Rumored Guns N’ Roses North American Stadium Tour Dates

The latest Guns N’ Roses rumors on MyGNRForum from Eddie Money indicate that the following GNR 2016 tour dates are in the works.

Dallas – May
San Francisco – May
Foxborough, MA (Gillette Stadium) – Early August
Chicago, IL (Solider Field – 2 shows on July 4th weekend
Toronto – July 16th with option for second show on July 17th

He also recently posted:

“Izzy is in for sure. My source didn’t say anything about Matt Sorum and said that there is still discussion about having Adler be a part of the tour on some level. They didn’t say that Sorum would not be involved though.”

“[Izzy will] not [play] the entire show as far as I know.”

“[Steven] is not rehearsing with them but it doesn’t mean that he’s excluded completely. Honestly, I haven’t heard one way or the other.”

“There’s an oversight management team and then each principal member (Axl, Slash, and Duff) have a representative on a committee, and there is also a forth person to look out for the interests of the unrepresented participants (Richard, Dizzy, and Izzy, Tracy, Roberta, Teddy Zig Zag, etc).”

Guns N’ Roses’ classic “Welcome to the Jungle” was featured in a new Taco Bell commercial on Sunday. Taco Bell wrote, “Bigger than drones? Man buns? Those weird hoverboard things you see people riding all over the place? With delicious, melty pepper jack cheese inside the shell, the Quesalupa might just be bigger than everything.”

This ties in to Axl Rose’s tweeted on January 1st proclaiming that he loved Taco Bell. “The only thing I know “confirmed” is my LOVE of Taco Bell! Mmmmm…. Taco Bell!! Happy New Years!!”

Guns N’ Roses continue to stir and increases the frenzy of their fans to announce a date more in North America with the addition of a concert at the forum sol de Mexico city scheduled for 19 April 2016. The Pre-sale Banamex begins at 11 am on 8 February and ends on 9 February at 10 pm. The General sale will begin on Wednesday, 10 February at 11 am through the system Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.mx. members of Nightrain, the official fan club of Guns N’ Roses will be notified in advance in order to have the opportunity Buy tickets at a special pre-sale.

Guns N’ Roses members Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan have released a statement mocking people like Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, and Andrew Dice Clay for taking credit for their reunion.

“Guns N’ Roses would like to respectfully thank the many people taking credit for our upcoming shows and everything in between. Especially those whom we haven’t spoken to in numerous years who, through the power of media, have somehow served a pivotal, even if non-existent role. We, and the fans thank you! #GnFnR.”

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler discussed Guns N’ Roses’ reunion on The Howard Stern show recently. When asked if he was responsible for the reunion, he had the following quotes:

“I’m sure I’m not solely.”

“I ran into Axl [Rose] at a club a year or two ago and told him he’s crazy, we all miss them, and he needs to get the band back together.”

“If they didn’t get back together soon they would have missed their window and no one would have cared in 3 or 4 years.”

“People love Axl with the original band, they love him on his own but they want to see him with the original guys.”

“I said the same things to Axl that everyone said to me when me and Joe Perry were fighting.”

“Guns N Roses music was part of the fabric of all people.”

When asked about the animosity in GNR:

“I get the whole thing, I can’t talk about it. But they’re talking and they got an offer. I hope Axl can see the greater picture and not be mad at Duff and Slash.”

Howard asked if the beef was similar to the riff that tore apart Aerosmith, asked jokingly if one of the band members slept with another ones wife or something?

Steven said it was deeper then that. But the world needs to hear their music and they’re talking to each other again.

Alice In Chains Announce First 2016 Show, Soundgarden Members Attend Black Sabbath Concert

Alice In Chains, Slipknot, Hollywood Vampires, Five Finger Death Punch, Marilyn Manson, Breaking Benjamin, Rise Against Bullet For My Valentine, Skillet, Queensryche, All That Remains, Scott Stapp, and others will perform at Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin on July 14-16, 2016. This is Alice In Chains’ first announced concert of 2016.

Alice In Chains’ publicist informed Alternative Nation a couple of weeks ago that Jerry Cantrell was ‘totally fine’ after an emergency room visit last night. Cantrell underwent a ‘minor outpatient procedure.’

Cantrell was set to perform at ‘Dimebash’, a tribute to Pantera’s Dimebag Darrell, but canceled last minute due to an emergency room visit, with Dave Grohl replacing him. Proceeds from the event were slated to benefit the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

Robb Flynn of Machine Head told the Lucky Strike Live Crowd the following, according to Blabbermouth: “Jerry Cantrell and I have been rehearsing this song all week. Jerry Cantrell was supposed to be with us. He went to the emergency room, unfortunately, tonight, couldn’t be here. This song’s gonna go out to him. Dave Grohl was nice enough to fill in for him.”

Richard Patrick Talks Make America Hate Again: ‘It’s A F**k You To Trump For Trying To Alienate Brown People’

From achieving commercial success in the mid-late 90’s with platinum selling hit songs “Hey Man, Nice Shot” and “Take A Picture”, Richard Patrick is not shy, yet humble and confident when speaking in preparation of Filter’s 7th studio album release, “Crazy Eyes” on April 8th 2016. Upon my invite to their NYC album listening party, hosted by Matt Pinfield, Patrick discussed the pre-Filter days as guitarist “Piggy” in Nine Inch Nails to his latest role as head record producer as well as a musician’s approach to an ever-changing lineup.

In explaining Patrick’s ‘break-the-rules’ style of writing, recording and producing, our interview would delve even deeper into his detest of modern-day political & mass-media corruption. What he believes Filter fans desire is the essential return to a non-radio friendly, angry-era that earned Filter its initial mainstream rock success. As Filter prepares for their “Make America Hate” Tour with Orgy, Vampires Everywhere & Death Valley High, I was on hand to learn the very latest in the world of Mr. Richard Patrick.

With your 7th full length record set for an April 8th release, what has your mindset been like during the course of the recording process and currently with its completion?

Patrick: “To speak up and stand by my guns the entire time…To stand by my methodology. That’s why I kind of made myself the producer. I worked with a lot of different, amazing people, but I was always like, “Dude, I’m sorry, you’re going to have to trust me, we’ve got to do it this way!”

With your recent statement regarding the musical direction of your upcoming album “Crazy Eyes,” you were quoted in stating, “The reason this record is so fucking heavy and strange is it’s exactly the opposite of what’s popular. It’s not pretty. It’s not cute. It’s real.”

With that being said, what influences you from a creative standpoint to go against the grain, musically speaking?

Patrick: “You just have to follow your own heart. I listen to so many different kinds of music and at the end of the day you want to make a record that you’re super proud of. I’m not a 22- year-old kid with a pretty smile. I don’t want to make it in the music industry like he does. I want to fuckin’ make something that’s artistic and reflective of my thinking or our generation’s thinking. You know, we live in a crazy time. Every other week, there’s a school shooting. There’s always some nutty thing and I’ve always wanted to kind of understand the crazy…When you turn on the news, they don’t say, “Hey, 2 Million kids went to school safely today…40,000 flights took place without incident.” They don’t say that. For me, we’re all comfortable, we’re all happy, hopefully, but at the same time something will happen and you have to kind of understand that phenomenon. You have to understand what’s going on and I’ve always been fascinated by craziness and lunacy. ‘Crazy Eyes’ was just the most logic answer and I know it’s a good title because a lot of people didn’t really get it and I was like, “Well, let me explain.” That’s what I walk away with from this whole experience.”

Filter is set to kick off its forthcoming US tour, “Make America Hate Again,” Featuring Orgy, Vampires Everywhere and Death Valley High. With such a bold tour title to that of “Make America Hate Again,” where do you feel America currently stands in terms of political correctness, from an international standpoint and where are we headed as a country?

