DAVE GROHL SAYS HE HAS 50 SONG IDEAS FOR NEXT FOO FIGHTERS ALBUM

Dave Grohl discussed Foo Fighters’ next album in a new interview with the BBC, “We decided to go on hiatus, which Pat Smear calls “I hate us.’ We’re backing off a little bit and getting ready to write the next record. It’s funny in the Sound City the debate of analog vs. digital and the conversation when it turns to technology. People think I’m Amish or something like that, that I would never use a computer. But my iPhone right now is filled with the next Foo Fighters record because every time I come up with an idea, I hit record on this thing and just go bam. There’s fifty songs in my phone right now that I’m dying to record with the band. So our process is usually like, let’s get in and get it ready and once we feel like it’s good then we’ll come out and let everybody hear it. We have a really definite plan of what we want to do and when we want to do it.”

CHRIS CORNELL ON SOUNDGARDEN BREAKING UP DURING THEIR PRIME: “WE NEVER SUCKED”

In a new interview with StarTribune.com, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell discussed the band’s 1997 breakup. He attributed it to there being too many people involved in Soundgarden’s career, “We broke down communicatively, because we had all these other people peripherally involved in the band,” he said. “Decisions were made that we didn’t all agree on, or even know about. That created tension.”

Cornell also discussed the band ending their initial run by going out on top, “I actually think we went out on a creative high. There was a certain amount of relief when we did stop playing together that we didn’t mess things up creatively. We never sucked.”

DAVE GROHL REVEALS HOW KURT COBAIN’S DEATH CHANGED HIS OUTLOOK ON LIFE

Dave Grohl discussed his late Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain in a new interview with the BBC, “To be honest, When Kurt died I realized that every day that you have should be celebrated in some way. We’re so lucky to have what we have, no matter whether it’s your worst day or the greatest day of your life, just to be alive and experience something like this [looks around Utah, where the interview is taking place]. So I really try to take advantage of it, I mean because I can e-mail Tom Petty and say ‘hey lets jam,’ or because I can tell everyone hey I’m not doing press today because I’m going to take my daughter inner tubing over there, why not.”

EXCITING HAPPY TAIL!!!
Remember ORPHEUS, the Hermaphroditic Pitbull mix Eldad rescued for us from Compton? Well, I just got back from bringing him to his FOREVER HOME !!!
Mom is a past Bill Foundation adopter and great supporter of us. There’s nothing we LOVE more than when past adopters come back for a 2nd, 3rd OR 4th dog ♥♥♥
And Dad is Scott Weiland, the frontman for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS 🙂

They came to adoptions last Sunday and it was love at first sight with Orpheus. Orpheus fell madly in love with them as well and was instantly showing off his snuggly side.

Congrats Orpheus! We couldn’t have asked for a better family for you!

CHRIS CORNELL DISCUSSES HOW HE KEEPS HIS VOICE IN SHAPE

In a recent interview with Pandora, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell discussed how he keeps his voice in shape, “I read the Joe Cocker interview and they asked him if he ever had voice problems, and he said yeah when he doesn’t sing, like if he had six months off or a year off. That’s the problem I have, if I’m not in it everyday then there’s sort of an arc, like rehearsals help and my voice has to warm up, but it’s a muscle. Some of it’s taking care of it and some of it is abusing it I think.”

MARK LANEGAN CONFIRMED FOR NEW QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE ALBUM

Mark Lanegan has been confirmed to sing on the upcoming Queens of the Stone Age album. The official Facebook and Twitter sites for Queens of the Stone Age posted this yesterday:

Lanegan came by. He didn’t say much, but he sang good.
Troy Van Leeuwen said to Dean Fertita as overheard by Mikey Shoes

Previously, Lanegan had been rumored to have heard several songs from the upcoming Queens of the Stone album and written lyrics for the album. With the confirmation of Lanegan, the new album will feature all members of the original Songs for the Deaf lineup, which included Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri, Dave Grohl, as well as Mark Lanegan.

DAVE GROHL SAYS NIRVANA & PAUL MCCARTNEY COLLABORATION WAS ‘SPONTANEOUS,’ TALKS CREATIVE PROCESS

Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl discussed Nirvana’s collaboration with Paul McCartney and its significance in the Sound City film in a new interview with Rolling Stone:

“Part of every discussion with the musicians was about the human element of making music. Feel, imperfection, emotion, the conversation as a player, conversation between players, craft. All of those things we talk about in the film, but I thought it would make those things more clear if we demonstrated them. If you’re talking about spontaneity and connecting in a moment, the McCartney/Nirvana segment makes perfect sense. I wouldn’t even have to say that, you just watch it and think, Wow, they just walked into a room together and made something explosive out of nothing because of the energy in the room. It could take years to explain how or why that happens, but if you see it, those seven minutes make perfect sense.”

