RICHARD PATRICK MAKES A PLEA FOR SCOTT WEILAND, WANTS HIM TO GET HELP

Filter frontman Richard Patrick made a plea for former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland on his Facebook page:

We need to really start thinking about Scott. He must be in a world of pain. I’m hearing bad things.. I got this from a fan.

Fan “I saw Scott Weiland last night….worst show I have ever scene, he was beyong fucked up on stage……”

If this doesn’t scare anybody.. It should. I hope our community tries to reach out to him..

Years ago Weiland and Patrick were friends, bonding on the Family Values Tour over a decade ago. Patrick went on to perform in the short lived supergroup Army of Anyone with the DeLeo brothers from 2005-2007. Weiland has admitted to struggling with alcoholism in the last 5-6 years after a few years of being clean and sober. Patrick had his own struggles with drugs and alcohol in the past, but he has been clean and sober for nearly 11 years.

Speaking as a huge fan of Scott, he needs help. The reason I haven’t been on ‘Team Scott’ in the STP/Weiland split debacle, is that I feel like if I defend Scott’s actions and poor live performances, I’m ultimately just defending his addiction and that’s the last thing I want to do. I’m on ‘Team Clean and Sober (and Happy) Scott.’ I use sarcasm a lot when writing about it because it’s all incredibly depressing stuff. It pains me to write the things I do on here (I want to be writing positive Scott articles) but to act like Scott showing up late and performing drunk is okay for his health wouldn’t be the right thing to do, it’s a road that will end in his death. I sincerely hope if there is anybody reading this article who knows Scott that they can reach out to him and prevent the worst from happening. Obviously the choice is Scott’s and Scott’s alone (I know from being around people with similar problems), but he needs to get away from any possible enablers. The Memorial section on this website is too full, and it just pains me to even think about the worst happening. Not only is Scott one of the best singers of the past 20 years, but more importantly he has children and that takes precedence over anything else. We all want to see Scott happy and conquer his darkness once and for all.

SCOTT WEILAND FILES COUNTERSUIT AGAINST STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, SEEKING 7 MILLION DOLLARS

Go to STPfans.com to discuss Stone Temple Pilots

TMZ reports that Scott Weiland has filed a counter lawsuit against Stone Temple Pilots, he is seeking a minimum of 7 million dollars in damages and alleges that STP were secretly conspiring to fire him. Weiland says in the lawsuit, “How do you expel a man from the band that he started, named, sang lead on every song, wrote the lyrics, and was the face of for twenty years?” He also wants the judge to dissolve the STP partnership (which allows the DeLeos and Krets to keep the name), despite signing a contract agreeing to it in 1996 and 2010.

Stone Temple Pilots filed a lawsuit against Weiland on May 24th claiming that he tried to sabotage the radio play of their new single “Out of Time” featuring new frontman Chester Bennington. They also claim that Weiland is infringing on their copyrights by using STP songs in radio commercials and STP likeness ‘The Purple at the Core’ to promote his solo touring. Part of the STP partnership says that former members cannot promote themselves as former STP members or use STP marketing tools (like Purple and Core). They also claim Weiland cost the band 2 million dollars by bailing on a Core 20th Anniversary Tour to do his own solo tour, and that Weiland showing up late and his addiction problems hurt the band and their future business during their tour last year.

JOSH HOMME: 'MUSIC CAN SOUND FAKE IF YOU JUST WANT TO BE FAMOUS, BECAUSE FAME ISN'T REAL'

Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme discussed Queens of the Stone Age’s new album …Like Clockwork in a new interview with Guardian.co.uk

“By the time you get to your sixth record, some of the benefits of being in a band are grander than ever, but some of the obstacles are just massive. You deal with these lateral subjects and all that is left is the elephant in the room.” Homme’s doing that intense thing again. “Some people think I must be a jerk because I fired my best friend, but the truth is I went to his house, stared him in the face and I told him how I felt. Can you do that?”

“I wanna be fully exposed,” he says. “I paid for this myself. I took the risk myself. Risk nothing, get nothing. If you wanna be famous, then it’s OK if the music is fake, because fame isn’t real. If you just wanna take the shortest distance to Kim Kardashian’s underwear drawer, then that’s fine, too. I’m not even against it. But if you wanna make something real, and you want it to be honest, then you don’t have any choice but to take a huge risk.”