Patrick: “It’s kind of like a warning; it’s kind of like the old, extreme right-wing rhetoric that pulled Hitler to power. He found a group of people that he could blame everything on and he had tons of money when he wrote Mein Kampf. When he became chancellor, every person that joined the Nazi party had to get this book and it made him like a super, rich man. I just see Trump as being the next guy. I just see him as being someone that will say anything to get in office. One minute he hates Megyn Kelly, but before that he said she was an amazing moderator.

You kind of have to have a cynical thing sometimes. Like, Al Jourgenson made a record called, “A Mind is A Terrible Thing To Taste”, and as homage to him, it’s kind of like, Industrial has always been linked to heavy, aggressive, hateful music. Especially Trent and all the other guys and it just was like a tongue-in-cheek kind of mockery. It’s a cynical kind of “fuck you” to the “Make America Great Again” Tour, but with Donald Trump. So, with all of the political, cynicism and with all of the shit that he says, it’s just like, OK, we’re just going to go on tour and make fun of you the whole time.

I mean it’s not like it’s some anti-Trump rally, it’s just the name of a tour. The last tour name before that was The ‘Anti-Folk Revival Tour in Drop D’. There’s a sense of humor to this band and I always like to tell jokes in a joking fashion. It’s The “Make America Hate Again” Tour because we’re dangerously close. Like I was saying with Hitler, he’s blaming brown people. Doesn’t matter if you come from Mexico, doesn’t matter. They’re not the problem. The problem is that corporations have way too much power in Congress and the government and they’re rigging the system so that they don’t pay taxes, but we do. We pay for all these crazy wars they come up with. So, to me it’s like a call-to-action. Make America hate on crazy right-wing nut bars that want to fuckin’ believe that Jesus told them to invade Iraq. George Bush, ya’ know?

Since we have a new tour on April 13th called The “Make America Hate Again” Tour. It’s kind of a “Fuck You!” to Donald Trump and all his efforts to alienate brown people. Even though he says he wants to help the middle-class, he doesn’t give a flying fuck. He just wants to hire his fuckin’ buddies to build a wall to keep the Mexicans out. “I’ve got a great idea, we’ll make millions. We’ll build a wall to go across the Southern border. It’s so easy to see, so as a joke, we’re just like, “Oh yeah, Make America Hate Again, yeah that’s what we’re doing.”

As far as Orgy, Vampires Everywhere & Death Valley High being included on Filter’s upcoming US Spring Tour, are these artists that Filter wanted as part of the tour, a booking agency and record label decision, or a little of both?

Patrick: “We’re of similar ilk age, ya’ know? We’re birds of a feather and we stick together. I think that there hasn’t been a real, kind of heavy industrial tour in a long time and I haven’t chilled out, I’ve gotten meaner, I’ve gotten tougher. I wanted a band that plays heavy music without a bunch of guitars. Even though we love our guitars and we play them as loud as we can, there’s more than Industrial nod to this record. So, I wanted to tour with a band where we could put all our fans in one place and rock out with.”

In Billboard.com’s review of ‘Crazy Eyes,’ they stated the following:
“Crazy Eyes is hardly bereft of guitars but there are a substantial amount of electronics and effects in use. The result features heavy industrial crunch and solemn, ambient songs that reach back to Patrick’s time in Nine Inch Nails and the first Filter album, 1995’s Short Bus.” 

What is your opinion on their summarized depiction of the record?

Patrick: “Trent in 1988 was in a band called “The Exotic Birds” and I was in a band called “The AKT”. We were both really listening to bands like Ministry, With Sympathy, Skinny Puppy and we realized that you could be as mean as shit and you can use keyboards. Most stuff sounded like Kraftwerks or Depeche Mode. Depeche mode was awesome, but they were so specifically Depeche Mode. So, we were worried that we had to be like Information Society or something. When I was in Nine Inch Nails, I jumped on at the end when he recorded “Pretty Hate Machine” and then he released “Broken”. There’s a huge sonic change from those two records and he thanked his live band for being an influence. That credit on that EP was the fact that I was always saying, “We’ve got to fucking make it heavy and mean, man. We’ve got to fucking drop our balls down a little bit and fucking flex our muscles, be mean and fucking make heavy music.

I’m not claiming anything, but when you’re hearing that all the time, it was just coming from that point of view of, “Let’s say mean shit, fucking say it, scream and be angry because we were fucking angry. When we started the NIN Tour, we felt we’d never make it. I mean Bon Jovi and all that shit was always going to be there. We hoped it was going to go someplace, but we were downtrodden, pissed off musicians that had been picked on because we didn’t have Marshall amplifiers or something. Eventually we did get some Marshall amplifiers, but we were picked on because we were using synthesizers, samplers, fake drums. We had Simmons pads, we didn’t have real drums. We were all about breaking all those rules.

I miss drunk Ritchie from “Short Bus” screaming at people, “Do it this way, motherfucker!” I miss that guy. It took him to make this record, except that he wasn’t so angry, he just got his way. I worked with Amy Cappello on a bunch of songs. I produced it and co-produced it with a lot of different people and a lot of really great musicians. It was extremely important that I go, “Look, I’m sorry, this is just not going the way I want it to go, so let’s just stop this and start over on something else, let’s create something new. It takes the artist as well as the producer to really have all the final say.

I had to place myself in that position because no matter what was going on in Filter on those first 3 records, I was always getting my way. I was always the guy saying yes or no. To my detriment, in Amalgamut, I think some of the lyrics weren’t good enough and I was at the tail end of my drug problem. I’m not a perfect song writer, but I am song writing problems with dynamics, instrument change and arrangements. When I sang “Head of Fire,” I just kept on going like, “Head of Fire” in the 2nd verse. It just turned into this weird 10-bar extras bar. Normal verses are supposed to be like 8-bars and I just kept going. It went on until like 12- bars and I just kept repeating. I love that. I love not just being traditional.

I love breaking all the rules. In the middle of “Mother Eve,” it breaks down to a cello when he realizes what he’s doing, this person I was trying to understand, I just broke it down and had him sing like he was a little scared kid. I sang like I was this scared kid because I think he realized he was doing some pretty horrible shit. Then he rebuilt his energy and said, “I’ve got my reasons.” Then I’d break down to a cello part. That’s more fun than just, “OK, the intro’s done, let’s do the 1st verse and then we’ll do the chorus.” It just got really redundant on other records. So, for this record, it was just like, “Let’s just do it this way, fuck it. I know it’s not right. I know it’s not the traditional way. Let’s just do something weird” and all of that is why people like it. It’s reflective of that kid who didn’t necessarily know what he was doing, but created something original anyway.”

With so many recent losses in the world of hard rock, what are your thoughts on the recent passing of Stone Temple Pilot’s frontman, Scott Weiland?

Patrick: “I mean it was expected. I’ve been in recovery for a long time and people die every other week. It’s a sad place in America right now where kids are getting hooked on heroin. They go to rehab, then they come back out and then do heroin, overdose and die. That’s why I took to the internet. It was like, “Dude, what the fuck are you doing?” in talking about it in interviews. When I got sober, it was just one voicemail that really, really stuck in my head. It was this old girlfriend going, “You are a fucking loser. You’re fucking blowing it. You’re not getting away with it. You’re a fucking asshole. You’ve treated me like shit. I’ve got one fucking word. Rehab! Go to that fucking shit.”

