TRENT REZNOR DISCUSSES CREATING SCORE FOR DAVID FINCHER'S FILM THE SOCIAL NETWORK

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor was interview recently on CBC’s show Q and discussed working on the score for David Fincher’s 2010 film The Social Network:

“It ended up being a really great thing to do, not just because of what happened — the accolades and everything — but the process was fun. It was the first time I can remember that I really worked in service to something else, to someone else. It was a really respectful environment. It was challenging. It was tough.”

“It was fun to work, not necessarily as the boss, but in service to something else, collaboratively and collectively. I think that experience made me a bit more open to the idea of really knowing the true value of collaboration,” he continued.

Scott Weiland has said in a new interview, “Everybody’s been waiting for Danny’s return to the Wildabouts.” Weiland added, “So we’ll be tripling ticket prices for the Purple at the Core reunion tour this summer. As a special bonus to the shows we’ll be adding the Core deep cut ‘Plush’ to the setlist.”

Weiland has also revealed STP’s future plans, the band he claims he still fronts, “We’re also considering an STP tour where Shangri LA DEE DA is performed in its entirety, probably all in a DJ set by Doug. Take Action. Earn Points. See Impact.

New York, May 2, 2013 The Global Poverty Project (GPP), today announced the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative, a new program designed to incentivize social activism with concert tickets. Music fans can take a variety of social actions ranging from signing petitions to calling their representatives, to earn points they can use to win free tickets to concerts. Supported by an incredible, genre-breaking group of artists and a renowned committee of music industry luminaries, the avant-garde effort will engage thousands to take actions and amplify the issues related to extreme poverty, including: polio, malaria, women’s empowerment, education, and more. Global Citizen is an innovative online platform and mobile application. To participate, music fans and activists alike can register at globalcitizen.org/tickets today, where they can earn points for each action they take, from sharing a video on Facebook to signing a petition, which they can use to win free concert tickets.

The Global Citizen Tickets Initiative was the brainchild of Pearl Jam Manager, Kelly Curtis and The Global Poverty Project CEO, Hugh Evans.  Kelly Curtis commented, “I’ve always been intrigued by smart ideas that can be scaled in a big way to make it simple and rewarding for people to do good work in the world. The Global Citizen Tickets Initiative is exactly that.”

“Pearl Jam is very grateful to be part of such an innovative and generous group of artists and music business leaders participating in this project. We are particularly thankful to our manager Kelly Curtis for spearheading this thoughtful strategy. It reflects the DNA of our band and business, and expands it to respond to some of the greatest inequities and challenges facing humanity,” said Stone Gossard, of Pearl Jam.

The Global Citizen Tickets Initiative builds on the success and momentum of The Global Poverty Project’s highly acclaimed Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park in 2012,  featuring Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band of Horses and K’Naan. 60,000 people earned tickets to that show by participating in specific activism such as signing petitions and sharing information using the same digital platform and technology that will be employed for this new Initiative.

Hugh Evans, CEO of The GPP, said, “We know that musicians excite and motivate people to take action. We feel incredibly fortunate to collaborate with the world’s best musicians to support our vision of a world without extreme poverty, which is the through line of the eight biggest global challenges as defined by the United Nations in 2001 (http://bit.ly/2YFj1).”

A historic committee of music industry leaders – including managers, agents, promoters, and artists – came together to make the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative a reality. Their goal was to help create a system that leveled the playing field for access to tickets to live entertainment, making it possible to earn points by doing good works for a chance to win tickets as an alternative to purchasing them.

The Global Citizen Tickets Initiative Committee members include: Kelly Curtis, Pearl Jam Manager; Michele Anthony, Chairwoman of the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative, 7H Entertainment; Mark Campana, Live Nation; Judy McGrath; Elliot Groffman, Carroll, Guido & Groffman, LLP; Sara Newkirk, WME Entertainment; Jane Rosenthal, Tribeca Film Festival; Marsha Vlasic, ICM Partners; Michele Bernstein, WME Entertainment; Marc Geiger, WME Entertainment; Rob Light, CAA Entertainment; Brian Murphy, Goldenvoice; Aaron D. Rosenberg ; John Silva, Sam Music; Nicole Vandenberg, Vandenberg Communications; Danny Rogers, Lunatic Entertainment; Hugh Evans, and Jane Atkinson from Global Poverty Project; Ryan Gall, The Riot House and co-founder of Global Citizen.

