DAVE GROHL ON FOO FIGHTERS’ FUTURE: “I DON’T KNOW WHEN WE’RE GONNA DO IT AGAIN”

Here is an update to our Foo Fighters’ taking a break from live shows story.  Dave Grohl said the following at the Global Festival last night regarding Foo Fighters’ future, according to KROQ:

”Without making a big deal out of it, we don’t have any shows after this… honestly, I don’t know when we’re gonna do it again.”

  • Linda Jones

    We can wait, rest up.

  • John D

They’re legends and really don’t have to prove anything or answer to anyone. Dave deserves more respect as a tremendous hard-rock front man, best currently in the business in my opinion. When all the greats of his era like Vedder and Cornell have declined tremendously in vocal power and stage intensity, Grohl continues to shine! I thought the last album was their finest…how many bands can you say that 17 years into their career?

  • Mom in the Box

Kinda bummed out….they never came close to my area on the Wasting Light tour. I’m sure they need a break.

  • CagedTiger

Hopefully this means they’ll stop playing that fucking ‘one of these day’s’ song on the radio 3 times a day now and we can forget about this overrated band for a while and concentrate on more important things like the new Soundgarden album.

  • Shayaan

They’ve been touring for Wasting Light for almost 2 years now right? The Foos have more than earned a break.

  • Spoonman

@John D well he was never anywhere near the vocalist of cornell or vedder so i mean yeah he didnt drop off but its not like he was ever that good anyway

  • Andy

he’s got plenty of things on his plate coming up, I’m sure…

  • Jack Irons

Vedder has hit the wall harder than Janice Dickinson…

His voice is distroyed from the cartons of cigarettes he smokes a day. It was soooo painful to watch the PJ20 interviews while he’s sucking down cigarettes like candy. UGH. He sounds like Kathleen Turner.

WHO the fuck would pay $100 a head to listen to him sing anymore???

It makes sense they are doing anythihng & everything for money now, who’s gonna pay to see them when Ed’s singing out of a tracheotomy?

  • Smokey-Hell Nelson

Go and record another Them Crooked Vultures album before Josh goes and tours the new QotSA album and you get too deep into the documentary Dave!!

  • cosmicatomic

So what’s Dave gonna do? Hopefully make another Them Crooked Vultures album. If that’s the case, then it’s great news because I think Foo Fighters are decent, but TCV were legendary.

  • Jim2

CagedTiger is right. Besides a few songs like Wheels or The pretender, they really were nothing special. I never understood all the fuss about them.

  • Spoonman

the pretender was sweet, ill give them that. but i just dont dig anything else. maybe im just listening to all their worst songs..but yeah that one of these days songs is so shitty and its a great example of the shit lyricist grohl is

  • Chris Krist Cantrell

Grohl is being dramatic. OH NO I dont know when we’re gonna do it again…like they’re going away. It’s called vacation/hiatus/whatever after touring a lot it’s what EVERYONE does. LMAO. Nice drama, Grohl.

  • http://www.nonexistentreality.blogspot.com Scott McLean

I like TCV but like Foo Fighters more, and I bought both Wasting Light CD and Them Crooked Vultures CD. I like Dave’s singing better than the TVC singer and that’s just an opinion, I guess.

  • The Garden of Sound

Jesus Christ (Pose)…please Mayan would you just have a normal dialogue with someone for once instead of trying to be funny? Cmon man! You can do it!

  • Anth

I totally agree that the band deserves a break, but Dave is a workaholic. He always says this sort of stuff at the end of a tour/album cycle and then a couple months later we’re hearing about his newest project, whether it’s with the Foos or not. I remember reading how, after all the touring behind In Your Honor, the band was supposed to take a two-year break, but they had an entirely new album, like, a year later.

Not undermining his statement by any means or even accusing him of crying wolf, but I think he tends to get overwhelmed and then once he’s had time to recharge, he’s too restless to truly take an extended break. And that’s what’s great about him.

  • Dreux

Wasting Light was a solid rock album, and Foo Fighters hadn’t made one of those since The Colour and the Shape. I like the Foo Fighters. I think they are a respectable band with at least some level of integrity, and Dave Grohl is still a great songwriter. I just never saw them as one of “the greats”. When you have seven albums and only three of them are really memorable, with some memorable tracks spread across the forgettable four, you’re not a lame band by any means (TCATS is still a fantastic album), nor are you one of “the greats” either.

  • The Garden of Sound

    I miss you dreux.

    love,
the artest formerly known as SuperSG not Ron.

  • CagedTiger

I actually quite liked the first album when it was released but other than a few songs here and there (The Pretender, On The Mend, Monkey Wrench and Everlong) I thought their other releases were very generic sounding and severely overrated. I guess this band blew up and gained mainstream popularity because they’re pop-rock and have very radio friendly songs but you could hardly call any of them timeless classics could you… Does anyone here actually still listen to songs like ‘Break Out’ and ‘Learn To Fly’ now??

  • The Garden of Sound

I listen to for the cows.

  • John

How did this turn into a Foo Fighters bashfest? These guys aren’t in my top favorite artists, but come on. If you can’t enjoy their music because it’s on the radio all the time, then you shouldn’t listen to majority of the popular bands on this site. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and STP are constantly being played on the radio. And they’re playing the same songs from 20 years ago. I swear, the people here complain about EVERY single band, except for the ‘untouchable’ Soundgarden.

  • Spoonman

@john, its not because their music is played on the radio, its because their music is radio rock as in designed to be played on the radio, big difference

  • The Garden of Sound

Well John, we have been waiting for a new album from Soundgarden for 16 years. Oh, and most of us are probably showing our gratitude for them even being back at all.