It was so mean, but it was so like, “Wow, she’s not holding back.” It was so honest that a couple of days later, I was in rehab and that was it. When it comes to Scott, it was not a shock. It wasn’t a surprise and it’s sad because he really was amazing, but he could never just hold onto being OK with himself. He could never self-diagnose himself as a person that was just addicted. There was a week where he was sober and I had seen his last interview. He was completely lucid. He wasn’t stuttering & he wasn’t slow. I think what happened was he went back to his normal amount and killed himself because his heart wasn’t ready for it. Just from observation and from knowing addiction, it looked like he kind of fell apart, went out, did some cocaine and it was just enough to kill him.”

Upon the release of 2006’s Army of Anyone record, considering your prior collaborations with the DeLeo brothers of Stone Temple Pilots & drummer Ray Luzier, what was your experience like working with them and is their potential to create music with them in the future?

Patrick: “It was a true band. We’d go into rehearsal hall every other day and play the music. We did the demos kind of like the way I do records, which is just write with a computer and approximate the drums, but then we rehearsed it and were a band. So, it was very much like a band experience. I had never been in a band like that, but it was cool, I love it and maybe one day we’ll do another.”

What is your current opinion on the overall state of the music industry in 2016?

Patrick: “I think Pledge Music is unbelievably fucking cool. You know, you’ve got kids that are willing to put their money where their mouths are. They’re like, “OK, I’ve got the signed CD and it’s not coming out for months. I’ve got the poster.” Then they tune in and they see us making the record and they comment, “Wow, that sounds really cool!” and you start to get a rapport with all these people watching you make this record and you learn from them. They specifically told me, they want “Crazy Rich.” They don’t want fuckin’ together, happy married, adjusted Richard Patrick. They want fuckin’ nuttier! The nuttier that they met on “Short Bus;” they want that young, alcoholic nut bag who says anything he wants. He writes songs about fuckin’ guys that hold press conferences and then blow their heads off. I’m like, “OK, shit, that’s fine.” Then showing it to all the other people, I’m like, “No, we’re not going to make another pretty radio song. We’re going to fucking just go crazy.” That’s the good part!”

In having the privilege to attend Filter’s “Crazy Eyes” album listening party in NYC last week, hosted by Matt Pinfield, how did you feel in response to the positive praise your latest works received by those in attendance?

Patrick: “I was really happy, I mean, I like this record. I listen to this record in the car a lot. This is a record that I’ve listened to a lot ever since it was made. Even though it’s done and I’ve heard every little version of it, I still like to listen to it. It’s fun. You get in your car and you’re just like, “Oh, shit, I want to hear “Nothing In My Hands.” I think the song-writing behind that was really cool. I’m just a proud papa and it’s nice to get that validation from my colleagues in the industry. You get up, you pull your pants down and you’re like, “Here it is!”

In 1993, you departed from NIN & signed with Warner Bros. in 1995 releasing Short Bus with the instant classic hit, ‘Hey Man, Nice Shot.’ At what point in being on the road as a guitarist with NIN, did you feel ready to embark out on your own in writing music on your own terms?

Patrick: “From the moment I was in Nine Inch Nails, I was like, “Man, one of these days, I’m gonna’ do my thing.” Then it just became obvious. I mean it was so geared to support Trent and no one else and maybe if you did all this, maybe you’d get a little credit. And I just believed in myself and knew that I could do it. I quit a band right before the pinnacle of their career and I split to just be my own man. I think that takes a lot of guts, it was really risky, it could have gone south and I just believed in myself and went for it. I’m sitting here talking to you today talking to you about a career that’s lasted 30 years.”

Considering that digital streaming & download services such as iTunes & Spotify have completely reinvented how music is heard and purchased, what are your thoughts regarding physical vs. digital music?

Patrick: “I buy digital music off of iTunes all the time. I Shazam something in an airport or in a club or something; I Shazam it, I buy it. I am fully digital, but you know, CD’s are amazing because you get the artwork, you get to look at the lyrics, you get to look at the behind-the-scenes photos or something. And then of course LP, that’s the ultimate old-school, “Oh, wow, there’s a big, huge picture.” I was a CD baby because the quality was right there. There was no scratching and usually 9-times-out-of-10 it wouldn’t skip. I appreciate CD’s, but I’ve been digital for 10 years.

So, however it gets to you and as long as you’re paying for it because honestly, people have to know that if you didn’t pay for it, you’re not helping the band. You’re enjoying the music for free. You’ve got to fuckin’ pay for the cheeseburger. You can’t just walk into someone’s house and take $15 bucks out of someone’s wallet and then walk out with their song. You can’t do that. You got to know the difference between stealing from being cool to the band and paying them what they’re deserved. Everyone has to make money. Instead of kids buying CD’s, they bought hard drives and just fuckin’ raped everybody. That’s why I love Pledge. I can’t say enough from Pledge Music. I mean it was so reassuring to just get financial reinforcement to go make a record that they liked enough to buy before even hearing it. They had heard bits and pieces online, but they just trusted and believed in us and that was a really great, reassuring thing.”

Fans of the rock community may or may not be aware that you are related to actor Robert Patrick, most notable for his role as the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, among various other roles both on-screen and behind the scenes. Were you both creative and artistically inclined from an early age and did either close friends or family members play a role influencing your career?

richard-robert-patrickPatrick: “Robert and I were just crazy. He was growing up in Michigan then I came around and was growing up in Ohio. He was waiting tables and I was not really doing well at school because I had really bad ADHD. So, he was just like, “Look, let’s fuckin’ go for it. I’m going to go off and be an actor. I believe in myself enough, I just want to go do it. I want to be Steve McQueen, man. And I’m just like, “Hell, if you’re going to do that, I want to fuckin’ play my guitar and I’d rather sing, perform and fuckin’ enjoy it. Yeah man, we should do it!” My parents were like, “Wow! You actually did this shit! He sings and I act, ya’ know. So, hopefully I can act this year and get out behind my normal comfort zone.”

In going public about your struggles with drug & alcohol abuse to your success with sobriety, do you feel Filter has been more artistically expressive as a band, pre or post sobriety?

Patrick: “That’s a hard question. I think that part of my success was the fact that I would literally threaten your life if you got in-between me and what I wanted to do with my music. I was so drunk and in-your-face and so ADHD and so unhinged that I kind of got what I wanted. When you get sober, they teach you to go with-the-flow and treat people with respect. So, you can kind of go overboard and be like, “Fuck what you think! I think we should go into a regular, traditional bridge and we should do the regular, traditional chorus instead of being like, “Fuck it! I want to do this. I hear it in my fuckin’ head. You know? There’s a difference, so. Especially on this record, I had to be like, “What were you doing back in the day? You were just hearing what you wanted to do and knocking the mouse out of someone’s hand and you’d sit at the computer, fuckin’ bang on it and probably erase half the song accidentally, but sit there and actually make it work. I needed to have that anger and that edge and I just kind of made it.”

In terms of song-writing and considering you’re a guitarist, vocalist and self-produced musician, are you geared more towards the digital Pro Tools approach of recording or are you more analog driven?

Patrick: “Pro Tools! I’ve been Pro Tools since 1993. We bought our first gigabyte hard drive, it cost $4,000.00 because our ADAT tapes were eating up the fuckin’ tape and we were like, “Fuck!” You had to wait 5 seconds before you could start recording. You couldn’t just hit a space bar. I remember our computer would crash and we’d have to wait 15-minutes while it was booting up again. And then you’d lose like he mood you’re in and you’re like. “What were we doing?”

I want it all right now. Like, take this out right now. Truncate that, fix it, edit this, move this, this amp sucks, go back into the plug-ins. No amplifiers on this record. We use fuckin’ plug-ins. It’s your ears that tell you what’s good or bad. It doesn’t matter how you mic a fuckin’ old 1968 old twin reverb. Who gives a fuck? It’s about getting in there and making it sound good right now, let’s go! “I’m hungry! I want to go get some lunch. Fuckin’ make this perfect, I can’t leave hear until it’s perfectly crazy or fucked up. Yeah, it’s always been just me, a dude and a computer. The first 3-songs I wrote, I was with Lumpy and John Radtke. That was, “Nothing In My Hands,” “Your Bullets” and “Head of Fire.”

