Thanks to Paul K for letting me know about this:
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was declared a God-like genius at tonight’s Shockwave NME awards and dedicated the prize to former Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain.
NME editor Krissi Murison described Grohl, the first non-Brit to win the award, as “one of the most important rock stars alive today” before introducing Who frontman Roger Daltrey to hand over the award at the event at the Brixton Academy in south London.
Grohl, who found fame as the drummer in Nirvana, told the crowd he first came to the venue 20 years ago to watch the Pixies.
He said: “I hoped that one day I could be in a band that was big enough to f***ing play the Brixton Academy.”
Paying tribute to Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994, he said: “This one’s for Kurt, thank you very much” before joining Daltrey on stage to kick off his set.
Apparently Kurt Cobain was aware of Miley Cyrus’ existence. Thanks to Paul K and Terri for letting me know about this.

Billy Ray Cyrus shunned the spotlight when his friend Kurt Cobain died – because it made him realize he was too caught up in his own fame.
Country star Cyrus and the rocker became friends after a chance meeting and they went on to bond over their young daughters, Miley and Frances Bean, who were both born in 1992.
Cyrus tells GQ magazine, “That’s what we talked about, that we each had a little girl.”
The Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker admits he was devastated to hear the news when Cobain died in 1994 from a gunshot wound to the head in an apparent suicide.
He cancelled a planned tour and retreated out of the spotlight to spend time with his family and mourn his friend – and Cobain’s death proved a turning point for Cyrus.
He tells GQ magazine, “There comes a point where you just got to step back. That’s how I ended up out here (at his Tennessee home). I stepped back. I was supposed to go and do another world tour. I said no. I cancelled my tour. Kurt Cobain had just died, and that really had an impact on me.
“He was one of those guys that became a friend to me that I never expected.”

Courtney Love has reportedly revealed that she would love to move to England permanently.
The former Hole rocker recently received the title of ‘Non Executive Officer for Rock ‘n’ Roll’ from The Conservative Association at Oxford University (OUCA). She told students that she had grown fond of the country years ago while touring with her band.
“She said she wanted to launch a new life as a country squire. Her exact words to me were: ‘I want to find a new husband,’ ” OUCA president-elect Joe Cooke told Q magazine.
“She thought we were the best place to find one.”
Cooke added: “She led the national anthem standing on the table with a toast to the queen before singing ‘Wonderwall’ with the Union Jack draped over her.”
Love has previously claimed that she belongs in the country, saying: “I am an Anglophile and love England so much. I used to live there and always consider myself half English.”

via Salk Lake City News:
“The original bassist for Alice In Chains was arrested Thursday in Salt Lake City for investigation of drug possession and on an outstanding warrant from 2003 for failing to show up for sentencing on a separate drug-related conviction.
Mike Starr, 44, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
The alternative rocker and reality TV personality was arrested Thursday by Salt Lake police. Starr was the passenger in a van that was pulled over on a routine traffic violation near 1200 S. State about 12:30 a.m., said Salt Lake police detective Dennis McGowan
The vehicle was driven by Travis Meeks of the rock band Days of the New. He was issued a citation for driving on a suspended license and then released.
Starr, who was sitting in the passenger seat, told the officer, “Hey officer, have you heard of Alice in Chains? I used to be the bass guitarist for them. We are down here in Utah, me and Travis, putting together a new band,” a Salt Lake police report states.
According to jail documents, Starr was illegally in possession of prescription medication, including the painkiller Opana, also known as oxymorphone, and alprazalam pills, used to treat anxiety and panic attacks.
In addition, the officer found Starr had a warrant out for his arrest. According to Utah court records, Starr was convicted in 3rd District Court in 2003 of felony drug possession. But a bench warrant was issued on Aug. 25, 2003 when he failed to appear for sentencing.”
Smashing Pumpkins bassist Nicole Fiorentino did a discussion with fans on Facebook last night, here are some things she mentioned regarding new material:
dulio: finishihg up 2 [smashing pumpkins songs] this week that should be out soon
benjamin: i was co-writer in several of the bands ive played with in the past. i write my own bass parts in SP and have progressively been contributing more and more as time passes.
jonathan: recorded vocals last month for the 2 songs that are going to be released very soon. billy did his vocals for those songs today. vocals are sounding great
ryan: i have panned the bass before in a recording but not with sp. ive been experimenting a lot more with pedals and such, since billy’s such a pedal freak!
Doesn’t look like he lip syncs to me! Funny moment, the shows seems to be going well so far on this tour.

“Q : I’m assuming that at some point in the future there will be another Gutter Twins album.

I don’t know when it will be, Mark is making a solo record now and Mark hasn’t made a solo record in a really long time and I think me just as a fan of his I want to hear his thing, and I’ve heard a little bit of what he’s working on and it’s fucking amazing! That dude’s got the Midas touch.”
Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins has put together a compilation of rare Queen songs with Brian May and Roger Taylor.
‘Deep Cuts Volume One 1973-1976’ is not a greatest hits record. Moreso, it is a collection of 14 songs Queen fans discovered on their early albums.
Hawkins is a massive Queen fan. At one stage, Hawkins, Dave Grohl and Roger Taylor from Queen once played ‘We Will Rock You’ together on VH1. Taylor and Brian May also guest starred on the Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders album last year.
Queen ‘Deep Cuts’ will accompany the first five remastered Queen reissues coming through new label Universal in March. Those albums are ‘Queen’, ‘Queen II’, Sheer Heart Attack’, ‘A Night At The Opera’ and ‘A Day At The Races’
The tracklisting is:
Stone Cold Crazy
My Fairy King
I’m In Love With My Car
Keep Yourself Alive
The Millionaire Waltz
Flick of the Wrist
Lily Of The Valley
The March of the Black Queen
In The Lap of the Gods … Revisited