“It was nuts [being in the studio with Paul McCartney]. The funny thing about musicians from that generation is that they’re pioneers. The reason why they changed the world is that they were doing something that no one else was doing, and they weren’t scared to do it. So when you play with Roger Waters or John Paul Jones or Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger, they’re not afraid to get weird. It’s our generation that gets safe with music. A lot of people from my generation of music are so focused on playing things correctly or to perfection that they’re stuck in that safe place. They’re not willing to, like, fuckin’ get rad. And Paul definitely is. That day was really funny, because honestly, Krist [Novoselic] and Pat [Smear] had never met Paul before and they were very nervous – they were terrified. The Beatles meant the same thing to all of us. I mean, without the Beatles we wouldn’t be who we are. So when we started playing for the first two hours, maybe, we were so in awe of Paul that we forgot about Nirvana. It took a few hours before I realized, wait a minute . . . we haven’t done this in maybe 20 years, Krist and Pat and I – wow, how cool. And fuckin’ Paul is here, too.”

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS WERE NOT BOOKED FOR COACHELLA UNTIL AN HOUR BEFORE LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT

Red Hot Chili Peppers manager Cliff Burnstein has told Rolling Stone that the Chili Peppers didn’t agree to headline Coachella until an hour before the announcement last night. Burnstein told Rolling Stone, “We’ve been in talks for months. It goes down to the wire, it’s a negotiation.” He also said that he didn’t believe The Rolling Stones were in Coachella’s price range, with tickets to their December shows averaging 520 dollars while Coachella tickets averaged 385 dollars last year. Burnstein added that he thinks 2013 is the right time for the Chili Peppers to headline their first Coachella since 2007, “We figured out if they have 180,000 people over the two weekends, there’s a good chance that 10 percent or less would’ve actually seen the Chili Peppers at a previous Coachella. It seemed like it would actually be, in many ways, a very fresh thing.”

WATCH SOUNDGARDEN’S MUSIC VIDEO FOR “BY CROOKED STEPS”

UPDATE FROM BRETT: Soundgarden’s Dave Grohl directed music video “By Crooked Steps” leaked last night. The video depicted the band riding segways and showing up at a bar to stop a techno show and play live. The band were then chased down by cops on their segways and arrested by deadmau5. The video was pulled, and I received a legal e-mail along with a request from a Soundgarden representative to pull it . Seems pretty silly, a music video is a promotional tool for an album and essentially a commercial. So anyways, here’s a video of Gob Bluth struggling to ride his segway on Arrested Development instead.

COURTNEY LOVE CLAIMS GAVIN ROSSDALE CONTROLS GWEN STEFANI’S CAREER

ABC recently did a lengthy piece on Courtney Love, and in part of the profile, she talks about her old relationship with Gavin Rossdale and how he supposedly controls wife Gwen Stefani’s career. Here is the excerpt:

“Funny thing, you know, I would’ve never really bet on Gwen,” she said. “Not back in the day.” Love attributed Stefani’s success — her “f**king empire” of a clothing line, L.A.M.B. — to her husband Gavin Rossdale, whom Love said she dated before he got together with Stefani.

“His band never did that well but he is very, very smart,” she said. “He runs the Gwen show, that’s him. He runs the clothing line, he f**king built that up, he has nothing else to do.”

She smiled, shuffling through her purse for a lighter, remembering her relationship with Rossdale. “He was so good looking, but I kind of envisioned that me and Gavin Rossdale would end up on the French Riviera, like, taking tennis lessons and f**king our respective polo teachers.”

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS AND HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS TO PERFORM AT COACHELLA

The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dinosaur Jr. are set to perform on Sunday April 14th and Sunday April 21st at Coachella.  Puscifer will perform on Saturday April 13th and Saturday April 20th, while Trent Reznor’s How To Destroy Angels will perform on Friday April 12th and Friday April 19th.

Overall pretty weak lineup, but with some good acts mixed in on the undercard.  Usually I’m not into most Coachella headliners, but I at least get their commercial appeal.  Here, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are the only real headliner, but with the band already having performed two shows in Los Angeles last year makes them less of a get as a headliner.  While the Stone Roses and Blur are good bands, they are more subheadliner material.  I’m not a fan of Phoenix and they couldn’t headline a Los Angeles KROQ festival let alone Coachella.

The only time I went to Coachella was in 2009 to see Paul McCartney, which was unbelievable.