What is the basis for how Filter approaches writing music? Has it always been centered around the guitar or do other electronic elements come into play?

Patrick: ”Well, you need something to play notes and chords. So, for me, I just grab a guitar, I just grab a little acoustic guitar I have and think, “Let’s get a cool sound.” Then we’ll mess with that and it will inspire something. There’s never the same road. It’s always, every time it’s always a different road.”

With the commercial success of 1995’s Short Bus record, did you ever have the gut-feeling that “Hey Man, Nice Shot” would inevitably become such a huge hit single?

Patrick: “I had no idea. I knew it was really cool to me and I was like, “Fuck, this is something I would listen to.” There’s a lot of shit you come up with where you don’t even want to be in the same room when someone tries to play it. They all sit there and they don’t get it and you’re like, “Ahh fuck, I hate this!” “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” I’d be with my buddies and be like, “Listen to this shit, I can’t believe I did it!” I’m really happy it’s a huge it. That’s what we all want. For me, I just want to touch people’s ears. I want to touch people’s lives. I want to give them something they can release to towards their anger.”

The black wave-like Filter symbol can be found on the cover of both Short Bus and ‘Crazy Eyes.’ If you could elaborate on the meaning behind this symbol?
Patrick: “The Zoom Zoom. One goes right, the other one goes left. It’s a yin yang. An artist came up with it and I just always liked it. I thought it was like the NBC logo or those old logos, TWA. It’s just a cool symbol for the band. We kind of went some other places with it, but then I felt that that logo and symbol were the things I like. I want to make a backdrop that’s just one, big, huge, red backdrop with a white circle and the symbol right in the middle. It’s like full-on propaganda looking thing. My general manager’s like “It’s a Zoom Zoom! It goes Zoom this way and Zooms that way!”

Original Guns N’ Roses Member Rumored To Join Reunion

The latest Guns N’ Roses rumors on MyGNRForum from Eddie Money indicate that Izzy Stradlin will ‘for sure’ be involved in GNR’s reunion in a limited capacity, performing with the band in Las Vegas.

“Izzy is in for sure. My source didn’t say anything about Matt Sorum and said that there is still discussion about having Adler be a part of the tour on some level. They didn’t say that Sorum would not be involved though.”

“[Izzy will] not [play] the entire show as far as I know.”

“[Steven] is not rehearsing with them but it doesn’t mean that he’s excluded completely. Honestly, I haven’t heard one way or the other.”

“There’s an oversight management team and then each principal member (Axl, Slash, and Duff) have a representative on a committee, and there is also a forth person to look out for the interests of the unrepresented participants (Richard, Dizzy, and Izzy, Tracy, Roberta, Teddy Zig Zag, etc).”

Guns N’ Roses’ classic “Welcome to the Jungle” was featured in a new Taco Bell commercial on Sunday. Taco Bell wrote, “Bigger than drones? Man buns? Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler discussed Guns N’ Roses’ reunion on The Howard Stern show recently. When asked if he was responsible for the reunion, he had the following quotes:

“I ran into Axl [Rose] at a club a year or two ago and told him he’s crazy, we all miss them, and he needs to get the band back together.”

“If they didn’t get back together soon they would have missed their window and no one would have cared in 3 or 4 years.”

Stone Temple Pilots Talk Singer Search: ‘We Honor Scott Every Night We Play These Songs’

Stone Temple Pilots’ Robert and Dean DeLeo appeared on KLOS yesterday, and Robert discussed Scott Weiland.

“We enjoy still playing these songs. I think when we do play these songs, we honor Scott every night when we play these songs, and will continue to do so. I hope I’m playing these songs until I’m old and grey.”

“From the beginning, he was very very influenced by Jim. I don’t personally listen to our own music a lot, but because of his passing, I went back. I noticed a couple of different influences there that I don’t think people would even realize.

One is Morrison, and on the mellower side, the more ballad side of our music, I hear a lot of Karen Carpenter. He’s got that same inflection that she had. We discussed our love for the Carpenters, and his love for her voice, and that really went back to his choir years. He really had that same inflection that she had, they shared that.”

Dean also discussed the requirement for STP’s next singer, “If they’re as great as Mr. Weiland and Mr. Bennington they have a shot.”

Stone Temple Pilots are currently taking open auditions for lead singer on their website StoneTemplePilots.com. Scott Weiland was fired from Stone Temple Pilots in early 2013, and was replaced by Chester Bennington. Weiland announced that Bennington had left the band in November 2015, and Weiland died in December 2015.

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Albums Get Ranked Up!

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be releasing a much anticipated new album in 2016.  However, with their current repertoire they have become one of the most successful and consistent bands in modern rock, so ranking their albums took quite bit of brainstorming. Focusing on the album as a whole and not the quality of the singles of each album was the main approach to this piece. RHCP’s first three albums are similar; a very young band trying to find its way.  However, when Mother’s Milk was released in 1989 the band finally tapped into their potential and the majority of the next six albums made the band one of the biggest, if not the biggest, band in modern rock music.

10. Red Hot Chili Peppers (self-titled) (1983)
The first album from RHCP was very raw and lacked cohesiveness, which would be expected considering the band wasn’t considered a serious project by guitarist Hillel Slovak who backed out of recording the album.  Anthony Kiedis and Flea have mentioned over the years that they prefer the demo versions of most of these songs which were recorded with the original lineup featuring Slovak.  Reaching just below the Billboard top 200, RHCP’s debut included very few highlights, however “Green Heaven” is a fan favorite and “Out In LA” is the first song that RHCP wrote together.

9. Freaky Styley (1985)
Produced by funk mastermind George Clinton, Freaky Styley had some high points, particularly the comical “Catholic School Girls Rule” but still failed to garner much commercial success.
Bassist Flea had this to say about the album for the 2003 reissue:
“I know the music on this record was just way too obscure to ever be popular in a mainstream kind of way, but to me it really holds its own as a definitive and substantial musical statement. More than any other record we ever made it falls into the category of “too funky for white radio, too punk rockin’ for black.” Of course, the songs were very far away from any pop format; I realize it is/was not just the racial segregation at radio that precluded it from being a popular record.”

8. The Uplift MoFo Party Plan (1987)
The Uplift MoFo Party Plan was the last album to feature all four founding members of the band. Guitarist Hillel Slovak would later die of a heroin overdose after the tour in support of the album, and drummer Jack Irons would quit the band being unable to cope with the loss of his friend.  As the RHCP sound continued to sprout, this album was their most successful one up to this point and was actually their first album to enter the Billboard top 200.  Some noteworthy tracks include “Fight Like A Brave”, “Me and my Friends”, and “Behind the Sun”.

7. I’m With You (2011)
The first album since One Hot Minute sans John Frusciante seems to be a band in rebuilding mode with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer who seemingly does not quite fill the shoes his predecessor left behind.  Many RHCP albums, specifically the ones released after the 1980’s, were very guitar heavy, but the guitar parts took more of a backing role with I’m With You. However, it seems that the talent of Josh Klinghoffer wasn’t the issue; the issue was in the production phase of the album as the recorded guitar parts were greatly turned down.  A fan re-engineered the album and posted the new version on youtube which brings the guitar parts out into the forefront. Many fans believe this change greatly enhanced the quality of the album and truth be told if that version was the one originally released it would have been ranked just below Blood Sugar Sex Magic on this list. However, based on the recording that was released, besides one of the most exceptional ballads the band has ever recorded in “Breaden’s Death Song”, the tracks don’t measure up to any of the singles that RHCP released since before Mother’s Milk. Tracks like “Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie”, “Look Around”, and “Monarchy of Roses” which all could be placed in the same category as “Suck My Kiss”, “Higher Ground”, and “Around the World” would all rank at the bottom of that category.  I’m With You was an album with great potential, but the decision to hide Klinghoffer’s talent greatly degraded the finished product.