SUB POP CO-FOUNDER JONATHAN PONEMAN DISCUSSES HIS LIFE WITH PARKINSON’S DISEASE

In a recent article from the Seattle Times, Sub Pop co-founder Jonathan Poneman discusses his life with Parkinson’s disease. After over 25 years of work with Sub Pop Records, the label that he co-founded in 1988 with Bruce Pavitt, Poneman sensed that he was slowing down. After a realization in 2010 that his health was in trouble, including difficulty in writing and cooking, Poneman received a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

Poneman says that the diagnosis brought him “some measure of fear, and a ‘grave curiosity’ about what was going to happen to him, and how long it would take.” However, Poneman says that his diagnosis has also had some good effects as well. The Parkinson’s disease diagnosis has helped Poneman to fill any “spiritual emptiness” as well as to keep “an open heart and [be] mindful.” Poneman recently married, and “still goes to clubs and music festivals.”

Meanwhile, Poneman and Sub Pop will be putting on their 25th anniverary ‘Silver Jubilee’ festival in Seattle in July. The festival will feature performances by Mudhoney, J Mascis, Greg Dulli, Jack Endino, and former TAD members Tad Doyle and Gary Thorstensen. Soundgarden is also rumored to perform. The Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation will set up a booth at the festival.

DAVE NAVARRO HAS PAINTING DONE OF HIS DECEASED MOTHER WITH HIS OWN BLOOD

Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro recently had a painting done with his own blood of his deceased mother. Samppa Von Cyborg helped Dave with the painting.  Dave’s mother Connie was murdered by her boyfriend when Dave was 15 years old.  It always makes me feel for Dave whenever I read the story about his mother.  Dave has talked about working on a documentary about his mother’s death for years.

SOUNDGARDEN'S WEBSITE HACKED

Soundgarden’s official website was the victim of a friendly hacker from Indonesia today. The hacker, obviously a fan, updated the admittedly outdated splash page with flashy text, greetings to the band, that hilarious picture of Chris Cornell as seen above, and, if you hang around long enough, “Black Hole Sun”. One can enter into the actual website, but as of now all page links are down.

COURTNEY LOVE AND FRANCES BEAN COBAIN ARE 'ANGRY' AT KURT COBAIN FOR COMMITTING SUICIDE

Here are some of my notes from Howard Stern’s recent interview with Courtney Love, there was some repeat stuff that I put in the Opie and Anthony recap instead of this one:

-Courtney said she reconciled with daughter Frances Bean Cobain two months ago and they’ve started e-mailing and talking on the phone. They haven’t seen each other in 3 years but hope to see each other soon.

-Regarding Kurt Cobain’s suicide she said, “Both me and Frances are really angry at him, it wasn’t the right thing to do. He was so young, he was 27. You think you’re 90 when you’re 27, but you’re not.”

-She regrets speaking out about the Dave Grohl trying to sleep with Frances rumor, but said her source is reliable and that Dave spoke about wanting to hook up with Frances, while Frances just wanted to meet Dave out of curiosity. She said if the rumor is indeed true she’ll knock Dave out.

-Mentioned that she was initially angered by the Nirvana/Paul McCartney performance because she thought that they performed a Nirvana tracks. She said she doesn’t have any huge issue with them performing something else, but she thought that if they performed a Nirvana song with him it would have been cheesy. She mentioned that she loves Paul McCartney.

-She likes spending her own money and doesn’t like spending Nirvana money because she sees it as a cursed and dirty. She said a lawyer fucked her over on the deal to sell part of Nirvana’s catalog several years ago.

-Said it was harder to kick Valium and Xanax than heroin.

-On crowd surfing, “What was it like for Eddie Vedder, what was it like for Kurt? For me, they were fingering me.”

-Courtney said the lyric ‘Forever in debt to your prize’s advice’ in Heart Shaped Box is about Soundgarden’s former manager (and Chris Cornell’s ex-wife, Susan Silver) but that most of the song is about her pussy.

-She also said, “It would have disturbed [Kurt] to live through Limp Bizkit. Limp Bizkit was just sort of the end of it.

-Courtney will be playing new material on her summer solo tour, and plans to release new music on Prince’s label

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS LIKELY HEADED INTO THE STUDIO THIS FALL

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith discussed Red Hot Chili Peppers’ plans for their next album in a new interview with Billboard.

“We’re probably looking at getting together in September and getting on a roll and starting to write songs for the next record,” Smith tells Billboard. “We always have little ideas percolating in jams and rehearsal warm-ups and sound checks and gigs. Sometimes we bust into stuff… We just kind of play whatever, so we always have those little tidbits. But we don’t have any fully-formed songs until the four of us get in a room together. That’s when the real writing process starts. So, yeah, we’re looking at the fall.”

COURTNEY LOVE CLAIMS ERIC ERLANDSON STOLE KURT COBAIN'S GUITARS, TALKS DAVE GROHL FEUD

Courtney Love appeared on Opie and Anthony on Thursday, below are some notes from the interview.

