FANS RIP & PRAISE SCOTT WEILAND'S SHOW IN LOS ANGELES, MORRISSEY IN ATTENDANCE & WEILAND REVIEWS THE HOBBIT

Go to STPfans.com to discuss STP.

Scott Weiland kicked off the latest leg of his Purple at the Core tour last night in Los Angeles at the House of Blues Sunset Strip. It was his first live performance since Chester Bennington replaced him as lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots. Former Smiths frontman Morrissey was in attendance at the show in the VIP section.  Weiland reviewed the 2012 film The Hobbit on stage.  Weiland’s excuse for showing up late to a concert a few months ago was that he was watching The Hobbit.  Weiland showed up 15-30 minutes after his scheduled start time (there are conflicting reports on this, I’d consider this timely for Scott) last night (9:15PM). Fans have been reacting positively and negatively to the show. I’ll be editing more feedback as it comes in, as I have been. When I first published this story when the show concluded just about all of the Twitter feedback had been negative and I’d received an e-mail trashing the show. As more feedback has come in I’ve edited the headline and added in positive feedback.

A fan named Justin tweeted me saying he left the show early because of how terrible it was, he then e-mailed me further thoughts:

I was excited to see Scott with all this stp drama going on, just lookin forward to hearing those classic hits. Had more of a country feel than anything, Scott was so off key sounded terrible, I could barely recognize any stp songs, crackerman was awful. You cannot replace the Deleo brothers! Not to mention he was a half hour late! Totally ruined the experience. Walked out after the fifth song, his solo stuff is just shit. Very disappointed.

He said “the first word in the movie the hobbit is hullo, the first word, H-U-L-L-O” then he was talking about the venue and he had no idea what he was saying, something about the lighting being good, he was definitely on something.

@Philip_Cosores tweeted:

Weilands first speech of the night was a critique on The Hobbit film vs book

Scott does not know the words to Creep

Weiland covering Mountain Song. Decent karaoke rendition

I can’t believe Scott Weiland is still playing. LA Woman for like 10 minutes.

No Mr Weiland, I don’t think I want to go to your after party

@dannyseason tweeted:

I now understand why @stonetemplepilots fired Scott Weiland. His voice sounds horrible and his band looks disinterested in playing with him.

‏@VivoEstSomnio tweeted:

Shows over. It was fantastic. Even though Weiland announced to everyone where the after party was, I have work tomorrow – and I like living.

Stone Temple Pilots perform tonight in Los Angeles with new frontman Chester Bennington, along with Weiland’s former Velvet Revolver bandmates Slash and Duff McKagan.

Andrew Reyes commented:

Just got back from the show….most of those comments are BS. House of Blues tweeted that he was scheduled to go on at 9:15…I got in at 9:27 exactly and they were already on stage doing their jam intro. His voice sounded really good but they played the demo versions of a lot of the older songs (hence why they sounded different). His chatting into the mic is always random but he was clearly sober (or at least hardly showing drunkness) and had a ton of energy. Also to the idiot that said Weiland’s solo stuff is shit, he only played one song. The rest were deep cuts from core. It was obvious most of the audience there only knew the radio hits. Seen Weiland 4 times now, and this was definitely not a bad show at all.

MarissalynFX tweeted:

I could’ve cried happy tears when @ScottWeilandSTP sang LA Woman. #nightmade

tripzz tweeted:

Amazing @ScottWeilandSTP @HOBSunset .He is a rock star . Stp without him or the chester hype is just another good. Band. crawl back to scott

yeah, i’m done supporting weiland in this whole spheal.

  • Mills

I will not be going to his solo show in Scottsdale AZ this friday at the casino. I don’t like to waste my money on sub par performances from once great 90’s rock stars who have tarnished their own image and wasted their talent all in the name of more drugs.

  • Diper

30 minutes late? Poor bastards in the audience…

  • ROBERT PLANT

Hes got problems. This is when he needs his family and friends the most…Babe.

  • jt

30 minutes late? That’s an hour early for him

  • keep this

‘the keeper’: are you paying attention to this? Thank you.

…If afterward you’re still obstinate, it’s obvious you work for Weiland’s publicity team and nothing more. Fighting a steep uphill battle to spin him in a positive light.

scott simply looks like a ‘washed up’ liam gallagher, from oasis.. I saw stp and vr in birmingham, and the fuckin’ show sucked ass… he was soooo fucking strung out, he couldn’t remember the lyrics, and if slash didn’t walk out, and save his ass, I would have walked out much sooner….. STP was good, they are just a MEMORY now.. RIP ‘Core’

  • Brett Buchanan

Thanks Andrew, edited your comment and some more tweets in (and modified the headline)

  • the keeper

    Hey “keep this”,

I never said Weiland’s current state is good. All I am saying is without him STP is not STP

They should either change the name or pack it in. I am in agreement that Weiland is a shadow of his former self but in that case there shouldn’t be an STP in existence then, let alone a shitty singer like Chester

  • PiE

    wow…just 30 minutes late?
did he just watch a Community episode this time?

  • Chris Cornhole

    Scotty Don’t!

  • Dan

I thought the concert was great. He played for almost 2 hours. Unglued, LA Woman, Dead and Bloated, Kitchenware and Candybars, and Creep were especially good.

You can’t trust positive Weiland reviews anymore. Some people just seem to drink the Kool Aid and consider anything Weiland does is great. Every time someone posts a positive Weiland review the YouTube videos show a different reality, almost exclusively.

  • Andrew Reues

Billy L, A. I would argue the same thing about negative SW reviews. A lot of people go to the shows and just trash him to trash. B. If you go to a SW show ( or STP in the last 10 years for that matter) and expecting him to sound like he did on Core its noting going to happen. He’s been singing way higher since SLDD. C. Youtube videos are usually unreliable since there is so much BG noise and it really depends where you are in the crowd. I got there right as SW went on so I was off to the left and towards the back. Nice clear angle for the speakers to reach me. I was also not drinking so I feel pretty confident that my review is at least truthful from my point of view. Everyone’s opinion is different but in the age of trolls, I am way more weary of reviews that just crap on a performance ( of anyone) than I am of a positive review.

  • Purplecore

Does anybody else want to know what Morrissey thought of the show?

  • bmeade

All I care about is Morrissey’s opinion. He has amazing opinions.

  • Big M

Morrisey huh? Never would have pegged him as a grunge fan but that gives him more points in my book.

  • Nick

If people think 30 minutes late is a big deal they must be new to concerts. I have been to nearly 500 concerts and more than half of them the actual headliner comes on late.

  • Ben

I’ve always hated that photo of him above. Look how awful he looks. The years of destroying his veins and body are written all over his face and dead eyes…

  • Bonnie Stephenson

Hey, leave Scott alone! The man has obviously had it rough out there, maybe through his own actions, but still pretty rough! Scott Weiland is an icon in the Grunge world and always will be. Why does everyone expect so much from rockstars anyway? They are people just like us and they age horribly, just like us! Let the man be, for God’s sake! If you don’t like his music, don’t go to his shows! How is that for a no brainer?