6. Mothers Milk (1989)
Mothers Milk was the album that RHCP finally polished their unique sound to form something that was widely accepted on MTV and rock radio. The Stevie Wonder cover “Higher Ground” and the second single “Knock Me Down” both received significant air play and became the sound the band would feed off of for years to come. Other great highlights from this album include the Jimmy Hendrix cover “Fire” and the scorcher “Johnny Kick a Hole in the Sky”.

5. Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991)
Blood Sugar Sex Magik made the Red Hot Chili Peppers a worldwide phenomenon. Hard hitting and funky tracks like “Suck My Kiss” and “Give it Away” are the yin to the yang of two of the best ballads in the RHCP catalog in “Breaking the Girl” and “Under the Bridge”.  This album contained some of the band’s best singles, but as a complete piece wasn’t their best cohesive work.

4. One Hot Minute (1995)
The one off album featuring guitarist Dave Navarro in place of John Frusciante is a bit of an enigma. Flea once eluded that Navarro wasn’t a good fit for RHCP, and the band very rarely play a song from this album live. However, as a whole it is just about as great as the rest of their classics. It contains some of the bands more standard alternative rock tracks like “Coffee Shop” and “Warped” and along with the ballad “My Friends” and the fun oddity “Aeroplane” One Hot Minute is surprisingly RHCP’s most well rounded album.

3. By The Way (2002)
By The Way was critically acclaimed but a bit of a change of pace from the band’s previous releases. However, as solid as it was, the album wasn’t as consistent as Californication or Stadium Arcadium, even though “Can’t Stop” and “By The Way” were great singles. Other highlights include tracks like “Dosed”, “Universally Speaking” and “The Zephyr Song” in which the band strayed away from their norm and the tracks became a favorite among many fans.  Additionally, the track “Throw Away Your Television” may be the best track to come out of the By The Way sessions and has since become a spectacularly performed live staple.

2. Californication (1999)
After the release of One Hot Minute, five long years passed and the buzz surrounding RHCP had chilled a bit. There were some drug problems in the band during this hiatus plus the departure of Dave Navarro, however, that departure allowed for the return of John Frusciante, and the fire was restarted after the release of Californication. This album contains everything that makes the Red Hot Chili Peppers great songwriters. Tracks like “Otherside”, “Californication”, and “Scar Tissue” have the same essence that made “Under the Bridge” such a landmark track, and the funky “Around the World” was a throwback to the RHCP standard which helped get the critics back on their side.

1. Stadium Arcadium (2006)
I can see it in the comments section already… This guy put which album #1!!!???
John Frusciante’s swan song.. or.. swan album (hardy har har) is, as a complete work, the Red Hot Chili Peppers BEST album.  Stadium Arcadium contains over two hours of great single worthy tracks and it’s difficult to single out a specific track that stands out amongst others because of the album’s consistency, and in all honesty, the singles may be the weakest tracks on the album.  Stadium Arcadium doesn’t have a track that is as epic as “Scar Tissue”, “Give It Away”, or “Under the Bridge” however, from start to finish, it is RHCPs most solid album and may actually be one of the best double albums of all time.

Richard Patrick On Influencing Nine Inch Nails’ Broken: ‘We’ve Got To Drop Our Balls & Flex Our Muscles’

I recently conducted an interview with Filter frontman Richard Patrick for Alternative Nation at the listening party in New York for Filter’s 7th studio album, Crazy Eyes, set for release on April 8, 2016. We will be publishing the complete interview later this week.

In Billboard’s review of Crazy Eyes, they stated the following: “Crazy Eyes is hardly bereft of guitars but there are a substantial amount of electronics and effects in use. The result features heavy industrial crunch and solemn, ambient songs that reach back to Patrick’s time in Nine Inch Nails and the first Filter album, 1995’s Short Bus.” I asked Patrick about this quote, and he looked back at his early days in Nine Inch Nails.

Patrick: “Trent in 1988 was in a band called “The Exotic Birds” and I was in a band called “The AKT”. We were both really listening to bands like Ministry, With Sympathy, Skinny Puppy and we realized that you could be as mean as shit and you can use keyboards. Most stuff sounded like Kraftwerk or Depeche Mode. Depeche Mode was awesome, but they were so specifically Depeche Mode. So, we were worried that we had to be like Information Society or something. When I was in Nine Inch Nails, I jumped on at the end when he recorded Pretty Hate Machine and then he released Broken. There’s a huge sonic change from those two records and he thanked his live band for being an influence. That credit on that EP was the fact that I was always saying, ‘We’ve got to fucking make it heavy and mean, man. We’ve got to fucking drop our balls down a little bit and fucking flex our muscles, be mean and fucking make heavy music.’

I’m not claiming anything, but when you’re hearing that all the time, it was just coming from that point of view of, ‘Let’s say mean shit, fucking say it, scream and be angry,’ because we were fucking angry. When we started the NIN Tour, we felt we’d never make it. I mean Bon Jovi and all that shit was always going to be there. We hoped it was going to go someplace, but we were downtrodden, pissed off musicians that had been picked on because we didn’t have Marshall amplifiers or something. Eventually we did get some Marshall amplifiers, but we were picked on because we were using synthesizers, samplers, fake drums. We had Simmons pads, we didn’t have real drums. We were all about breaking all those rules.

I miss drunk Ritchie from Short Bus screaming at people, ‘Do it this way, motherfucker!’ I miss that guy. It took him to make this record, except that he wasn’t so angry, he just got his way. I worked with Amy Cappello on a bunch of songs. I produced it and co-produced it with a lot of different people and a lot of really great musicians. It was extremely important that I go, “Look, I’m sorry, this is just not going the way I want it to go, so let’s just stop this and start over on something else, let’s create something new. It takes the artist as well as the producer to really have all the final say.

I had to place myself in that position because no matter what was going on in Filter on those first 3 records, I was always getting my way. I was always the guy saying yes or no. To my detriment, in Amalgamut, I think some of the lyrics weren’t good enough and I was at the tail end of my drug problem. I’m not a perfect song writer, but I am song writing problems with dynamics, instrument change and arrangements. When I sang “Head of Fire,” I just kept on going like, “Head of Fire” in the 2nd verse. It just turned into this weird 10-bar extras bar. Normal verses are supposed to be like 8-bars and I just kept going. It went on until like 12- bars and I just kept repeating. I love that. I love not just being traditional.

I love breaking all the rules. In the middle of “Mother Eve,” it breaks down to a cello when he realizes what he’s doing, this person I was trying to understand, I just broke it down and had him sing like he was a little scared kid. I sang like I was this scared kid because I think he realized he was doing some pretty horrible shit. Then he rebuilt his energy and said, ‘I’ve got my reasons.’ Then I’d break down to a cello part. That’s more fun than just, ‘OK, the intro’s done, let’s do the 1st verse and then we’ll do the chorus.’ It just got really redundant on other records. So, for this record, it was just like, ‘Let’s just do it this way, fuck it. I know it’s not right. I know it’s not the traditional way. Let’s just do something weird’ and all of that is why people like it. It’s reflective of that kid who didn’t necessarily know what he was doing, but created something original anyway.”

