Jam and others find them boring.