“Music is such a powerful platform for bringing people together and creating change. Our committee has and will continue to connect with managers and artists to support this Initiative which builds on the impressive work that started at last year’s Global Citizen Festival,” said Chairwoman of the Global Citizen Tickets Campaign, Michele Anthony.

A REUNION OF EPIC PROPORTIONS: DRUMMER DANNY THOMPSON IS BACK WITH SCOTT WEILAND'S SOLO BAND

It’s a reunion of epic proportions!  Ex-drummer Danny Thompson has rejoined Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts!  Thompson quit Weiland’s solo band on April 9th, stating that “It’s a matter of self-worth.”  He added that he left because of “the darkness” surrounding Weiland and the band.  But have no fears Weiland and the Wildabouts fans, the classic lineup is together again after a long month away.  Thompson posted the reunion announcement yesterday on his Facebook:

“I recently jumped the gun leaving Scott Weiland and the Wild About’s.  As a lot of you know being in a band is like being in a relationship but instead of dealing with 1 person you deal with many.  On occasion you argue and say or do things you don’t mean in the heat of the moment just like you would in any family situation.  I’ve recently sorted out some things with the guy’s and happy to say I’m back with the band.  I miss and love those guy’s and look forward to playing and creating music again with Scott and the boy’s.”

Weiland and the Wildabouts will continue their trainwreck ‘Purple at the Core’ no$talgia tour later this month with a series of west coast dates.  The tour will be a reunion of the classic ‘Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts’ lineup that the band’s millions…and millions of fans have grown to know and love.  Perhaps this reunion gives hope that the DeLeo brothers and Eric Kretz will have a change of heart and take back Scott?

TODAY IS GRUNGEREPORT.NET'S 4-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

GrungeReport.net opened 4 years ago today! I’d like to thank all of the staff and readers that have made the success of the site possible. Contrary to the ‘the site is getting worse’ crowd traffic has been as strong as ever this year. I do feel the trolls have been slacking though, not as many laughs from the comments section recently. I’m sure posting a picture of myself in this article will solve that problem. Also, as I have been talking about for a few months now, GrungeReport.net will be changing names to AlternativeNation.net soon. The site name change/move has been taking more time than I wanted because we are moving/copying all of the stories on GrungeReport.net to AlternativeNation.net. Something that’s taken a lot of time is moving the comments, there’s been an error in the coding we are working on fixing.

The current plan is to change the name to AlternativeNation.net on June 1st. If we miss this date you have permission to call the name change ‘Alternative Nation Democracy.” We will cover some additional bands, I’m still not sure on all of them but it’ll be focused on 90’s alternative rock bands and bands that have carried on that same spirit (my apologies to Fun. fans, your favorite band will not be covered). Radiohead, Weezer, Green Day, and Cage the Elephant are among the additional bands we’ll be covering to help supplement the bands we already focus on. We won’t be posting every single tidbit/setlist for the additional bands, it’ll be more focused on major news (tour announcements/new albums/juicy interviews). My hope is that covering more bands means less stories about how large Billy Corgan’s morning shit was and stuff like that.  I also know that covering Weezer and Green Day will catch us some slack, but they are both bands that broke through commercially in 1994. We’ll also rename the Seattle Bands news section ‘Grunge Report.’ If anybody has any suggestions regarding who you’d like to see us cover, let me know, when it comes to veteran bands and young bands. I’m also working on another project with somebody that will tie into AlternativeNation.net, the idea is in its formative stages but it is very exciting.

We’re looking for more writers as well. You can e-mail me (grungereport @yahoo.com) or Magic Mike Mazzarone (mjmazzarone @yahoo.com) to inquire, please send along a sample of your writing skills. I can get busy so e-mailing Magic Mike is a good idea especially if I don’t get back to you within a day or two.
