Corgan and the current Pumpkins — drummer Mike Byrne, bassist Nicole Fiorentino and guitarist Jeff Schroeder — are hopeful that “Oceania” will not only sate Pumpkins fans’ appetite for a more conventional album but also help to energize the ambitious “Teargarden…” concept. “We feel pretty confident this is going to help make the progression of ‘Teargarden’ make sense to people,” Corgan says. “If we’re able to get that sense that something is happening again and get people to rally behind us a bit, I think the next three, four years will be very interesting for the band. I think if (‘Oceania’) basically hits the same wall a lot of the other stuff has hit, we’re going to have to step back and really evaluate where we’re going, because it’s a tremendous amount of energy to put out to just feel like you’re throwing a pebble in the ocean.”

So it’s going to rock then?

  • Andrei

    It’d better be

  • King Cornell 20

So if it’s crap and we hate it, he will give up on this recent foray into bizarre Teargarden songs? One can hope….

  • Joe

I’m 100% shure it will fail even if it be good material. Music media doen’t like rock and alienated people (the majority) won’t give it a chance.

Bill is rolling the dice. If the music has it, then it will make it up over the wall. Problem is if this fails then no more Teargarden? So I guess wrestling is his no1 gig then.

For someone who once said that albums are irrelevant nowadays is now making an album. He must be desperate to be honest if he is going against what he said before about albums. I personally liked Zeitgeist, even more than Adore and Machina. Even American Gothic was good. But this Teargarden stuff is not the Pumpkins a lot of fans or even people who were once into them (back when they rocked) want to hear. Teargarden had a couple decent songs (The Fellowship, Lightning Strikes) but songs like Widow Wake My Mind and OWATA are just horrible. We all know that we need a Pumpkins “rock” record with memorable songs. I know Billy is older now and we aren’t going to hear kickass angry songs like Ode To No One, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Zero, Geek USA, etc. But Zeitgeist didn’t have much if any angst to it at all and there were still songs that rocked. Hopefully Pumpkins can deliver on Oceania and I’m looking forward to hearing it. Hopefully it won’t be a let down.

Jimmy needs to come back and replace that kid for starters. My guess Oceania will be mediocre at best.

  • Ian

If it rocks like the rest of Corgan’s music, It will sell!