On a Hole reunion:

“I would take Melissa back in a second but I’ll never take Eric back.”

“He took 74 guitars from my storage, 18 of them were Kurt’s they’re left handed.”

Said she had several guitars in storage under her name but it was changed to a corporate name, many of Kurt’s possessions were then auctioned off

On Dave Grohl feud:

Courtney said he ran into Pat Smear a couple weeks ago. She said Pat was working at an SST record store with a tranny she was briefly married to. The tranny told Pat that he was selling out by joining Nirvana in 1993.

Pat told Courtney that every time the drama between Courtney and Dave is brought up, Dave says ‘I have nothing to do with it, have you ever thought it might just be the lawyers?’ I couldn’t quite tell if it was Dave who told Pat the lawyers thing, or Courtney adding in that comment herself. She also said it’s not a Yoko thing, or even a dislike thing on her end at this point. It has to do with Frances not being part of the Nirvana partnership. She also said she had no idea how huge Foo Fighters were until a few months ago. She also said, “I’m so sick of lawyers, I just want to play rock.”

On if she would still be together with Kurt Cobain had he lived:

“I don’t know if we’d still be together, he might be married to a model and living on the upper west side, he might have twins, we might be in Twitter wars.

on lithium

Somebody told me they still play Bush all day? Can you believe it? And like Soundgarden, and STP.

SEAN KINNEY SAYS ALICE IN CHAINS ARE NOT TRYING TO RECAPTURE 'DIRT' WITH NEW MATERIAL

From BraveWords.com‘s new interview with Alice In Chains drummer Sean Kinney on the band’s new material:

“But it’s not like we’re trying to, ‘We need to recapture Dirt!’ You know, I already made that fucking record. And as far as I’m concerned, I love all the records we’ve done, but we lived that shit. I don’t want to relive it. Not all of us survived it. We did that a long time ago, and this is where we are now, and this is what we sound like, and this is what we are interested in. It’s really a lot easier than people probably think. We operate exactly the same, pretty much, how we always did, the same belief system, the same way of going about stuff, the same way, how we control things and how we’re presented.”

“I mean that may sound kind of stupid,” continues Sean, “but that’s our decision. We can live with that: ‘Oh, that didn’t work out the way we wanted it to.’ We can live with that. We would have a harder time living with listening to some guy who sells widgets trying to tell us what the fuck to do. And that’s a real factor in a majority, good chunk of bands that you hear out there. Take your record, and some A&R guy who learned the first… you know, he’s got a guitar in his office and he learned the first part of ‘Stairway To Heaven’ wrong, and is telling these people who are creating music, that, you know, he’s not hearing it. ‘You need another song like your last song!’ You know, that really starts getting into a gray area, and we’ve been fortunate to never have that.”

“But we make long songs. I mean, shit, we’ve been like that all along. ‘Man In A Box’, they were saying that back then. We’d say, ‘That’s the single,’ and they’re like, ‘No. That’s it, you’re going to wreck your career, that’s done.’ We’re like, whatever. Put it out, you can’t tell us what to do. And they put it out and it works. And that actually gave us a little bit more leeway, like some realization, like they should shut up. And back then, that was our first record, and you know, you can’t have a song that’s longer than a couple minutes on the radio. It’s like, I have a radio, there are tons of songs that are on there. Some of my favourite songs… So we put out ‘Rooster’; ‘You can’t do that; that song pushes the seven minute mark.’ It was on the radio for 24 years!”

JOSH HOMME TALKS HIS GUITAR SOUND AND INFLUENCES WITH ZWAN’S MATT SWEENEY

Josh Homme sits down with Zwan’s Matt Sweeney for a new episode of the series ‘Guitar Moves.’ In the interview, Homme discusses his guitar sound, his solos, and his influences. The Queens of the Stone Age frontman also praises the talents of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS PLAN TO RELEASE NEW SINGLES DIRECTLY TO FANS

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Chester Bennington discussed how Stone Temple Pilots plan to release new music in the near future in a new interview with Rolling Stone:

“When you get together and put a new piece in, there’s a whole different energy. For us the creative juices have just been flowing – we’ve been writing, we have tons of great ideas,” Bennington said. “Next week we’re going back in the studio and hammering out some more music.”

“We don’t have a label,” he said. “Everything we’re doing is on our own, so we’re just taking it one track at a time. We would love to sit down and hammer out a record, but the reality is we’re gonna make music, we’re gonna make a lot of it, and we’re gonna be in a position to release a single at a time, go out and really give people music the way they want to get it,” he said. “It is a good position to be in, and for us, all we care about is going out, making the legacy as great as it needs to be, as great as people expect it to be, and coming out with new music that lives up to that standard.”
