Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction & Guns N’ Roses Members Coming To Anaheim

The National Association of Music Merchants, as described on their site, is a ” not-for-profit association that promotes the pleasures and benefits of making music and strengthens the $17 billion global music products industry.” NAMM annually and famously holds a convention yearly in Anaheim, California, the largest trade-only event pertaining to music industry. As you might imagine, there’s usually a few stars attending. There’s hundreds of vendors and booths, but for AlternativeNation readers we found some names of interest attending their 2016 convention, January 21st-24th, 2016.

Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins will be there Thursday at the Reverend booths signing autographs celebrating the release of his new Reverend guitar model. Jim Fairchild of Modest Mouse will be showcasing his use of Red Panda pedals Thursday as well. The Audix Corporation will be hosting a Drummer Extravaganza and Stephen Perkins is part of a huge team of drummers at attendence for that booth. Juan Alderete of the Mars Volta will be a participant in several events, such as Red Panda pedal demonstrations, autograph signing, a EarthQuaker demonstration with his bass guitar, the latter two event occurring Friday. The EarthQuaker demonstration with Alderete will also occur Saturday.

Ron Saint Germain, who produced Sonic Youth’s Goo as well as several Bad Brains and 311 albums, will also be in attendance in a demonstration with Lynx Studio Technology, Inc. He has also worked with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Soundgarden, U2, Killing Joke and yes, Jimi Hendrix. Richie Ramone, one of the only living Ramones, will be at the Los Cabos Drumsticks booth on Saturday. DJ Ashba and Nikki Sixx, of Guns n’ Roses and Motley Crue fame, will be at the Korg booth with the Sixx A.M. bandmate James Michael for autographs. For more information on exhibitions, see here.

More Members Confirmed For Guns N’ Roses Reunion

Richard Fortus, Dizzy Reed, and Chris Pitman are all now confirmed to be part of Guns N’ Roses’ 2016 lineup, joining Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, and Frank Ferrer. This could end up being the complete lineup, unless a third guitarist joins or Steven Adler and Izzy Stradlin appear as special guests. See the confirmation below, with Ferrer confirming Fortus through a retweet, a family member confirming Reed, and a Pitman confirming his involvement himself.

BILD is reporting the first Guns N’ Roses 2016 European concert date. According to their sources, Guns N’ Roses will perform in July at the Hockenheim Ring in Hockenheim, Germany.

As we have been reporting for months, the reunited Guns N’ Roses will be headlining the Coachella festival in Indio, CA in April 2016. Billboard confirmed our reports earlier today, also reporting that the band will play the new Las Vegas Arena, which is set to open in April. Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan so far are the only confirmed members.

Alternative Nation has learned that Guns N’ Roses will announce additional United States stadium tour dates in late January 2016. We previously reported on December 1st that around 25 dates were planned, and this still appears to be the case. A show at MetLife stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (where the New York Jets and New York Giants play) is reportedly in the works.

Consequence of Sound
is reporting that Matt Sorum will be the drummer, but there have been many contradictory reports, with Frank Ferrer even hinting at his own involvement, and Steven Adler publicly lobbying for his job back just a couple of months ago.

Axl Rose ‘Should Grow The F**k Up And Let Guns N’ Roses Play’

I recently interviewed Eagles of Death Metal singer/guitarist Jesse Hughes for the BraveWords site, and in addition to discussing the group’s new album, Zipper Down, I couldn’t help but ask a Guns N’ Roses question (in case you forgot, EoDM were set to open shows for Guns in 2006, but it only lasted a single performance, with Axl Rose calling the band “Pigeons of Shit Metal” from the stage):

BraveWords: I’ve heard that two guitarists recently left Guns N’ Roses. Would you be a suitable replacement?