Stone Temple Pilots Talk Scott Weiland: ‘He Didn’t Want To Be Around Us, We Told Him The Truth’

Robert and Dean DeLeo discussed the death of late Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland on KROQ’s Kevin and Bean Show this morning. Alternative Nation transcribed some quotes from the interview.

Dean said, “Look man, when somebody keeps going in that direction, and I’m hanging on with hope, and help, and prayer, and doing whatever I can do. I spent over 20 years doing that, and it eventually starts to creep into my own home, my own living room, my own family. It starts to damage me.”

Robert said, “I don’t know if people really understand addiction, and being around that, and not being an addict, and having to live with that on a personal and a business relationship.”

He added, “I think what we did offer Scott over the course of our career was the truth, and honesty. Someone who is that deep in their addiction runs from that, they run from truth and honesty. That’s where he was, we became these guys that he didn’t want to be around because we were telling him like it was.

Kurt Cobain’s Ex-Girlfriend: ‘Courtney Love Threatened To Cut Off My Head & Burn Down My House’

Kurt Cobain’s ex-girlfriend Mary Lou Lord made headlines across the internet last week for her comments on Courtney Love, and she was at it again over the weekend with the following Facebook post:

I should have sued the bitch a long time ago.
But that’s not something that ever would have fixed anything. Maybe
temporarily, but it wasn’t and never will be a thing money can heal.

I never came up to her and said a thing.
She broke my teeth, she cracked my skull and she caused

I did watch soaked in bleach, and regardless
of my stance on his death, which, I have no opinion on, it re-ignited an anger
in me that I never thought would be so profound. Anger is bad. I hate it.
But if you think I am saying all this now for any potential gain in anything, I am not.
I could have sued her. I didn’t. I tried to take the high road and move on.
I just tried to make the best music I could, and not let this effect me.
But she carried on attacking me for years, and I was in constant fear. Insane fear.
She threatened me, she also threatened my elderly parents who I was living
with through the many years of my early career. She threatened to burn our house down, and threatened to kill me with a gun, and cut off my head.
I’m not sorry to vent this publicly. That Soaked In Bleach movie just rattled
me so much. And I think people should know. She might be doing better now, but I still feel inside her, she is a rotten person . Money helps, clearly. (To a sociopath like her), and now, She has tons of it. Through law suits that HIS MONEY paid for!!! and the damage that SHE brought upon herself! So, why “wouldn’t” she be doing “better now”?
The movie just triggered so many emotions. How sad and pointless.
His death itself, etc. Just so fucking sad. It also triggered feelings about how
sad Elliott’s passing was as well. If you think this was easy for me, and others who went through this at that time, you’re wrong. I don’t think I’m entirely batshit crazy for talking about this either. I know I will let it go, and I think this is part of the process. It’s gross in a way to talk publicly about it all (i know that), but you, as fans and music lovers, and friends, are part of the fabric that this entire world of the music we make, and love, is woven from. It’s our reality, and our emotions regarding it, should never be denied.

Richard Patrick On Scott Weiland’s Drug Use: ‘He Went Back To His Normal Amount & His Heart Wasn’t Ready’

I recently conducted an interview with Filter frontman Richard Patrick for Alternative Nation at the listening party in New York for Filter’s 7th studio album, Crazy Eyes, set for release on April 8, 2016. We will be publishing this interview in parts as separate news articles, and in this article Patrick discusses what he believes killed late Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, and the future of Army of Anyone, his supergroup with STP’s DeLeo brothers.

With so many recent losses in the world of hard rock, what are your thoughts on the passing of Stone Temple Pilots frontman, Scott Weiland?

I mean it was expected. I’ve been in recovery for a long time and people die every other week. It’s a sad place in America right now where kids are getting hooked on heroin. They go to rehab, then they come back out and then do heroin, overdose and die. That’s why I took to the internet. It was like, “Dude, what the fuck are you doing?” in talking about it in interviews. When I got sober, it was just one voicemail that really, really stuck in my head. It was this old girlfriend going, “You are a fucking loser. You’re fucking blowing it. You’re not getting away with it. You’re a fucking asshole. You’ve treated me like shit. I’ve got one fucking word. Rehab! Go to that fucking shit.

It was so mean, but it was so like, “Wow, she’s not holding back.” It was so honest that a couple of days later, I was in rehab and that was it. When it comes to Scott, it was not a shock. It wasn’t a surprise and it’s sad because he really was amazing, but he could never just hold onto being OK with himself. He could never self-diagnose himself as a person that was just addicted. There was a week where he was sober and I had seen his last interview. He was completely lucid. He wasn’t stuttering & he wasn’t slow. I think what happened was he went back to his normal amount and killed himself because his heart wasn’t ready for it. Just from observation and from knowing addiction, it looked like he kind of fell apart, went out, did some cocaine and it was just enough to kill him.

Upon the release of 2006’s Army of Anyone record, considering your prior collaborations with the DeLeo brothers from Stone Temple Pilots and drummer Ray Luzier, what was your experience like working with them and is their potential to create music with them in the future?

It was a true band. We’d go into rehearsal hall every other day and play the music. We did the demos kind of like the way I do records, which is just write with a computer and approximate the drums, but then we rehearsed it and were a band. So, it was very much like a band experience. I had never been in a band like that, but it was cool, I love it and maybe one day we’ll do another.

Guns N’ Roses members Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan have released a statement mocking people like Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, and Andrew Dice Clay for taking credit for their reunion.

“Guns N’ Roses would like to respectfully thank the many people taking credit for our upcoming shows and everything in between. Especially those whom we haven’t spoken to in numerous years who, through the power of media, have somehow served a pivotal, even if non-existent role. We, and the fans thank you! #GnFnR.”

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler discussed Guns N’ Roses’ reunion on The Howard Stern show recently. When asked if he was responsible for the reunion, he had the following quotes:

“I’m sure I’m not solely.”

“I ran into Axl [Rose] at a club a year or two ago and told him he’s crazy, we all miss them, and he needs to get the band back together.”

“If they didn’t get back together soon they would have missed their window and no one would have cared in 3 or 4 years.”

“People love Axl with the original band, they love him on his own but they want to see him with the original guys.”

“I said the same things to Axl that everyone said to me when me and Joe Perry were fighting.”

“Guns N Roses music was part of the fabric of all people.”

When asked about the animosity in GNR:

“I get the whole thing, I can’t talk about it. But they’re talking and they got an offer. I hope Axl can see the greater picture and not be mad at Duff and Slash.”

Howard asked if the beef was similar to the riff that tore apart Aerosmith, asked jokingly if one of the band members slept with another ones wife or something?

Steven said it was deeper then that. But the world needs to hear their music and they’re talking to each other again.

Red Hot Chili Peppers performed “Aeroplane” for the first time in nearly 20 years at a Super Bowl pre-show party last night in San Francisco. The last time the Chili Peppers performed the One Hot Minute track was on July 26, 1997 at the Fuji Rock Festival, the band’s final performance with guitarist Dave Navarro. In the late 1990’s, the Red Hot Chili Peppers were on their last leg with Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro. After touring the world for One Hot Minute, the band tried writing and recording new material with Navarro. Until now, nothing from those sessions have ever been leaked. In rare interviews and fan communities, a title, “Circle of the Noose” would surface up. Today, it was leaked to the world by rhcptv5 on Twitter, and posted on YouTube. Commenting on the song’s character, a tribute to qawwali devotional singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Navarro recalled in an AllStar 1997 interview that:

“One of the songs we’ve done is the greatest pop song I’ve ever been a part of…It’s pop in the sense of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, hook. I really love it and we use a loop of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. It’s really nice. The best way I can describe it is it’s like pepped- up ’60s folk with ’90s ideals, but I would hate to label it as folk because it’s not, it moves.”

