Grunge Report Radio is back after a few weeks off. On the latest episode Brett and Duncan talk about the reunion of the surviving members of Nirvana, what is ahead for Grunge in 2011, and more.
PJPixie posted this on the PearlJam.com forums regarding the reunion of surviving Nirvana members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and (live member) Pat Smear at last night’s Foo Fighters show, where Nirvana (or what’s left of it) reunited to play “Marigold.”
I was there. Sitting on the stage for this right in front of the empty mic stand center stage. An unreal moment.

This is a Call
As far as pictures/video, they were super duper strict. We all went thru metal detectors to get in so nobody had ANY sort of recording devices on them.
However, the bar was filled with movie camera’s etc, they are/were filming a movie documenting the making of this latest record.
I had an interesting conversation with Dave after the show
We talked about the ‘considered’ title of the new record “back and forth”…….he said he wasn’t sure if that would be the name or not “could be something else” and of course he made a goofy face.
He said they recorded this record in his GARAGE, not his home studio and gave crazy details about the process they used to record, pretty effing amazing and I can’t wait to hear it.
It was kind of a strange moment. His mom was sitting down right next to us and there were boom mic’s and cameras all over the place recording everything.
I know the headline may seem a tad bit sensationalistic, but this is as much of a Nirvana reunion as there can ever be.
For the first time since 1997 3/4 of Nirvana’s In Utero touring lineup has reunited on stage. Krist Novoselic came out at the Foo Fighters’ secret show last night at Paladinos in Tarzana, California, joining former Nirvana bandmate Dave Grohl and former Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear who is also a current member of Foo Fighters.
What’s left of Nirvana played “Marigold” the one Nirvana song which featured Dave Grohl on lead vocals. This is the first time the surviving members of Nirvana have played a Nirvana song on stage since Kurt Cobain’s 1994 suicide. Would have been cool if they had gotten Bleach era drummer Chad Channing to play drums.
Novoselic makes a guest appearance on the Foo Fighters’ upcoming album set for release in the spring on the track “I Should Have Known.”
Click here to listen to the new R.E.M. song “It Happened Today” featuring Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder. Vedder doesn’t sing initially but as the song goes on you hear more of him. Collapse Into Now will be released on March 8, 2011.
Billy Corgan posted these messages on his official Facebook yesterday:
FROM Nicole Cooper: Public forums like this rarely have a good vibe. Some people seem to have a pathological need to put others down or act negatively. It’s a shame as people like me would like to get that type of insight into your process.
Billy Corgan: it will change, evolve to a positive or it will die. your call. i can be su…nshine and light and positive shadow but i am not a lone soldier.
you got to want it bad enough to create the space to make the circle sacred and then the best of all of us would come forward. if this site is just a reflection of the culture as a whole then it’s just as worthless as the culture it is mirroring. i long for the day i can be me as i am and not as i am expected to be, or… as i appear to be in an over-simplified rear view mirror.
Yes, this is probably the most pointless story in GrungeReport.net history, but hey it’s Christmas time and there isn’t much news out there.

British papers are excited about the strange love brewing between Courtney Love and socialite Henry Allsopp, the godson of Camilla Parker Bowles and the brother of reputable TV personality Kirstie Allsopp. Apparently, Love’s been living in his home and tweeting photos of herself wearing tweed and reading Julian Fellowes’s Snobs while Allsopp’s “helping her through the last of her addictions.” Those around Allsop “fear the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain could be on her way to landing a title.” But, really, she just needs the “British Socialite” chapter for her inevitable biopic.
Velvet Revolver have found someone to take over lead singing duties, according to drummer Matt Sorum.
The band have been searching for a singer since Scott Weiland returned to Stone Temple Pilots in 2008. However, Sorum said that they cannot reveal the identity of the replacement yet.
He told The Pulse of Radio: “We can’t make the announcement yet because we’re ‘dating’, you know. We haven’t consummated the relationship, we haven’t sat down this gentleman and made the agreement together.”
Sorum also apologized to fans who are frustrated with the ongoing delay of new material. He added: “I know it’s been like this long-winded, ‘Oh, Velvet Revolver this, Velvet Revolver that’.
“We’re tired of it, believe me. But we don’t have the ability to just jump out there with any singer. We can’t do it.”
Sorum added that the potential new singer was a “known guy” who was “younger and stronger.”
I previously reported a fan account on here stating that Alice In Chains planned February tour was canceled while just the announced Thackerville show had been postponed to August but a new fan account from mjgfire on the AliceInChains.com forum states that the tour has merely been POSTPONED:
I too am in the same boat as some of you folks. My wife and I love AIC and we planned on seeing them since it was an accustic show. This is a HUGE dissappointment. We saw them in Vegas, but atleast we could make a trip out of it unlike going to Thackerville OK population 400!! I only found out last night(sunday) when the casino called me and told me “the band postponed their tour”. so i thought it was a scam. sure enough she said the gig was rescheduled for august and i could keep my tickets or get a refund.
Billy Corgan posted these messages on his official Facebook yesterday:
FROM Marcoffeeart Aldana: I mean dont get me wrong.. I love the way you are and inspire us all but for real I’m missing ‘real’ peoples updates.
Billy Corgan: what does this mean? if i talk serious i get shit. so i might as well tell some jokes and post up some jams. no more serious here. only big laffs
FROM Piergustavo de Francesco: will you ever make a reunion with james, darcy and jimmy?
Billy Corgan: oh yes! we are all gonna have a unicorn party and ride over the rainbow!! see you there!!! bring lucky charms for the party!!!!!
FROM Joe Mullin: If you had not reformed SP, looking back, which album would you choose as your favorite era?
Billy Corgan: Ten. Or Nevermind.
i don’t give a wee willy flying fuck if the internet culture is negative. i refuse to bow to that God. i read a CNN piece today about Lady GaGa having to postpone some shows due to messed up weather and the comments were 75pct horribly negative. success means nothing, in fact it only invites hatred now. all are not cre…ated equal in talent. and she is talented. and smart.

This poll won’t be open for too long since winners will be announced soon.
Interstate Love Song
I’m a few days late on this news, but producer Kerry Brown posted this on his blog on December 15th:
Wow, It has been an insane week at Coldwater Studio and it’s only Wednesday night! On Monday and Tuesday The Smashing Pumpkins came in to finish recording the next two Teargarden by Kaleidyscope songs. Billy, Nicole and Mike recorded backing vocals that sound amazing. I have never heard big backing vocals on a Smashing Pumpkins song, it is a really cool new direction for the band. I would like to tell you what songs we recorded but then Billy would have to kill me and I am not yet ready to meet my maker.
Side Note: I have been in the recording studio for almost every SP record and never have I seen such positive band chemistry. It is very refreshing.
Still no reason yet for the cancellation, but PaperFlowers posted this on the AliceInChains.com forum:
I got an email earlier today from the casino saying that tickets that were purchased for the February show will definitely be honored for August 13th, including both Will Call and if you have the tickets already.
wadiyano posted this on the official AliceInChains.com forum:
(February 5, 2011 show in Thackerville, Oklahoma at Winstar Casino) Show is canceled, rescheduled for August 13th Winstar just called and asked if i wanted a refund or keep tickets
She also said “whole tour was canceled” so must be more dates to come. Show in Aug is on a Sat and only 5hr drive for me so I kept my tix. Feel bad for those who have nonrefundable plane tix though
