Are you writing together?
Yeah. There’s individual compositions, certainly. Chris has done very well over the years writing solo compositions, where he’s writing the music and lyrics. He brings it to the band, and we twist it around and add our flavor to it. But there’s also collaborative songs on this. I think probably one of the earliest… I can’t really speculate, but if things are going the way we’ve been talking, one of the earliest songs we release will be a collaboration where we all wrote. It came about out of an idea of Matt’s. We all contributed some music, Chris came up with the lyrics afterwards. It’s funny you should bring up that ambient, psychedelic stuff. That goes back to the conversation about the Beatles, where I liked the heavy and fast, and that sort of psychedelic element, that dark psychedelia is certainly present in some of the early records of Boris, and Sunn O))), and bands like Om. You get the heavy, you get the trippy. It’s excellent.
Soundgarden return to the road tonight 2 months after ending their summer tour. The band will be playing two shows this week in the United States. If you attend either of these shows, please e-mail the setlist/photos/your review to grungereport @yahoo.com

With financial and legal issues settled, at least momentarily, the band started writing together, picking up where it left off with Down on the Upside.
“We’re definitely putting on the shoes that fit, the four of us,” Thayil says. “Over the past decade or so I’ve certainly gone in the direction of more heavy, and also freer — elements of chaos of wildness I’ve always liked in music. It’s amazing I never outgrew it, more so now than when I was in college or high school, more so now than in Soundgarden’s heyday.”
Soundgarden saved its back catalog — reissues, unreleased tracks, compilations — from extinction. The band’s eager to release all of it, and a new album is due sometime soon.
“We definitely want to get these things out there. We will,” Thayil says. “At first we were probably a little eager — ‘We’ll get this stuff out in five years!’ I imagine it’ll take a little bit longer, ’cause now we’re making new records.”
From Dallas Observer‘s new interview with Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil:
On the new album you’re working on now, are you contributing more?
Yeah, I’m definitely contributing more. With guitar bands, fans want to hear the guitarist’s ideas as a song. But the good thing about Soundgarden is that everybody in the band writes songs on guitar. The drummer Matt writes songs on guitar. He’s not introducing songs on drums or piano or anything. Even our bass player Ben: As opposed to introducing songs on bass, he primarily introduces songs on guitar. So I’m the guy that has to learn everybody’s guitar nuances and styles and play their songs. So regardless of whether it’s me or the other guys in the band, we are a guitar-based band. I am contributing more, but I think the good news is that everybody is contributing.
This is a message written by Scott Weiland inside of his new Christmas album The Most Wonderful Time of The Year (and was transcribed by CMCracker on the BelowEmpty.com forums):
To all friends family and lovers near and far and far and wide. i hope this music, a labor of love from all of “us”…finds you and touches your heart and soul. For that was the purpose of it. Not just these fabolous musicians but moreover, it was the absolute intent on the original writers, players, and legendary icons from days long gone. I have to pause and wonder…whether it be Frank, Bing, or Nat King Cole himself. Are these times really so different? A lot of these tunes were written during times of strife within our country and in fact around the world. whether it be the depression or wartime when these xmas messages were sent out to men and women of our armed services in a foxhole or hospital. Just as today those brave souls who dare to give it all. “all ears” would have a listen and have, if just for a few moments, the warm thoughts of hope and family and sometimes power of these spiritually inspired songs of being together again…under the mistletoe or around the family tree could be the touch of hope and faith that being from whatever faith creed or family. we, you all of us could make it back for xmas.
PS these songs are not meant to ever raise humanity- these songs are meant as a testament to humanity everywhere and are in no way meant to cause division discourse but only imagine the holy spirit that is personal, yet universal to us all. And to all a good night

Hole have pulled out of the 2012 Soundwave Festival after Courtney Love found out they would open for Limp Bizkit. Other notable bands on the bill included System of a Down and Slipknot.
Courtney Love tweeted:
“What bloody flight of crazed fancy made you think we’d open for Limp Bizkit dude? No offence, that’s nuts.”
Festival promoter AJ Maddah tweeted:
“Like we were going to ask her [Courtney Love] permission every time we book a band. No point taking her back, only for her to cancel later, or turn up and act like a rotten twat to other artists and fans. I am really mad about this. I was given so many assurances that this would not happen when I took the booking.”