Anthony Kiedis discussed Red Hot Chili Peppers’ new album last week on Jonesy’s Jukebox.

“We’re in the home stretch. I sang yesterday, I get a week off, I go back to finish.”

He added, “We’re going to back and listen to the songs, and see if we can beat them.”

“We had written two dozen songs before we got with him. [Producer Danger Mouse] is like, ‘Let’s keep a few of those, but let’s go write all new songs in the studio. We’re looking at each other like, ‘Dude, we kind of already wrote the songs, bro.’ He’s like, ‘No, I like to write new ones in the studio.’ So, in honor of accommodating this new process, we wrote all new songs, and it’s a good thing we did.

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea ripped Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump in a new Rolling Stone interview.

“I can’t take Donald Trump or anything he says seriously,” he says. “I just think that he’s a silly reality-show bozo and blustering guy who likes getting attention. I don’t think he wants to be president, and I don’t think he has a chance to be the president. He’s just some egotistical, silly person whose main concern in life is getting a blowjob. He wants to be on TV and he wants everyone to thinks he’s important.”

For Flea, Trump’s controversial statements on immigration and terrorism are more “silly theatre” than bold provocations. “I don’t think he even believes what he says,” Flea says. “He’s just a product of, if you yell loud enough and bluster around enough, people are going to pay attention to you. He works the media and they love it. I’m hesitant to even discuss it because I just find it all to be really trivial.

He later added, “He’s a real-estate bozo who was born rich and has parlayed it from being a money-scammer guy.”

Stone Temple Pilots Announce Search For New Singer

Stone Temple Pilots just put an ‘under contruction’ message on their website, and with some sleuthing, Alternative Nation has found the sections on the band’s new website, and it includes the announcement of the search for a new singer:

What you also likely know is that having Chester front two bands of this size and scope was too much for one man to be able to do and so regretfully we had to move onto a new chapter together. This is where you come in…

We are officially announcing that we are seeking a new vocalist to front Stone Temple Pilots. We’ve already heard from many talented people, but want to make this an opportunity for many more so we’ve set up a way for you to do just that.

Kurt Cobain’s Ex-Girlfriend ‘Received Death Threats’ From Courtney Love

Yesterday, we reported on Kurt Cobain’s ex-girlfriend Mary Lou Lord unloading on Courtney Love in a Facebook post. When went even more in-depth on a second post:

“I just wanted to thank you guys for being cool and tolerating my ranting

about CL over the last few days. Something did indeed spark it…but I’m trying to let it all go now. A lot of you (old friends), were right there with me in the middle of this black tornado’s thrust, and I know it effected you too. It was a very weird and sad time for so many of us. For those of you who were there, this is for you too. I know your feelings aren’t that far removed. And although we don’t see each other much these days, know I love you.

I know this is long, and boring….and yes, it is public. It’s just as public as the VERY public (in print, etc) , kick in the guts she gave me over an extended amount of time, and extended amount of threats. One, that has been a long time getting over, and one, that’s been a long time letting go of. Everyone should be able to have their day where they say exactly what they have wanted to say to someone who violated them. I’m most likely never gonna write a book, and if I suddenly croak, I want to finally have my say and my voice heard on this. Not hers. Mine.

I’ve mentioned things here and there, but out of respect for Kurt and Frances, I never fully publicized ALL my feelings on this subject. No kid should have to read shitty things said about their parents. Especially when they are unable to understand or formulate their own opinions. Also, in the past, when I did say a few things here and there, it was FOR Frances if she had ever read what Courtney herself said about me concerning Kurt. What Courtney said, was actually a put down to her own husband. Those of you who know what I am talking about will understand what I mean. I said it in defense OF Kurt. He was NOT that kind of a guy who would do that. I wanted Frances (if she had ever privately read it), to know that. -That was one of the other incredibly disturbing aspects of Courtney’s lies. How it was also a total defamation of Kurt’s character within the context of her lie, and her wording. Printed in Rolling Stone, just weeks after he had died, when SHE was on the cover. And of course, Hole’s Live Through This, was #1. And, for weeks after this, it was HER not ME who was bringing attention to any involvement I might have had with him. I felt like a dork. I NEVER brought it up in interviews. It was her who planted any of the fucked up attention it got to begin with. I just wanted to hide and cry.

In the past, I let (or, I thought I had), let it go. I guess that for some reason there was still a part that I hadn’t let go of. Anger is shitty. Anger over something that happened 22 years ago. It might have something to do with these movies coming out, and having to partially re-live a feeling that never really went away. Or, was dormant. Seeing her or even hearing about her, kind of jolts me into anger. Why now? I dunno. Why do some people who got violated by priests, or hurt decades prior suddenly have the need to come forth and tell their story? I was absolutely emotionally violated by her, and it hurt me more than anyone will ever know. The defamation, the lies, and the spin off of that. Having to deal over the years with fans of hers who hated me for something that was not true to begin with. They clung on her every word, every move. Also, I was petrified of her. I feared for my life. There was no way to fight back-she was too powerful and no one would have believed me(trying to fight her lies), nor, would they have given a shit. I was a no-one. I still am pretty much a no one in comparison with her, but I am much more fearless now. I suppose, in a way, it’s similar to how years later when people are grown up, and if they were abused, and had to remain silent, they finally confront a pedophile priest or abusive person that is now old, and elderly, and broken. To finally confront a person who scared the living shit out of them, as well as abused them either emotionally, or physically. It IS a relief. It really is. I don’t look at her with pity really, (she is more beautiful than ever, and seems happy, etc)….But I feel like I can finally speak out because I am not alone any longer. People don’t believe her. I am not alone.

I just feel kind of sick whenever I see her in the press, or whatever. It’s just so gross…Doing nothing. Just being rich and “better now”…..Has she ever done one thing that was out of the kindness of her heart, or charity, or anything other than promote herself? I know she’s all for “chicks should rock”…..yea, well no shit….But dam, she could have done SO MUCH MORE with the power she had. She did nothing in any kind of humanitarian gesture. I am not saying that she is not talented, a great actress, funny, crazy smart, well versed, profound, and all the rest. Of course she is. But, she (way inside) is very, very sick. And it borders on an evil sickness that people with real feelings and an ability to feel BAD or sad have, and she, does not. She just runs on total mind, and power. But NOT heart or soul. You can hear nothing in her voice. Not even her scream. It is void.

I have a certain rage, and it’s now coming out. I’m not jealous at all of her though (ironically), omg, how could you be? she is SO loathed and hated. The karmic kick back with that woman is insane. I don’t feel at all sorry for her either. (How the fuck could you)? ….Back in the day, She had ALL the power. But she is not taken seriously now. People for the most part, know more about her. Even the young women and men who were her biggest fans. Many of them turned against her once they knew more about her. They grew up. She had a field day back when the internet was new and all the lies she would spread about me. She told people I killed her cat. She told stories upon stories on the internet (that old AOL Hole folder)…. (DOCUMENTED and downloaded to prove she did), countless grotesque lies that I could NOT stop her from spreading. I was not only was in fear of her, I was in fear of her fans. Countless times I would come out from a club, or the subway, and my car windshield would have been written on with lipstick “you suck”, or “fuck you” signed “Courtney. People would come up to me and say the most rotten things to me. Not even knowing me- All Courtney fans that were brainwashed by her or something……Then, the obvious forged fax, and the shit she said about me in Rolling Stone-The one where she was on the cover! Then, every time I looked on mtv etc….there she was. With people fawning and falling all over her. “The Princess” rock star. And all the while I KNEW how horrible she was as a person. She violated my integrity, she violated my life, she even left death threats to ME as well as my elderly parents on their answering machine causing a lot of stress and weird fear within our family. It was INSANE. Like having a gangster threaten you. Whitey Bulger or something. It was partially amusing because it was so nuts, but in the back of our minds, we were questioning “is she for real”. Will someone light our home on fire? etc etc…. In any case, made it hard to sleep at night. My parents were old and lovely, and didn’t deserve that. I felt like I had brought that pox with me -again, but not having ever done a single thing to deserve that…. I lived with my parents at the time….awful for them to have had to deal with that.

