A short clip of Deftones’ collaboration with Alice In Chains singer/guitarist Jerry Cantrell on a song on their new album Gore has surfaced online. The band have also released the album’s lead single “Prayers/Triangles.” Listen to the clip of the Cantrell collaboration and the single below.

Prayers/ Triangles Lyrics interpretation:

there’s a new strange…
godless demon awake, inside me

theres a force divine
terrorizing the angels i keep

while we dream…

prayers (prayers)
laid on the line (layed on the line)

you will never be free
you will never be free

i’m a true slave
to the fire and the air… around you

while this curse divine
it slowly rotting away inside me
while we dream

prayers (prayers)
laid on the line (layed on the line)

you will never be free
you will never be free

triangles (triangles)
placed in your mind (placed in your mind)

you will never be free
you will never be free

beware x4

i will never walk this street again!
the only time i feel im not alone!
i pull my heart out, i waved it in the air!

prayers (prayers)
laid on the line

you will never be free
you will never be free

triangles (triangles)
placed in your mind (placed in your mind)

you will never be free
you will never be free

prayers! (prayers)
triangles! (triangles)
prayers!

you will never be free
you will never be free

i will never walk this street again!
the only time i feel im not alone!
i pull my heart out, waved it in the air!
i pull my heart out… beware!

This Deftones album is going to absolutely crush. I didn’t listen to P/T because I don’t want to spoil anything before album release day. I did buy the limited edition 180gr vinyl LP from their webstore though.

These next two months are going to drag by..

Meh, kinda basic and boring after first minute or so. Interested in hearing how the Jerry collab turns out.

Good stuff to rock out to for a change! I’m appreciating Deftones more and more these days! Hard Rock will make a comeback in the next few years, the pop cycle has to end eventually!

Short clip with Jer is very Chains-ish as far as weird and slightly disturbing visual. I also hear AIC-type vocal harmonies early and late in Prayers/Triangles, along with some Robert Smith-ish guitar. Sounds promising. Flying flamingoes are trippy, too.

I’m seriously having a hard time *not* listening to the P/T clip

Knowing Deftones, P/T is just a good introductory track for the album, and probably the most “Deftones” sounding thing on the album. They do this with most of their albums. They’ll release a first single that draws people in with a sound that’s familiar, and then the album will be unlike anything they’ve done yet, in the best ways possible.

When they released KNY in 2012, ‘Leathers’ was the first single. It’s a great song and very Deftones-sounding, but it was nowhere close to being the best thing on the album, or even representative of KNY as a whole. I’m just thrilled to hear there’s going to be more of a new wave-vibe on Gore. They’ve been toying with that idea for years and I’m anticipating mind-blowing results..
