GRUNGEREPORT.NET REVIEW OF SOUNDGARDEN’S SHOW LAST NIGHT IN LOS ANGELES

I attended my second Soundgarden show last night in Los Angeles at the intimate Henry Fonda Theatre. I arrived at the venue a little after 6PM last night and the line was very long, but fortunately GrungeReport.net reader JT spotted me and let me in! After I got in a little after 7PM I found my spot 2nd row dead center. Unfortunately as I tried to turn on my camera it wasn’t working, so I was forced to use my iPhone for photos (my photos are at the bottom of the story). Dave Grohl was spotted in the crowd near the back of the venue.

Soundgarden went on just after 9PM and kicked off the show with four old songs in Jesus Christ Pose/Flower/Outshined/Spoonman. Attrition came after and seemed to fit in very well, it came off great live, even better than the studio version. By Crooked Steps was enjoyable live too, but I wasn’t too big on Taree/Non-State Actor. The crowd was pretty dead during these two songs and they didn’t seem to help the pace of the show. Eyelid’s Mouth was okay live. A few times throughout the show Chris talked about performing for industry crowds in LA in the past, and told the people in seats to stop sitting down and stand up. The guys sung Happy Birthday to Matt, at first Chris had the audience hold back because he said we couldn’t pick a key. The show really picked up at this point, Been Away Too Long comes off really well live. It’s the most energetic new song live, it got a very good crowd reaction, the best of the new songs yet at this point.

Playing Burden In My Hand/A Thousand Days Before back to back worked really well and is something the band should do on their 2013 tour, the songs just fit together and A Thousand Days Before got the best reaction of any of the new songs and definitely came off the best live. Rusty Cage was the highlight of the night, one of the few times the crowd was really moving a lot. I was happy to see Bones of Birds debuted live, I’d rank it above Taree/Non-State Actor/Eyelid’s Mouth but below A Thousand Days Before and Been Away Too Long when it comes to how it came off live. It definitely should be played over the former three if the setlist is ever narrowed when it comes to new songs. Rowing was fun live as well, but the backing tracks just come off as odd at a Soundgarden show, just have Matt sing the chorus when Chris can’t even if it doesn’t sound great.

Incessant Mace kicked off the encore and was fantastic, one of the most inspired performances of the night. Slaves and Bulldozers was a great closer. At the end of the show Chris and Kim trolled the audience by making loud noises with their guitars and amps. Overall this was a solid show, but it wasn’t even close to the same energy level as the Forum show in July 2011. My Dad was at the show as well, I haven’t been to a concert with him in 3 years.  He said he enjoyed parts of the show but preferred Pearl Jam’s 2003 Irvine show and Stone Temple Pilots’ 2008 Hollywood Bowl show big time over this show.  Matt and Ben seemed to be having the most fun out of the members of the band.

Dinosaur Jr. Guitarist J Mascis is one name of a long line of guest stars for the next season of the IFC sketch comedy show Portlandia. Mascis isn’t the first musician to star on the show – former Sleater-Kinney memeber Corin Tucker, The Shin’s Jame Mercer & The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy teamed up as “Echo Echo” – a fictional indie band. Mascis isn’t the first 90’s rock star to make a cameo on the show either as Eddie Vedder also guest starred last season.

Other big names who are set to appear on Portlandia include: Roseanne Barr, Patton Oswalt, Juliette Lewis, George Wendt, Rose Byrne, Bill Hader, Bobby Moyniham, Jim Gaffigan, Matt Berry, Matt Lucas and Martina Navratilova

MAGIC MIKE MAZZARONE MAKES HIS TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO GRUNGEREPORT.NET

Ladies and gentlemen it has been nearly a month since I have last posted on GrungeReport.net   The prolonged absence, as you know was mainly due to the storm.  But I was also sidelined for an extra week prior due to a nasty virus on my computer.  It may or may not have been from a porn site.  I’m a regular visitor of TNAFlix, RedTube, and PornHub.

One of the biggest tragedies of Hurricane Sandy was my absence from GrungeReport.net, I have sorely missed posting the news on here more than anything but I have to hand it to Brett and the fellow staff on here for keeping things running smoothly during the absence of your head reporter.  I have lots of Billy Corgan interviews and photos to catch up on, that and PornHub should make for a HurriKinky weekend.

To mark my return, I have written a poem, my own rendition of “Been Away Too Long.”  It’s quite fitting, since I’ve been away too long.

Hey, Taylor Momsen knows me
Taylor Momsen saves me
Taylor Momsen loves or hates me
But it’s fate
I only ever really wanted to have sex with Taylor Momsen
I’ve been away for too long
No I never really wanted to stay
I have a really big shlong

PERRY FARRELL SAYS NEXT JANE’S ADDICITON ALBUM WILL BE BAND’S GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT

Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell has told Billboard that Jane’s Addiction’s currently in the works fifth studio album could be the band’s greatest achievement.

“The next album is going to be something that the world has never experienced,” he tells Billboard, “I’m building it simultaneously with the live show in mind and it’s just going to be out of sight!”

Farrell also said Jane’s Addiction’s live shows could be 2 and a half hour events, “It’s going to be theatrical and we’re going to take it to another level. I want to really give you a new experience. I want you to feel like you’ve never seen it or experienced anything like it.”

MAROON 5’S ADAM LEVINE SAYS HE’D DRUM FOR PEARL JAM

Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine recognized the crunch that Matt Cameron must be in touring with Soundgarden and trying to complete an album with Pearl Jam. Therefore, he kindly offered his services on Twitter:

“If Pearl Jam needs a temp drummer while Matt Cameron tours with Soundgarden, I’ve been practicing to your records since I was 11. I’m READY.”

Followers must have thought it was in jest, but Levine wasn’t kidding around.  “I’m dead serious. I’m DEAD serious,” he tweeted.

Good to know Pearl Jam has options! Source