If she was just some random chick that was going around on her facebook or my space or something saying shit about another chick- that is one thing. But she was one of the biggest pop stars in the world at the time, and everyone loved her-the “grieving widow”, etc etc….so, the dynamic and the impact is a lot greater regarding the emotional toll , the incredible sadness, fear, and feeling of absolute powerlessness she made me feel. Knowing millions of people were reading her interviews, etc, and all the rotten things she was saying about me. All untrue. I was just a small town nobody busker who loved songs and friends, etc….and suddenly (very publicly), I was a fictional character she made up. She made me feel like a frightened child after she emotionally abused and violated me. She threatened me, she punched me, kicked me, chased me, and nearly had me killed that night on Sunset. And then, it continued until Kathleen and others got the guts to press charges when similar assaults happened to them. I should have pressed charges long ago. But I was too scared and didn’t want to bring any attention to it. I just wanted her to leave me alone. So, I carried this around with me for a very long time. I want to let it go, and I am letting it go now. I am letting it go publicly, just like she tore me apart with her lies publicly. I don’t know what could make a person be so cruel. I don’t understand that kind of person or that kind of thinking. Anyway, thank you for listening. And again, some of you have asked me about the Cobain “case” etc, and what I think about it, etc…..I don’t really have much to say about it. It’s not my place to say anything. I have no idea what happened. All I know is that they were two very sick people at the time. Sometimes I wonder if her particular kind of sickness was just plain dark sociopaths narcissism. Or, if there is such a thing as evil. And him, just a guy that loved music and wanted a family, and loved his daughter, but maybe couldn’t take it any more.
Anyway, thank you for reading (whoever you are), and I’m sorry this is long and self indulgent or whatever. It’s weird because I’m talking about people that you guys actually are aware of. I’m not saying things like….”in the past my ex Bob was a real prick”. I am talking about two of the most known people in the world….This was also very difficult for me because it wasn’t something easily forgettable when it’s either her face or his face on mtv or a t shirt or whatever, or when your daughter is a 17 year old Nirvana fan with curious questions that any kid would have……..It takes a lot to let it go. Thank you all for giving me some place to put these feelings that have haunted me from the past. I’ve needed some kind of validation for so long. Not just a “Oh, not this fucking story again” . I know how lucky I am and how lucky I have been to have even had the chance to be friends with some of the wonderful people I’ve been friends with.

It’s also tough, and weird, and weird in that shortly after Kurt died, I met Elliott. He never judged me, and he provided a sense relief and understanding to me, and he understood. He made the loss a lot easier to take, and move on from. (Sorry, I know I am drifting here, but on top of the “Justice for K” and “Justice for E”….I get a LOT of messages from fans and people who are looking to me to provide answers, or something, and it mixes in, and is so fucking weird and sad to me)……anyway, then, he too, Elliott was gone. This was (as you can imagine), very, very hard. It was beyond comprehension. But he gave me a home for my feelings, and we shared a lot of them. He was like a little brother to me. .(you know what I mean you guys?) ugh. It’s been a lot. And hard to “just forget”, when the music is just as relevant today, and in my ears and heart as it was then. And it’s not even like I seek it out. I just hear it. Under my floor boards, my daughter’s friends . It was some of the best music ever made, and I was kind of in the middle of all of that stuff. More so of course with Elliott, but jesus, it’s been weird and hard. ….It’s hard to move away from it. Songs are different than pictures. They are invisible like ghosts, and always there. Impossible to “move on” you just have to “move different”. ugh….

And I know I am lucky with having the beautiful friends I have and of course, my daughter. I don’t want to keep reliving this. It was an incredibly difficult time in my life. When he died, we were all shattered. It was a hard time for us all.
Anyway, to finally wrap this up, I just want Frances to know that her father was one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met.

I hope we all find peace (anyone who cares about this case, or Kurt, or even Courtney), and retain a certain amount of empathy , respect, and understanding towards one another. I would say forgiveness, but that one is too hard when it comes to her….

It’s also important that no matter what our differences are on any of the matters that relate to this, that we all can try our best to be real, to be tolerant, and kind. No one should ever live in the shadow of fear or have their voice or their story squelched or be made to feel outcast, or worse, like a liar. (Whatever situation it might be)…. It’s taken 22 years for me to get up the guts to just tell it all like this. I’m not trying to draw attention to myself (I don’t care about that….I love songs, you know that)…..I am simply bringing this massive chapter to a final close and letting this ghost free-for me, and for the others who were victimized and traumatized by this person who never deserved, nor should have had that kind of power. She did not deserve a person as kind and sensitive as he was, or the love that he most likely desperately tried to give her, in the hopes of getting love back. …All he wanted was a family, and a place to belong. ..Isn’t that what we all want? ..Thank you, and again, sorry this is so long. While Tool had a triumphant tour finale at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Sunday, one fan did not have a great night. Near the end of the band’s set, a fan fell from the balcony. It wasn’t clear where he fell from, or if he jumped, but it’s been speculated that it was the suite level. He was moving though when he landed, but it startled other Tool fans. Freelance journalist Wesley Hodges told The Advocate, “It was scary,” Hodges said. “I caught it out of the corner of my eye. I saw a body coming down and heard a really loud crash. I saw him lying on the ground. There was chaos after that. People were screaming.”

“We can confirm that a patron fell,” said Sabrina Trahan, the arena’s event marketing and media coordinator, in an emailed statement. “An investigation is ongoing.”

Police and security personnel arrived quickly to help the fan who fell, but there has been no update on his health.

Tool wrapped up their tour at Smoothie King Center, New Orleans, LA this past weekend, and frontman Maynard James Keenan did it in style, wearing a tutu. Watch video, and see photos, below!

There is a very BIG difference between “Name Drop” and “clearing your name/history”….especially if this person/band/connection might be one of the things that will always haunt you by the fact this it is now still “a living, breathing, thing”…..and I will not go down without a fucking fight to set the record straight with that cunt. I honestly mean that. I HATE her, and why didn’t I say anything back then? I was too scared. And also, out of respect for Kurt’s daughter who was a child. I just sat, silentely, and watched her lie about me (and everything and everyone else. She built her world, and manipulated other people’s lives by being the best LIAR and best actress in the world. While Tool had a triumphant tour finale at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Sunday, one fan did not have a great night. Near the end of the band’s set, a fan fell from the balcony. It wasn’t clear where he fell from, or if he jumped, but it’s been speculated that it was the suite level. He was moving though when he landed, but it startled other Tool fans. Freelance journalist Wesley Hodges told The Advocate, “It was scary,” Hodges said. “I caught it out of the corner of my eye. I saw a body coming down and heard a really loud crash. I saw him lying on the ground. There was chaos after that. People were screaming.”

“We can confirm that a patron fell,” said Sabrina Trahan, the arena’s event marketing and media coordinator, in an emailed statement. “An investigation is ongoing.”

Police and security personnel arrived quickly to help the fan who fell, but there has been no update on his health.

Tool wrapped up their tour at Smoothie King Center, New Orleans, LA this past weekend, and frontman Maynard James Keenan did it in style, wearing a tutu. Watch video, and see photos, below!
