Dave Lombardo’s Philm Announce Tour Dates

Although he’s best known for revolutionizing heavy metal drumming as a member of Slayer (he played on Reign in Blood, fer cryin’ out loud!), Dave Lombardo is by no means a one-dimensional drummer, as evidenced by his work with Grip Inc., Fantômas, and also, Philm. The latter group issued their sophomore full-length, Fire from the Evening Sun last year, and have just announced a worldwide headlining tour (dates listed below).

Although the band contains some unmistakable metal elements in their sound, there are also bits of alternative rock, experimental, jazz, and Middle Eastern sounds – quite an admirable feat in an era where quite a few metal bands seem to be content merely copying others.

I also had the opportunity to chat with Mr. Lombardo twice recently for the BraveWords site, the first interview dealing primarily with Philm, the second interview focusing on relations between the US and Cuba (as Lombardo’s family hail from Cuba).