*BREAKING NEWS* “I, the Garden of Sound/formerly known as SuperSG, am dissapointed with Been Away Too Long”!!! *A comment that was negative concerning Soundgarden???* SOMEBODY ALERT JOHN!!!

  • John

I’m not entirely sure if their music is “designed to be played on the radio” or if that’s just the kind of music Dave Grohl writes, because I’m not a huge fan of the band. However, I do know that I’m going to enjoy certain types of music, whether it’s ‘designed for radio’ or not. I’m not going to let the merits of the Foo Fighters’ songwriting determine whether or not I like their music. Honestly, I wouldn’t even be commenting if people were a little more positive around here. I mean, Christ, why are people hating on talented bands that are covered here instead of hating on music that deserves to be bashed? I see an overwhelming amount of people come on and talk shit about virtually every band here, and frankly it’s baffling to see on a site that covers “Grunge” music.

Honest question here: Is there any band on this site that people actually like?

  • The Garden of Sound

    good question!

  • John

And quite frankly, Super SG/Garden of Sound, I could give a shit less about you or what you have to say. You’re as obnoxious as Mayan simply because you never fail to chime in when I mention Soundgarden, even when I’m not really bashing them. If you actually read between the lines, you’d realize I’m trying to make a point, and not trolling.

NEWSFLASH – I’m a big Soundgarden fan and own most of their albums.
    ZOMG!! Alert Super SG!

  • Spoonman

i LOVE soundgarden stp and aic and never have said anything negative about any of them. and supersg i cant believe you dont like been away too long. i dont wanna know why or anything i just surprised

  • The Garden of Sound

I bet if Mayan was banned, this site would keep its rising amount of traffic, but the conversations and mood would be better.

John hit the nail on the head with the Mayan making the site a trash throwing competition thing.

  • John

Extra added point before I was rudely interrupted: Obviously, I don’t mean that EVERYONE on this site hates on everyone and everything. I’m just talking about what I’ve generally seen around every comment section.

  • The Garden of Sound

Ive played it 56 times on my Ipod in the past 4 days. My buzz sorta wore off…oh and i wanna hear “Worse Dreams” and “By Crooked Steps/or/Rowing” sooo badly right now that anything else just seems not as great as I usually think it is… tis all.

  • The Garden of Sound

Ummm, I knew youd make a comeback of that sort John.

Yeah I do like to chime in. Am I as annoying as Mayan in most peoples eyes? I doubt it.
In yours? Well, at least I have the common courtesy unknown by Mayan to say Im Sorry.

  • The Garden of Sound

Oh, Wait a minute Johnny Boy! I never ever thought you were a troll at all! Im simply a over-reactive SG fanboy! Dont take anything I say personally, because I honestly never found you in an act of trolling, and I never wish to be a troll or caught in the act myself.
    Truce?

  • Spoonman

by crooked steps is gonna be killer

  • The Garden of Sound

    Well John? Whaddya say?

*extends hand forward in a gesture of apology and reconciliation*

  • MAYAN CALENDAR 2012

I RESPECT ROCK MUSIC :) I REALLY DO
BUT WHEN ITS GOING TO HELL , I CANNOT RESPECT THE PEOPLE WHO WONT MAKE IT BETTER OK??

I HAVE TOLD YOU HOW SOUNDGARDEN SHOULD BE
NOW ITS UP TO YOU TO SPREAD THE WORD, OK??

SOUNDGARDEN AND CHRIS CORNELL NEED TO RETURN TO THEIR ROOTS GOT IT??

  • Dayvan Cowboy

THIS JUST IN: Kim Thayil IS MAYAN CALENDAR 2012….

  • http://www.nonexistentreality.blogspot.com Scott McLean

Foo Fighters have been very successful!

  • bon3z

foos are like … a band for 12 yr old girls, GO MAKE ANOTHER CROOKED VULTURES ALBUM! THEY ROCKED!

  • CagedTiger

Bands I like that are covered on this site:

    Nirvana
    Stone Temple Pilots
    Alice In Chains
    Pearl Jam
    Soundgarden
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Filter
    Faith No More
    Jane’s Addiction

I can assure you that none of these bands get played on the radio where I live, even when they release a new single unlike Foo Fighters, their new songs get overplayed and even the old ones like ‘Breakout’ and ‘Learn To Fly’ get AirPlay. Let’s face it, radio and teenage girls love that band because they make simple pop rock radio friendly music… I’m not even hating, it’s worked for them, I’m just explaining why some of us think they’re overrated, especially in comparison to the other bands featured on here.

  • Andrei

They’ll probably take a 2 year off hiatus from the band and then regroup and start writing a new album, like the Chili Peppers did.

So I wouldn’t be surprised if we won’t have new FF material until 2015-2016.

  • rory selvey

Its a real disappointment but Grohl has two kids and a wife, and it’s understandable that he wants to be at home. But read this:

“I’m an early riser. I’m a bad sleeper. I usually go to sleep with my wife. She falls asleep, and I go straight into my little Pro-Tools studio and start recording riffs. I’ll be up until three-thirty, and then I go to bed and I start waking up at six-thirty or seven o’clock. So it’s rare that I get more than six and a half hours of sleep. I just can’t do it. And I wake up all night long, too. And I’m a crazy, vivid dreamer. I love that, man. It’s exercising the imagination. My fucking mind’s on overdrive all night long and then it shuts down; it backfires like a car, and you have all this crazy shit going on in your head. I think that’s why night time is the right time for making music, because your brain has been conditioned to be at its most imaginative.”
I’m sure Dave will be writing, recording and doing all sorts, we’ll just wait and see!

  • Dutchprins6

Imagine this: PJ and SG go on tour together and Dave takes over Matt’s sticks for a couple of songs…. would’nt that be the coolest you ever saw?
