AlternativeNation.net launched in May 2009 (originally called GrungeReport.net) and covers 90’s alternative rock bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Mudhoney, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Mark Lanegan Band, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction, Hole, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, the Pixies, Garbage, Weezer, Radiohead, 311, Fuel, Filter, and Green Day. We also cover artists who have come out in the last decade and carry on the tradition of guitar based rock like Cage the Elephant, Dead Sara, Wolfmother, Jack White, Silversun Pickups, and Deftones. The one thing in common with the artists we cover is they all rock (or at least did at some point) and are under the age of 55.

AlternativeNation.net was formerly named GrungeReport.net from May 2009-June 2013. The new website domain name was paid for thanks to a generous donation from reader Joseph Thomas and another reader named Andrei Toth came up with the new name.

You can contact AlternativeNation.net owner Brett Buchanan at grungereport@yahoo.com

Below is what AlternativeNation.net looked like under our previous name of GrungeReport.net from 2009-2013.

Awesome site. From now on this will be my first port of call for all Pearl Jam news. Keep up the good work.

  • Graham H

I’ve only discovered this site and am loving it. Also fantastic to hear someone with the same opinion of Coldplay … I almost feel plagurised

  • Curtis

This site is done really well. Thanks man.

Join MAKE COLDPLAY HISTORY on Facebook!

  • Raoul Eban

I’d love to see you guys cover modern grunge bands like Fermented Sloths. They put out an amazing album called McBoneyard of Christ in 2008 and have a new album due out in May this year, got 750 listeners on last.fm without even touring… and they have their stuff on last.fm for free. Don’t those guys at least deserve more listeners?

  • PJGermany

hey, i wanted to ask you to set this link in the news but havn´t found a contact email or some..
rare pj bootlegs for fans… maybe you can post this on the front-page?

  • Kristin

@Raoul Eban I created this facebook page called “Spread the word of good newer grunge bands” http://www.facebook.com/pages/Spread-the-word-of-good-newer-grunge-bands/192998060774625 for more exposure to newer grunge bands. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ve added them to the page.

  • Albert

You guys forgot the “Incesticide” album for Nirvana, which debuted in 1992 in your “Bands” category…just letting you know.

  • Gary

AIC rocks! Jerry Cantrell fans will never die!

  • LayneCobain

Love this site, check it out all the time, go alice in chains, keep grunge alive!

  • no

Bono said his ultimate goal in music is to someday be like Coldplay. I don’t know, I’d say that means they must be pretty awesome.

  • Sulu0267

There’s a member over on the Jerry Cantrell comment section who is harassing another member. He called her a “cunt” and told her to log off. I think something needs to be done about this.

  • LayneinChains

Why are my posts not going through?

  • Jeff

This site is great, man. Love being able to just say what you want and have discussions with people who are actually familiar with the era.

  • Beth

Love the site. Don’t you consider Blind Melon a part of this movement. Maybe not grunge exactly but definately a part of the early 90’s sound. I loved Shannon Hoon’s voice but sadly he left us too.

  • Eoin

Keep up the good work. Have been waiting a long time to have this sort of website/news update on my favourite bands

    Thank you Brett

Hey Brett, or anyone interested.. I do great Photoshops. If you ever need shoped artwork for articles, weather serious, or comedic, let me know!

  • Dan

Grungereport is one of my favorite sites and I check it out daily. You guys do a great job. It’s perfect for anyone who grew up in the 90s and/or follows bands from that era.

  • JID

The report is America Centric. And the fact that grunge had expanded more than that…

  • https://www.facebook.com/UltimateKickback Jake K

Hey Brett. I’m looking forward to see the results of the name change. Your site has inspired me to start a blog and talk about rock music I enjoy and it will cover a wide selection of bands. If you want to check it out that would be cool. Maybe you might have some good advice for me moving forward with it. Thanks.