Jesse Hughes: “You know what man, every year, since Axl Rose fired us from the tour [in 2006], I have sent him a very sincere request – around Christmas time – inviting him to come in the studio and record two Christmas songs, and be released as ‘The Pigeons Of Shit Metal.’ And I always close it with a very judgmental, ‘Because I want you to know Axl, I’m willing to forgive you, and I feel like the rest of the world is, too.’ So I think that final statement he probably doesn’t appreciate too much, but Axl Rose unfairly – and incorrectly – is identified as ‘Guns N’ Roses.’ And I take umbrage to that. To me, Guns N’ Roses is Duff McKagan, Izzy fuckin’ Stradlin, Slash, and Steve Adler, and then Axl. When Axl was alone in the band, it was just ‘G n’ R.’ The ‘uns’ and the ‘oses’ became Velvet Revolver. And we just played a show in England, and Duff was there. It was fuckin’ awesome. I think if Guns N’ Roses really wants to play again, then Axl should grow the fuck up, and let THE Guns N’ Roses play. And that ain’t gonna happen unless it’s the actual members. Unless you want to turn Guns N’ Roses into a band like Menudo, or if it’s trying to turn it into Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. I mean, the Ringling brothers are dead, but you can still go to their circus, I guess.”

Guns N’ Roses Confirms Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal Is No Longer Part Of Band

A confirmed source for Guns N’ Roses has told WRIF that Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, is no longer a part of the band. Thal, apparently hasn’t been a part of Guns N’ Roses in quite some time as the source says: “Bumblefoot quit last year. I don’t understand why he continues to be evasive on his status with the band — he quit in South America. He told Axl he was done and (Las) Vegas would be his last run with the band.”

Bumblefoot joined GNR in 2006, replacing Buckethead. This news also comes in the wake of fellow band member DJ Ashba announcing that he will be leaving the band to focus on other endeavors.

Slipknot’s Corey Taylor Calls Axl Rose A Douchebag

Slipknot’s Corey Taylor can add Axl Rose to his list of potential enemies. During a recent appearance on the Opie Show, a caller ringed up the show to rip Taylor over an incident regarding Axl Rose in which the singer placed his testicles on the piano of the Guns N’ Roses frontman. Taylor then responded to the fan’s question:

“How dare you do that to someone like Axl?” “Knowing Axl, it’s quite easy,” he replies. “I mean, anybody who makes his fans wait for two to three hours for him to go onstage, I have no respect for.”

The fan tells Taylor, “You wish you could be Axl Rose,” which gets the singer to admit that he loves Guns N’ Roses, “but when you make your fans wait that long — and I don’t give a fuck what hard-on just said, ‘Oh, we expect it’ — well, you’re a fucking idiot then. All right? Figure it the f— out. You know why there are really no original fucking members of Guns N’ Roses left? Because he made them wait three fucking hours! You want an Appetite reunion? Tell him to fucking stop being a douchebag.”

This isn’t the first time Taylor has gone after a popular music figure. The Slipknot frontman has recently taken exception to Kanye West for claiming to the be “The greatest living rock star on the planet”

During a visit to the Music Choice studios in New York City, Taylor recorded a video message for the controversial rapper that said: “Kanye, you are not — not — the greatest living rock star of all time. The fact that you had to tell people that kind of says it all. You remind of the guy who brags about pussy. They never get as much as they brag about. Stop it. [Slaps wrist] Stop it!”

In other West rock and roll news, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins discussed being neighbors with Kanye West in a recent interview with NME. Hawkins said he rides his bike daily near the “big gnarly mansion where Kanye and his chick live I guess.”

“He lives pretty close to me, strangely enough,” he said. “Before he bought a house [in the neighborhood] he was apparently looking at it and this estate agent told me that he was showing him the house and he looks round and says, ‘Is this place secure? Can anybody get in or out?’ And then right at that time I came flying down the hill [on my bike] into the neighborhood.”

Hawkins said that West complained at first but backtracked when he realized that he was the drummer from the Foo Fighters, so he wasn’t a danger to the security of the home.

Dave Grohl also said the recent petition against West performing at Glastonbury, which attracted over 133,000 votes, will only help West and could lead to the greatest concert of all time.

“I don’t know that much about Kanye’s music but right now Kanye vs Glastonbury is about as close to that old school [Public Enemy] vibe as you’re going to get,” he added.

“I don’t know who the dude is that started the petition but I think every one of those votes is only fuelling Kanye’s fucking fire and it could be the greatest show of all time.”
